I am relatively new to Creemee, the high milk fat soft serve ice cream served in Vermont. But for those who have not ever had it, let me say that it is extraordinary. It is my favorite variant of ice cream: super rich, it has a soft and delicate mouth-feel, and it is extremely creamy (hence the name). The Creemee stand (owned by the Boyd family) is my favorite place serving Creemee in the area. They always have vanilla and chocolate (which you can get as a swirl), and Vermont Maple. All three are outstanding, but I like Maple the best. There's just a hint of maple, which adds a hint of a maple/caramel that accentuates the creaminess of the vanilla. Sometimes they also have Black Raspberry, which is also very good. They also serve hard scoop ice cream as well and I'll bet it's really good. I just will never find out because if I'm at the Creemee Stand, you can bet I'll be getting some Creemee. read more

When we told people we were going to Vermont, everyone told us to try a cremee which is supposed to a consistency between a soft serve and ice cream. So we did what we were told and went to the Cremee Stand up the road to where we were staying in downtown Wilmington. It's about three miles out so you can't walk it from downtown at night. The road is pretty dark. Once we got there, there was splattering of people who came just for the cremees. We ordered the maple cremee because -- Vermont. I will have to agree with another poster who said there was very little maple flavor. I really felt like I was eating a vanilla soft serve. I mean, I do like a vanilla soft serve but not the thicker consistency I was expecting and definitely didn't taste any maple. It was still a nice after dinner break. This is some of the best soft serve I've ever had in my life! I've never heard of a Maple Creemee before coming here, but now I will never be able to go to Vermont without getting my hands on one! It's such a rich, creamy soft serve that looks like vanilla but has a lovely maple aftertaste. It's definitely not too sweet and it's not an overpowering amount of maple. I got mine on a cake cone and it was delicious! I definitely think Vermont's creemee beats typical soft serve, it's soft and airy and that higher fat content makes it so delicious! The service was quick and easy, as was the parking out front. The cute little yellow shack definitely speaks to Vermont's charm. Came here for all the positive reviews about how good their maple creemees were, left super disappointed. I don't know if this was a bad batch or what, but ours tasted like vanilla soft serve, practically no maple flavor whatsoever. So much so, my wife confirmed with staff they did not give us vanilla by accident. A woman sat down next to us shortly after saying "it doesn't taste like maple at all", confirming it just wasn't us. We had our first maple creemee at Mildred's the day before, which was outstanding, and drove 32 minutes here, excited to get the better reviewed one. If you love ice cream, you will definitely want to come to Creemee Stand! We were in search of maple ice cream, because that flavor is not readily available at home in New Jersey. A Wilmington resident told us her favorite ice cream place is Creemee Stand and gave us directions to drive here. The stand is located on a rural road, not near any other businesses, and as we were driving we thought maybe we had misunderstood the directions. Finally, after passing miles of nothing but trees and meadows, we spotted a very small building with a few weathered picnic tables and a sign for ice cream. The place looks absolutely ramshackle and like it could fall down any day now, but the ice cream was fantastic, really truly amazing! It was exceptionally creamy, thick, and flavorful. As we were eating, a Black Bear came up from the creek and forest next to Creemee Stand! I have only seen a wild bear two other times in my life so I was excited to see this bear! After hiking Stratton Mountain, I had worked up a bit of a sweat and what better to cool me down than a classic Vermont treat: maple creemee. Seeing that Creemee Stand was (sort of) on my way back to Albany, I had to give it a try. I was very happy to have a GPS direct me into the parking lot, because you won't know it's there if coming from the north. A bumpy gravel parking lot sits in front of a tiny trailer-sized building that only accepts cash. As I have learned, some of the best ice cream comes from tiny shacks, so I definitely had my hopes up. Less than a minute after pulling in, I had one of Vermont's delicacies in my hand. Good soft-serve ice cream is smooth and creamy, and this was definitely both. The sweet maple flavor, coming from syrup produced nearby, provided a great maple flavor without being overpowering. This was definitely one of those times I wish I wasn't lactose intolerant, because I could have easily downed a large cone and then some. The staff working 6/10/23 left a lot to be desired. Two large cones 6.25 each, gave the young adults working the register a 20 dollar bill and received 7 dollars back and they closed the window. Could have said something but wasn't worth my time. We have been coming to this stand for years and have lived in this area since 2005 and expect more from people. This is the go-to ice cream place in the Wilmington/Dover area. Fresh and delicious ice cream, great sundaes. Fun picnic benches with just the right laid-back atmosphere. They don't open until 12 noon unfortunately. Rarely a long line, and when it's long it moves quickly enough. On my last visit, during Blueberry Festival, I got the seasonal Blueberry Sundae. This was a destination drive for our first date anniversary. A lovely day for a lovely drive, and well worth the time. I actually missed the turn the first time since Creemee Stand was smaller than I realized. Came back, and fortunately not busy so we could try all the custard flavors: vanilla, chocolate, maple, and the special flavor of the day was creamsicle. The custard was as good as the best I grew up with in Wisconsin: dense, so smooth, delicious. Kids and I agree that the chocolate is fantastic, good flavor, not as sweet as the maple. The mister preferred the clean flavor of the maple. Creamsicle was good but all mixed up as an orange-flavor custard, so it was lacking the acidity-creaminess one-two punch of the original confection. All agreed the vanilla, while usually a favorite, was the clear loser in this case. I called it "cake batter flavor" while the mister judged it as "vanilla Charleston Chew flavor." I'm both happy and sad that Creemee Stand isn't closer. Sad because I'd go every day of summer, and happy because I don't need to buy giant pants to accommodate my widening butt if I did eat it every time I desired. read more

Attention people of the world: at this unlikely spot in the middle of the woods in Vermont exists one of the greatest ice cream products ever created. The creemee is a delicacy unique to the state of Vermont, much like Boudin is in the south, where everyone seems to have their own favorite place that they believe makes it best. You can find creemees at gas stations, grocery stores, farm markets, and many other locations in this great state. Well, I am here to say that I know absolutely nothing about creemees and have had pretty much no experience eating them. However, I do know a little about ice cream, having gobbled it up in the best places I have been able to access across the world. So, when this little stand in a small dirt clearing in the woods of Vermont served me one of the top few desserts I have ever tasted in my life, I was pretty amazed. The Vermont Maple Creemee here is a masterpiece. For New Yorkers reading this it has a base sort of similar to the custard served at shake shack but with achingly fresh local cream and far smoother, richer consistency. Since they are using custard, you can instantly taste the extra body provided by the egg yolks as well as the decadent, velvety texture that they produce. The maple syrup in this treat is real and, as such, is subtle, complex, and just sweet enough. The actual consistency of this custard is almost unbelievably smooth. As in, I kept staring at it really closely, trying to deduce exactly how it maintained that kind of mouth feel. The location is just really fun and weird and cool and the ice cream is utterly unforgettable. So, from someone who knows absolutely zero about the creemee culture of Vermont: rock this place. UPDATE: I know a lot more about creemees now, 2 years later, as I have since travelled throughout VT looking for the best one. This is still, by far, the best creemee in the entire state. read more
