Wow! Randomly ate here when we were leaving Lake Alpine and heard from a lake employee (renting out kayaks) that sunsets at Bear Mountain were the bomb - so we needed to stay in the area for dinner to make it up there for sunset. We found Creekside Bistro. Headed on in and the most exuberant fun fantastic bartendress welcomed us and said come on in and what do you want to drink? lol she was the best. We ordered some cocktails, and then some more - and ordered a yummy dinner - we managed to order all and eat before the sunset thank goodnss they were open during the long weekend - then we headed to Bear Mountain and walked up the run to watch the beautiful sunset. Thanks for the bartendress (you're the best!) and the waiter for getting us in, lubed up, fed, and out in time for sunset - a memorable meal and a memorable sunset. Meh! We were staying at Bear Valley Lodge for 2 nights and there are literally 2-3 food options available so we decided to check the place out. Walked in as we didn't have reservations. Just entering you could notice the chaos this place was in. Staff was courteous and we were offered a table for 6pm. Since we were seating by the hotel lobby and had a toddler who fell asleep from the day full of snow activity, the staff was courteous enough to offer us to just sit where we were and bring our food out to us. This is less than 10 feel from the restaurant. We ordered our food and waited and waited. When nothing showed up till about 6:45pm I walked by inside and was told that they forgot to put in our order and just now started to work on our appetizers. We were upset as we had waited long but nevertheless waited for the food to come. Appetizers arrive. We are hungry so we devour them in less than 10 minutes and play the waiting game for our main course. After about 15 more minutes of nothing showing up, I walked up to the restaurant again and they went to check on the order. Finally the main course arrives. Both the dishes have the same side dish but we ignore that and start eating. The short rib was delicious and the chicken looked good too. Coupon flipping the chicken dish you could notice that the entire bird was half cooked and pink for the most parts. At this point I have fed a good amount of that chicken to my toddler and eaten it myself. Furious we go back, show the food to the staff who are apologetic but the damage has been done! We will never be eating at CreekSide again even if it is the only place left in the world and the only option to eat a meal. read more

We are upset and disappointed. DO NOT GO HERE!!! My uncle made a reservation a week ago at this place for 11 people and mind you, 5 of my family member's are visiting from another country, and we drove 4 hours from San Francisco for my father's 60th birthday celebration! When we went to the bistro RIGHT TIME of the reservation, the guy there said they cannot accommodate a group for 9 adults and 2 children even though my uncle made the reservation long before the day of! Because "they don't accommodate that big of a party, and they are not prepared" AGAIN, my uncle called the reception at the lodge and they were supposed to communicate with the kitchen staff that we were coming. This is obviously MISCOMMUNICATION, restaurant manager is not professional enough to be polite and apologize. The place wasn't even that busy at the time! They need to fire the manager and hire a new one. When we spoke to the receptionist, she said they spoke to the manager and showed that we did in fact made the reservation and still the restaurant manager DECLINED and pushed us away! They need to hire a manager that can communicate effectively and hire a chef that can cook for multiple people! Because this bad experience could've been avoided. read more

The Bear Valley Lodge has 3 food options that cater to different price ranges. Creekside Bistro is definitely on the higher end but very worth the price! We ordered the braised lamb shank, grizzly burger with tillamook cheese and bacon, and the creme brulee for dessert. The grizzly burger was our favorite and we were too excited to try that I didn't catch a picture. Everything about this burger was perfect- the brioche bun was lightly toasted, garlic aioli not crazy strong but just the right impact, and really loved the added combination of the tillamook white cheddar and bacon. Yummm. Also the fries it comes with are perfect level of crisp. The braised lamb shank was also amazing. Cooked in a red wine reduction and sat on top of potatoes. Super tender and flavorful and a huge portion. For dessert we got creme brulee! The creme has a nice decadent sweetness. The broiled sugar was a little thicker than I'm used to but still very delicious. I recommend everything! But especially the burger, wish I could eat it again! Till next time! read more

So, you can't always expect the best out of a small ski resort In the mountains, in the middle of summer. Odd ball closings, staff shortages and last minute menu changes are all par for the course at this time of the year. Despite all that the Creekside Bistro at the Lodge in Bear Valley has really shined through providing an excellent dinner for us mid week in July. Decorated in a clean, modern style ( no deer antler chandeliers or cowhide banquettes here) the place is inviting inside but also sports a large outdoor deck. Food wise, I ended up with the burger. I know, I know but it really lived up to the hype being exactly what a good burger should be. Thick, half pound, cooked perfectly medium rare with blue cheese ( and any other fixins you desire) on a soft but grill crisped bun. After a day of hiking this was exactly what was needed. It's not just a burger place though. They had a pork chop, Ribs, a couple Pasta dishes and salads as well. The shrimp Loui salad was an amazing creation. Unfortunately the steak entree had just been removed from the menu the day before :-( but you've always got to be a bit flexible up in the mountains. :-). Wow, from our experience the wait for our food was worth it. We came to this bistro during holiday weekend, we waited for a table for 20-25 minutes. Although the food took a while, we enjoyed every single appetizers, entrees and dessert. I highly recommend the pork chop! It was cooked to perfection! The camarones (coconut) and burger were also satisfying. We shared dessert which was a Russian cake which was finished within 2 minutes because it was light and so good. The food is fine. The bar is good. Unfortunately, the service is the weak link in their chain. I really wanted to enjoy my visit, but it seems like they suffer from a common 'vacation town' problem of a lack of professional trained host / service staff. Not a huge amount of choice elsewhere in the rest (a pizza place and the bar which is served by the same kitchen as best as I can tell.). So chances are you'll make do. And if you're hungry enough from a day on the hill you probably won't notice anyway. It is a shame because it has so much potential to be the jewel in the crown of Bear Valley. For us it turned out to be worth out while to head down the hill 20 minutes to Arnold where we had a few choices. read more

