Most everyone is wonderful, but I find that it's hard to speak with Dr. Johnson. A lot of times it seems like what my partner and I tell her goes in one ear and out the other. For example, we went in to get our dog anxiety medicine, and she suggested a behaviorist (which is fine) but when my partner explained why he needed medicine too, she wasn't willing to prescribe it. She was adamant that he only needed a behaviorist until I stepped in and explained that he was lashing out and having accidents which was HIGHLY out of character for him. She only listened when I spoke up, and even then it was half-hearted. This is not the first time my partner wasn't really listened to by Dr. Johnson either. I consider this to be a problem because my partner is often the one who can take our dog to the vet. If they don't listen to his concerns for our dog, how do we know our dog is getting the best care we can give him? My family and I have brought our dogs here since 2009 and we've never had problems. The sad part is, Dr. Johnson is the only vet we've had problems with, all other vets, techs, and receptionists we've had a wonderful experiences with. read more

We've taken our dog to Creature Comforts for 8 years and I wouldn't recommend them unless you only want routine vaccinations and annual exams for your pet. If your pet has any health problems I don't recommend them because they don't do any diagnostic work to try and figure out what is wrong with your pet. For the past year our dog has been having chronic infections (skin, ear, and eye) and we were at Creature Comforts about every 2-4 weeks for over a year and given more antibiotics each time but nothing more was ever done. After 6 months of almost nonstop antibiotics I asked if something could be wrong with her immune system so it couldn't fight off any bacteria or viruses, the response was that they didn't think so. I asked if she should see a specialist, the response was "If you think so". Then she started having chronic diarrhea and was losing a lot of weight, and Creature Comforts didn't seem concerned at all and just said we could try giving our dog a probiotic because maybe the chronic use of antibiotics messed up the bacterial flora in her stomach. She ended up getting so malnourished from the chronic diarrhea that we took her to Metropolitan for emergency care and she was admitted to the hospital. The emergency vets at Metropolitan did bloodwork, an abdominal ultrasound followed by biopsies and diagnosed her with advanced lymphoma throughout her GI system, which had caused her low white blood cell count and the inability of her immune system to fight infections. All those months we went to Creature Comforts and kept asking what should be done to find out what was causing all her infections and then diarrhea and they didn't try to do anything, not even simple blood work to measure CBC. To me this demonstrates that they are not only incompetent and unknowledgeable, but they also lack compassion because if they didn't know what to do then if they cared they would have recommended that we see a specialist vet. After telling our dog's groomer this, she said that she had a client whose dog went through the same thing at Creature Comforts, chronic health problems for a long time and nothing was done and then when they went to a specialist their dog was diagnosed with cancer. So obviously our dog was not a unique case where they didn't do anything to figure out what was wrong with a chronically sick patient. read more

My rabbit developed a skin irritation that had me extremely worried and concerned for her health. With it being the Friday of Labor Day weekend, I was doubting my chances of getting her seen before the holiday. I called a few places that unfortunately could not get me in until late next week, until I remembered that Creature Comforts helps with exotics. I gave them a call, and Dr. Ayermans was able to get me in that same day. The waiting room was comfortable, all the nurses and receptionists were very pleasant and helpful, and Dr. Ayersman helped ease my worries and gave me assurance that my bunny was going to be okay. My appointment lasted 40 minutes and I was extremely satisfied with the quickness I received my appointment, the quality of care with Dr. Ayersman, and plan to return to Creature Comforts in the future for anything bunny-related. I've been going here for a few years, and overall I find them to be a good practice. The place is clean, well staffed, and professional. They're also quick to get my pet in when needed during non-COVID times. They always have the food I need in stock, and my let's have had great care when they visited. Some downsides: Because they're not a huge practice, they don't have an ultrasound machine. A few times when my pets were ill, I've had to wait or go elsewhere to get info because the vet that does it only comes in on specified days. Another minor thing is that some of the vets don't have the best bedside manners, but that's like anywhere you go. Ultimately, I will still continue to go here, and I recommend this practice. read more

My dog has a growth on her eyelid. Dr. Karin examined her and said it had to be removed. She exited the exam room and was outside in the waiting room. I was still in the exam room and I asked the vet tech how she was going to remove it. It looked filled with fluid and I wasn't sure if it would be removed with a needle or cut off and I was concerned if it was cut off if part of her eyelid wouldn't close properly. The vet tech went out of the exam room to ask Dr. Karin and I heard through the closed door Dr. Karin's response which was "Fu__ing magic." I addressed this with Dr. Karin because I felt it was totally unprofessional and she angrily apologized which was not anywhere sincere. I was shocked to hear such a response from a business owner. I know how to take a joke but her response was sarcastic and uncaring and when I addressed it she turned into a bully. I will never go to this vet again and will be sure to let everyone know how unprofessional she is. I own my own business and I see a lot of people each week who will be told of my experience. read more

