    Winschelhaus Dog Training

    Winschelhaus Dog Training

    (1 review)

There are undoubtedly dog breeds that benefit from Winshelhaus' severe system of training, but the…read moremore sensitive and intelligent breeds - such as Australian Shepherds - are not among them. The first alarm was sounded while being signed up on day one. Steve has his clients sign multiple places to assure payment - (though all payment is right up front - and to impress the fact of 'no refunds' as if there is a pattern of people who (as we did) beat a path out of his garage. (We were not given a copy of the 'contract' we signed.) Then day one of training was 'ok', and we started the process of teaching our Aussie how to walk properly on-leash. The first red flag was the collar. The abrupt and painful training collar used by Steve, is a type of punishment to a dog - who has yet to learn anything. Our dog yelped a number of times at its 'corrections' prompting Steve to immediately name him 'Skittish'. The extremely well-bred Aussie is anything but, there are breeds that call for a more patient approach to training for the best results. Right off the bat, it started to become clear that if we stayed with Steve's program, the moniker of 'nervous dog' might become a reality. Steve's 'correction's were bad enough. On only the 2nd day, his 'associate' grabbed our dog's leash and demonstrated HIS prowess at 'correcting'.. leading our dog to yelp loudly. Then it got worse... This remember is only DAY TWO, yet Steve decided it was time to add a 'distraction' to the training! What training?.. I imagined he meant to lead another dog onto the garage floor, or something of that sort.. But, while I was walking my dog in circles suddenly a violently loud barrage of crashing noise was created when Steve threw, not 1, not 2, but FIVE metal dog food bowls high into the air letting them crash down onto the garage's concrete floor. I don't know about my dog, but I JUMPED six feet into the air. The worst was yet to come.. By class #1, I was treated to the information that the spiked training collar Steve uses in his classes, is kept on his own dogs at ALL TIMES. I don't even keep my Aussies, that I've raised for 46 years, in a regular collar at all times,. but this man keeps his dogs in a collar that can pinch and poke its neck at any hour of the day and night.. Well the results proved manifest. During our only 2nd class, Steve's dogs were led out by an associate, from their kennel. I never saw them, but we could hear their mournful howling and crying just outside of the garage for nearly 20 minutes, while we were trying to focus on our own training. The sound was.. well, Dante's inferno came to mind. I thought, 'If this is the dog's character that comes of being 'trained to completion' by Steven Winschelhaus, I'd rather not inflict it on my dogs.' I had other reservations, including that Mr. Winschelhaus seems to have an anger simmering just below the surface - and a lack of any sincere affection for his client's charges. There was no 'warmth' exuding from the man towards the dog. It was more like a STASI prison camp. HEIR! BLEIB! SETZT! So, by day #2, I cancelled our program. I lost a substantial amount of money, since you cannot 'test' this training, you commit to 10 classes right off the bat. But at least the pincher collar came off, and my dog came home with his sensibilities intact.