What a gem of a place to finish your day off after snow skiing. Tonight was our second time and it was just as terrific as the first time. Service is outstanding. Beautiful ambiance. We have been Creekside regulars for many years, and have seen new concepts initiated and several chefs come and go. The latest version of Creekside, spearheaded by Chef Bob and his wife and pastry chef Adrianne, is absolutely a winner. This is our go-to place when we want a meal that we know will be delicious, well prepared, fresh, and creatively inspired. The somewhat eclectic menu changes regularly, depending on what is seasonal and fresh, and Bob and Adrianne's latest ideas. The dining room was remodeled about a year and a half ago, and now has a modern, edgy feel to it, yet has succeeded in keeping its rustic, casual vibe that is perfect in its mountain setting. In the summer months, ask to sit on the patio filled with flowers and the creek babbling right off the deck. If it gets chilly, there are plenty of heat lamps and a couple of fire pits to keep you warm. As far as the food goes, the standouts for us include: 1. Braised pork shank, which was so flavorful and tender that it fell off the bone and melted in my mouth 2. Falafel appetizer, crispy on the outside, tender and moist in the inside, served with a delicious, garlicky dipping sauce 3. Fish curry, tender pieces of pan fried white fish in a spicy, flavorful coconut-curry sauce, served with rice 4. Little gems Caesar salad - crisp and fresh, the dressing delicious and garlicky 5. Any flavor of Adrianne's house made ice cream (but our favorite is definitely her mint chip!) 6. The tropical pavlova with mango, passion fruit and coconut, which immediately transported me to a tropical beach on my first bite 7. Actually, every one of Adrianne's amazing desserts that we have tried - panna cotta, tarts, chocolate anything, etc. You simply can't go wrong, so be sure to save some room! We have always experienced friendly, attentive and professional service from Debbie and her crew. Be forewarned though - service can be a bit slow on busy weekend nights, especially during ski season. We've found that it's best to make a reservation if you want to be sure you get a table right away, or go early. Also, while Creekside is always open during the high seasons of summer and winter, it is often closed during the "shoulder" seasons, primarily April, May, October, and November. If you are planning to visit during these months, be sure to call ahead and check. read more

We had an amazing brunch here on a beautiful but drizzly Sunday afternoon. The food was delicious and the service was wonderful. That's huge for a rowdy group of 6 adults and 7 marginally behaved kids ranging from 7-15 years! The bloody marys were made with house-prepared mix brimming with horseradish and a yummy pickled garnish. I had the muffuletta and my husband had the scrambled egg platter featuring perfectly cooked thick-sliced bacon. My table mates ordered a platter of lox to share and it arrived presented beautifully with capers, creme fraise, thinly sliced onion and crusty house-baked bread. In the past creekside was fine but since the new chef and his wife came a bit ago the food has been remarkable. Make sure to order the in house crafted desserts!! They are AMAZING! The dessert was a remarkable stack of chocolate goodies, must have been made in-house. I liked the selection of local wines, service was prompt and friendly. Our dining experience at creekside dining room was excellent. The food was delicious, especially my husband's NY steak, which was fork tender, and cooked perfectly. My beef short rib pasta was extremely tasty also. My chardonnay was so smooth, just right after a full day of snow. Our server Jason was wonderful, and made our evening and meal even better by his consideration and flexibility. He always agreed to our requests and was very attentive. Tucked away in beautiful Bear Valley is a go-to bistro with exceptional food to rival anything in the Bay Area and beyond. Bear Valley is like the Tahoe of my youth -- low-key, uncrowded, and family-friendly. Creekside Bistro under Chef Bob and Pastry Chef Adrianne has made a great place even better. We have been regulars at Creekside since their arrival in January 2015. The food is delicious, unique, and varies almost weekly. We have loved the appetizers, entrees, and desserts... Favorites include falafel appetizer, blue-cheese wedge salad, roast duck, and any dessert prepared by Adrianne... There is also an excellent selection of reasonably priced local wines. Watch out for the weekly specials that are sometimes available mid-week, which include two entrees and a bottle of wine for $30 -- best deal on the Hwy 4 corridor!