I had issue with my cat, constipation that just lost his brother. So Dr. Wolbramsky said that she need to do Radiography test, it took her less then 3 minutes to come back and tell me he needs Enema, so she did it and suggest to give him Mirolax. I follow her directions, unfortunately no improvement. I am afraid something more serious is going on and now I am not sure if I trust this vets. I would not think of going anyplace else. Dr. Karen Allum is absolutely brilliant as well as warm hearted. She has compassion for people and animals. She will always take the time to calmly explain what is going on and what is needed in care of your pet. She volunteers her spare time to do free surgery in poor countries where vets are desperately needed. The staff is ALWAYS consider and so very understanding. After treating my Tonkinese cat for 5 years in renal failure, I know my boy would not have lived that long without Creature Comforts' treatment and love. Every person there has HEART. They respect people that care for their pets properly and don't give up on an animal because things may get difficult. So many people want a puppy or kitten, but not a dog or a cat. They may not be ready for the commitment and responsibility that comes with owning an animal. If Dr. Allum sees this in a person, she will tell them. You see, she cares about animals; that is why she became a veterinarian. I have been going to Creature Comforts for close to 20 years and I highly recommend them. I've been taking my dogs here for about 3 years now and it's been delightful every time. The staff are very understanding of my dogs and give their best to care for their needs. The doctors there are all so sweet and understanding and they definitely spoiled me. Although they absolutely deserve 5 stars, I took two off because of Dr. Johnson. My dog loves everyone and she is the first person that he doesn't like! And I feel the same about her because she seems careless. The people that came with me and saw her felt the same too. My dog growled at her when she tried to take his temperature and she made a face and didn't do it (the last time SHE did it, he yelped in pain and it was the first time that happened)- when she was taking temperature of my other dog, he was more relaxed- then she remarked that this is how 'normal' dogs behave. My dog doesn't have to like you and that doesn't make him an abnormal dog. She made other smart remarks about my dog and how his collar was coming off repeatedly instead of saying something meaningful and appropriate for the check up- I didn't pay the check up fee to hear her thoughts and irrelevant comments. When I asked her about my dog's tooth, she didn't even look closely to give details of why she thought it had to be pulled out. She later looked at it 3 times to explain and confirm herself. It made me so nervous that I asked if the surgeon would check the tooth to be pulled before they actually do anything. Dr. Johnson is definitely less understanding and less compliant for what I had to say and she proudly does things differently than other doctors there. When my dog was a pup and ready for all his shots, she made him come 2 different times because she thought he was too small- while other doctors let my other dogs get all 3 shots at once and they even smaller than him! She made sure I couldn't make appt for all 3 shots, while I was trying to make the next appt with the receptionist- she stood in the next room, listened to our conversation and called to make sure that didn't happen. I would've been more understanding if it didn't feel so much like a power game. If she doesn't like what you're saying and if you don't agree with her, I feel like she just shuts down and ignore me. And I feel disrespected. I had my fair share of being understanding with her and I've wanted to say something about her after the first time meeting her so it feels to good to get it out. This hospital is definitely the best, but do try to avoid her. read more

Messaged Creature Comforts through Facebook about getting a cockatiel, Wasn't expecting for a reply as quick as i did. Graham messaged me back within 15min offering me advice and guiding me to which of the stores had cockatiels. Went to the Milngavie store the next day and greeted by friendly staff who shown he around. I bought my male cockatiel and other bits like food, treats etc again with helpful guidance by the staff. After 2 days i had more questions about taming my cockatiel so i messaged again, again very quick reply and was very helpful. I did ask about clipping the flight wings, she said she wasn't sure so will pass me on to Graham to handle that advice which is very good in my opinion. I have been to multiple vets around this area, and none of them compare to Creature Comforts. This vet is hands down the best in PA. My cat had a tooth abscess that ruptured. I took her to another vet and they told me she needed to be put down. I took her to Creature Comforts as a last hope effort after being referred to them by a friend, and they were able to diagnose her and get her set up for emergency surgery for the same week. They even moved around their schedule to get us the appointment. It has now been a week since her surgery and she is fully recovered and doing great. The staff went above and beyond for me, especially knowing how emotional/worried I was. I completely trust them and can not say enough good things about the people working there. They genuinely care about both the animal and their owners and make you feel at ease through emergencies. I can not thank you all enough! read more

