The park itself has become one of the gems of the Salt Lake City disc golf community, featuring an 18 hole course. The park has some beautiful big trees and is relatively flat aside from the hill on the west side, and there is the namesake creek that runs along the south edge of the park. It is one of the best disc golf courses around, and plays hosts to leagues and tournaments. The major problem here is that it is directly next to the Wasatch Charter School. When school is in session, parents have decided that the parking lot for Creekside Park is where they will pick up and drop off their kids. So for hours each day in the morning and afternoon, the parking lot is next to impossible to access being clogged by those cars. The other problem with the location next to the school, is that the school has decided that the whole park is a convenient recess location. Without notice, hundreds of children will come running over the hill and flood into all areas of the park, disrupting your quiet picnics or peaceful rounds of disc golf. Now if you're a disc golfer, you probably don't want to hit a little kid in the head (I swear all the "ten bonus point" jokes are only jokes). And if you're a little kid, you probably don't want to get walloped in the head by a hurdling disc of hard plastic. I'm not sure why the school just sends out all the kids unsupervised into the woods to run wild and pay absolutely zero attention to the disc golfers who are in the middle of a round, but at some point there are bound to be injuries. The park also has one large pavilion that can seat about 100 people, a small playground for the kids, and a sand volleyball area, so it is a good option for bbq's and gatherings. My advice is that it is a beautiful park, but if you're going to try to enjoy the park during the school year, to do so on the weekends. read more

The park is looking nice these days. New signs with bag holders (that also double as a dog leash holder) are a nice touch. This is a great course to learn how to play disc golf. The holes are not that long and the terrain is pretty mellow. Just watch out you don't go in the river! You may want to avoid peak times, especially in the summer, if you don't feel like waiting around forever. read more

Creekside Park - Hole 2 - Parks Near Me - Salt Lake City, Utah

As an avid disc golfer I've spent more than my fair share of time at Creekside. The park itself is run by Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation and is in moderately good shape. The disc golf course is the most popular and busiest in Salt Lake County, but more on that in a minute. Located in Holladay and named for creekside location along Big Cottonwood creek, this community park sits on roughly 25 acres of grass and riparian corridor real estate. There's an alien aircraft looking covered pavilion on top of a hill near the parking lot that's full of picnic tables and available to rent from the county. It seats about 250. Bathrooms are located right off of the parking lot and there's a decent sized playground and two sand volleyball courts. Sometimes the pavilion has people in it, but most the time there are a few groups on the playground, a steady trickle of dog walkers and recreational walkers circling the park, and a constant flow of disc golfers on the property. The course name is officially "Walter Frederick Morrison Disc Golf Course" named for Utah's own entrepreneur and inventor of the frisbee. There are 18 holes plus an additional baskets between hole 3 and 4 and a practice basket near the restrooms. The course utilizes most of the property and goes over the river to a less developed part of the park and back again. Most of the holes range from the mid-200's up to about 400 feet, depending on the basket position, and all have cement tee pads with signs that are in various states of disrepair. There are of course, some exceptions and tournaments bring island rules and some unique mandos. The local disc golf community is good about changing pin positions frequently. For the most part, the local disc golfers are a welcoming group. You've got your fair share of shirtless wake 'n' bakers and bag toting hardcore dg junkies, but they're usually pretty mellow. Unfortunately, drinking and drug use has been a huge problem in the park and police are serious about it. There is a $750 fine for having alcohol in the park, and authorities have discussed pulling the pins if the problems persist. For my own preference, I have a hard time finding the patience to play here. Large groups and a less-than-ideal layout clog the course and make playing this relatively short course a looong affair. If I can sneak in a round at 8am I consider it, but by mid-morning it's packed, and afternoon/evenings are a joke. I'm glad this park is around. I wish there were more DG courses around to take the pressure off of this one. And unfortunately it's hard to enjoy this park as a non frolfer unless you keep to the playground and pavilion because of the sheer number of disc golfers winging discs around everywhere else. Still, it's a park. And parks are part of what makes SLC so great. read more

Creekside is the BEST disc golf course in the SLC area. It had it's challenging side to the course but it is a good place to start throwin disc and gettin to know the DG Community. Course is well maintained by the local DG Community. Leagues are played throughout the week. Glow disc is played on Thursday nights starting at 7pm. Creekside park is a great place for Frisbee Golf! I love it. Been keeping it hippy and going here for years! The grounds are awesome and the park itself is amazing. It has it all. A sand volleyball area, amazing woods and trees, playground area, and a great stream going through it. The course itself caters to both newbs and experienced froflers. Some holes are straight aways, others wind around tall oaks and others over river beds. Every hole is a Par 3 and the cage area is changed often, so every week it's a "new" course. It's dog friendly, but keep an eye out for an undercover cop who gives leash and open container tickets. Also, even tho it's located in a great area of town, it's wise to roll up windows and lock your doors. I've heard of some instances of cars being broken into. Frisbee golf or just hanging at the park, this place is great for both. A solo frisbee sesh while enjoying the beautiful scenery makes for some good outdoor therapy. read more