Just had to rave one more time about creature comforts. I also have been working with a non profit and took in a ton of foster cats recently. When I originally made the appointment, it was supposed to be for a mom and 3 babies. Well, that quickly became 13 cats. I called them the day of before (knowing they were closed) and they called back the day of. We got something worked out and they fit in a medical exam for all of the foster babes! Knowing I worked with a non profit, they also worked with me to keep the price down and to recommend low cost spay/neuter clinics in the area. Knowing these weren't my permanent babies didn't stop them from giving them the care they so desperately needed and deserved. They treated these cats as if they were mine and made sure to love on them as much as possible. I really will never get over how amazing this place is. read more

A friend recommended I see Dr. Karen Allum at Creature Comforts after expressing my disappointment with my experiences with local Vets (I am have been very disapointed with Andorra Veterinary, Hickory, and Banfield). The office is not convenient to my home, but the recommendation came so strongly I thought I would give it a try. I am so happy I did! Dr. Allum sat and discussed every problem my dog was having with me in great detail. I'm very happy with level of care that I received from my first visit. They were extremely attentive to me and my pups needs. My dogs/kids don't like for me to leave their sides during difficult moments and they were fine with that here too. A lot of offices don't want you to see how they handle your animals behind clothes doors because it can get difficult I'm sure. Either way they had no problem! I wasn't able to come in at a certain time and they immediately tried to fit me in...TWICE! My dogs are a bit skittish of the Vet and this was the first time they were actually manageable and I really don't think they even knew they received a shot. Big Lu poo-pood a little bit and the tech didn't complain or was upset. The receptionist called the next day to ask how the pups were doing and I felt they generally cared. I also liked that they have a very "open" view of hiring and I appreciate any business with that sort of view .....without going into detail. :) I'm happy and so are my 2 lil' kids! :) read more

I am very particular about the care my fur baby receives and he came from top facility in Philadelphia where he had been cared for since he was a puppy. I couldn't be happier with the new home we've found at Creature Comforts. From the ease of the appointment setting to the exceptional customer service I received from the time we arrived for our appointment until we checked out. I was truly impressed with the cleanliness of the facility, the friendliness and gentleness of the vet tech with my dog to the very thorough and detailed exam given by Dr. Allum. My dog who can be a bit skittish was totally at ease throughout our visit and left happy and calm. In my opinion, Dr. Johnson lacks the compassion and integrity that should qualify anyone to be in the veterinary health care field. When my dog was in crisis, the only thing she cared about was getting a signature to free her of any responsibility because I was removing my dog from her care. She then failed to follow through with sending medical records over to the emergency hospital, wasting valuable time. Owner, Dr. Allum apologized, stating that she was sorry that they let me down and did a dis-service to me. Because Dr. Allum accepted responsibility, it was for this reason that I returned when I got a new puppy. When my new puppy was having an issue that required immediate attention, I reached out to Creature Comforts for help. I was concerned that he might have punctured his throat with something because he was bleeding from the mouth. Once again, Dr. Johnson was the only vet available when I called for help at this practice. The receptionist put me on hold to ask Dr. Johnson if she would squeeze us in between appointments. She refused. I was told that I could wait 2 hours for an appointment or go to the ER. This shows a complete lack of genuine concern for the well being of animals in their care. This, unfortunately reflects badly on Dr. Allum and her entire practice. They will not be getting a 3rd opportunity to make another poor decision about my pets health. read more

Dr. Allum- Unfortunately, this is not a miscommunication, but I do appreciate you taking responsibility for something. I was told to either have 24 hour surveillance on my dog or have him wear the e-collar. We had 24 hour surveillance, so the statement "While I understand this owner's deep frustration with having to bear the cost of having the thigh incision re-sutured after the dog had opened it." is false. In addition, we found a piece of a staple that your Tech failed to remove from my dog and it is sticking out of his scrotum area. We would like Creature Comforts to remove this instead of absorbing another cost from a different Vet to fix another one of Creature Comfort's mistakes. I will make an appointment for tomorrow so I can get the staple piece removed, pick up my file and move on from this horrible experience. Thank you. Follow Up: I took my dog back to Creature Comforts and we found that it was not a piece of a remaining staple, but that the dis-solvable suture was coming out through his incision. I was not made aware that he had sutures under his staples on his scrotum area. However, yesterday, Dr. Allum did thoroughly explain this to me. I do have some suggestions for Creature Comforts going forward: 1. Don't give 24 hour surveillance & an e-collar options if you aren't going to honor them both equally. And by 24 hour surveillance, I mean staying with the dog the entire day and laying with the dog on the floor at night time with your spouse taking turns sleeping. 2. If you insist on using the 'glue' method, do not use it on a dog's thigh. My dog is a medium sized cock a poo with a 6 inch horizontal incision on his thigh. My assumption is that it eventually was torn when he was squatting to go to the bathroom. My comments are not to detour clients away from Creature Comforts as before this, we had a great experience, but it is to make other pet owners aware of what myself, my husband and my dog went through with this surgical experience. And because of this, we chose to leave Creature Comforts and pursue other local Veterinarians. read more