This park is huge!! It has a beautiful pavilion, huge open fields, a river running through the park, a large wooded area, and a giant disk golf course. The disk golf course is awesome, 18 holes. The course has been vandalized so you can't tell what number of the course your are on, so that's kind of a bummer. Overall, it is a beautiful park. It was super packed though, so be ready to fight the crowds. read more

Creekside is easily one of the best disc golf courses in the area. It's hard to pick a favorite, especially with Roots just 15 or so minutes away, but this is a really great course. The signs are great, the throws can be tricky, there are multiple basket placements to keep things fresh, everything is just great about this park. I like that you get to walk through mostly shaded areas as you go through the course. There are some really Except for the lines. Come here on a Sunday afternoon and you will find huge lines and crowds. If that happens, try starting on a further out hole like 10 or 11. While it's nice to see so many people enjoying the sport and to see the growth, I really hope this gets people motivated to get more courses in their parks. Please keep the park clean, don't leave your beer/soda cans along the course. There are garbage cans for a reason. On top of that, the course could be pulled due to alcohol. It's county property and alcohol isn't allowed as far as I know. Fines have been given in the past as well for it. Overall it's a great course that has just too many people at it. When you come early you can get a nice shot at doing the course with no lines, but any other time you'll be waiting. Enjoy it and have fun! read more

Creekside Park is known for frisbee golf, and if that's the main reason why you're going, it's probably a 5-star park. I've been to the park several times for other events, so my perspective may be a bit different, leading to my 3-star rating. First off, the park has some pretty areas and some not great areas. The large pavilion on the hill is the main visual feature. It's quite well made, a nice place to avoid the rain (unless you're in the exact center), and a fun place to reserve for a picnic or reunion. Keep in mind that they removed the posted grilling stations a while ago, so check before your trip if grilling is even allowed anymore. As far as park pavilions go, I think this one is very good. However, the lack of grilling stations puts Creekside behind many local parks in my book. The bathroom situation is a problem. Facilities are very limited, and were in a state of disrepair most of the times I've checked them out. Most parks have more restroom facilities available, and few were as bad or worse than these. The vandalism, broken fixtures, and generally unsanitary conditions are worse than par for a public park restroom. The volleyball sand pits were great, and definitely worth waking up early to lock those down for a game with friends. While the park has a "no glass container" rule to help prevent glass shards from finding their way into the pits (and elsewhere), it's always a good idea to bring along a sand rake and just make a couple passes while wearing shoes before going barefoot. I've found everything from broken sunglasses to crushed beer cans in those pits, and am glad I never found them with a bare foot or while diving for the ball. The main field in the center is mostly nice, except for some areas where the high water table turns them into soggy spots after rain or for a day or two after watering. There are also several overgrown stands of trees that hold standing water (mosquitoes in bug months) and are quite a mess with bushes, thorns, and trash. Enter at your own risk. The rules claim that dogs must be kept on leashes, but this is almost 100% ignored by the dog owners I've seen on my visits. We've had random dogs knock over folding chairs, chase kids, and have seen two all-out dog fights on separate occasions. Most parks in the area are better about enforcing leash laws, but I have yet to see any authority figure actually question anyone about letting their dogs run free at Creekside. Additionally, many do not clean up after those dogs, so watch your step. Overall, the park is good and most of what you would expect from a public park. It's better if you enjoy frisbee golf, as this is one of the top spots in the area and most of the park is devoted to it. Avoid the trouble areas as possible, and hope there isn't a 20 minute line for the restroom or multiple dogs messing with your things. read more

Creekside park is a frolfers dream come true! First of all it is huge. There are 20 holes or so spread out over a large area. Secondly, each hole is so different, whether it is on the bank of the river or nestled between an old gnarly tree, you will be challenged be each and every hole. Finally, There are tons of trees and fun obstacles to play off of. The locations of the holes are dynamic too in that they can move them around a bit to mix up the course. They keep the plave well looked after and it is in a nice part of town. It really is a fun place for anyone wanting to get out and have a good time frolfing! read more

Big park that is very popular for disc golf. This park always has people lined up to play the course. There is a pavilion on top of a hill with a bathroom close by. The park has a small stream running through it and there is a small playground for the little ones. Overall the disc course is pretty good, with a variety of holes ( throwing through trees, straight, uphill,downhill and over a river... and if the trees grow any thicker you might be able to add through the woods to your list of disc golf skills ) read more

This is another good one, albeit an enormous one. If you have a huge group and want to do an outing that involves lots of BBQing and activities for attendees of all ages and sizes, it would be hard to pick a better spot. Like all of the other big, bad parks, it has the usual facilities, pavilions, playgrounds and parking lots and all of it is plentiful. Maintenance can be dubious here, but upkeep is decent overall, for the most part. Lots of room to roam and a few trails here and there, while I wouldn't necessarily make the drive to it, outside of one of those events, if you were in the area, you definitely wouldn't be left wanting for another place.