We originally took our puppy to Trooper Vet and while we were satisfied with the services, we felt that the prices were a bit much. A friend recommended us to Creature Comforts after they provided excellent care to her special needs dog. We've now been with CCVH for 2 1/2 years and having nothing but great things to say about them! The place is immaculate, everyone on the staff, from the front desk employees to the techs to the doctors themselves, are friendly and go out of their way to make sure every question or need you have is resolved. (I actually told my husband I want a part-time job here b/c they're so awesome, but he's afraid I'd bring home every sick and stray animal I meet)! The prices are reasonable and they can usually accomodate last minute emergency appointments. They offer deals on the heartworm and tick medicines as well. I highly recommend this place, I feel completely comfortable knowing that my dog is in good hands every time he goes here. read more

Hours have decreased since I started using them in 2011; no boarding options; vets don't always seem to know what they're talking about; prescriptions (Heartguard) have been messed up. Staff is nice, office is clean and stylish, vet assistants have been the best part. I can't believe we didn't find Creature Comforts sooner!!! We took my 11 1/2 yr old dog here because she was in a lot of pain & could no longer get up on her own. Creature Comforts got her in for an appointment that same day & took such good care of her! Unfortunately, our first appointment was our last because we had to say goodbye to her that day. Although this was our first time at the office, the staff were exceptional from beginning to end!! They were ALL so friendly & sweet to us and our dog that you would never know it was our first time there! They went out of their way to make things as peaceful as possible, not only for our sweet girl, but also for us while we were spending our last moments with her! About a week later, they sent us a beautiful, hand written, personalized, signed card from all of the staff. This small gesture went a long way in easing our minds in knowing that our loving companion was treated with all of the love & respect that she showed us for 11 1/2 yrs....even after we left that day! I have been taking my pets to Creature Comforts for about 8 years now. The office is spotless, you can't even tell it is a vet's office. We have a 4 year old Yellow Lab named Molly, last year, she stopped eating, when you have a lab and they stop eating you know something is terribly wrong!! We brought her to the vet, Dr. Lavin was on that day, She x-rayed Molly and determined there was some sort of a blockage, it ended up being her pyloric valve. She had to have surgery. I was hysterical, my dog is like my baby!! They gave her the most wonderful care, Dr. Lavin herself told me she lost sleep over Molly that night. It was over a weekend, and even though they were closed, the tech met us there over the weekend so we could sit and comfort Molly. When she was able to come home, they called to check on her, sent us home with very detailed instructions with all her pills, we couldn't have asked for a better vet, Dr. DiMaio and Dr. Allum are all wonderful and caring as well. I would recommend this office to anyone who wants their dog or cat to be treated with love, care and compassion! I know I would never go anywhere else!! I've been taking my Boston Terrier, Jack, to Dr. Lavin for about five years. All of the doctors and staff are always so sweet and pleasant and you can tell that they really care about our animal friends. If they find a problem, they take the time to explain everything and even send me home with a printout describing the condition. They also take the time to call and check up on Jack at home to see how he's doing. I even moved 30 minutes away, yet I still make the trip. Highly recommend. read more

I really did not feel that they cared about my cat. They saw him, could not really diagnose him, but prescribed some medication. It did not help him. I took him back to his old vet and they diagnosed him with cancer. They were ready to help in any way they could but he was too far gone by then. My boy hung on for a while longer, comforted by love and pain management, and then I had to put him to sleep. To this day, no one from Creature Comforts has ever tried to check on him. They sent a postcard reminding me to get his shots. Sad. It is a longer ride now but I will take my other kitties back to their old vet. read more

I drive 40 minutes to get to this hospital, and I will never go anywhere else. I have been a client of Dr. Allum's for 12 years and can't say enough about this clinic and her staff. They have gone above and beyond in accommodating me and my pets. I particularly like that all tests are done in front of me which helps to keep my dogs calm and me educated about the procedure. I tried a number of local vets and wasn't satisfied for various reasons. I have never felt the need to question any treatment here. In addition, the doctors speak to me as an equal when explaining what is wrong with my pet. I have never once felt rushed, and the facility is spotless and odor free.
