Saw the sign as I was driving by. Always like to patronize small businesses, and like to see what they offer. First thing to hit was the aroma. I was 40 feet from the door, and the smell wafting toward me was fabulous. Inside, there were several bakers preparing muffins and other goodies (for the next day?). Lucy was waiting on a woman who had driven down from Brattleboro. This woman was praising the decaf coffee, and baked goods. I opted for a lemon bar and an almond croissant with chocolate. The woman approved. Quick digression - very clean bathroom, w an interesting painted sink (see pix)....and an old Remington typewriter. The lemon bar was amazing. My lips were so puckered the rest of my 50+ mile ride home, I was fantasizing about my good friend, also named Lucy, and what I could do with those puckered lips. I really enjoy this bakery and make it a point to visit it whenever I am in Bernardston. It always yummy, and the quiche of the momsnt are my faves. But gosh I just had such an unbelievable experience with Lucy that didn't need to happen. I bought a $100 ticket to their cooking class. But I made a mistake and bought the wrong event. I also didn't realize my partner wanted to also attend. So almost two weeks before the event I emailed explaining that I wanted to switch my ticket to the following week's event and buy an additional one. I really do understand that this would not be ok if I asked for this accommodation a day before and knowing how expensive this was I addressed the issue right away. I received an immediate link just to their cancellation policy with zero preamble and when I asked for an exception I was told no, never, not anyone for any reason. They will not make any changes at any time (even for more money) so be really sure before you spend that $100 or better yet don't. Lucy's behavior is obviously her choice but now I get ro go to a class I don't want to take, (yay) with a person I think is pretty rude, and I didn't buy a second ticket. Making this change for a class almost two weeks out that was nowhere near sold out so your loyal customers could have a great experience (a no brainer) would have cost her nothing and gotten her lots of goodwill. But now I don't even want to go to the bakery for anything ever again. Damn I really liked tht place. I'll try to enjoy the class I guess and let friends know what the experience has been like. Lucy, your customers are going to engage with your business in both wonderful and frustrating ways. You will have to make adjustments once in a while if you want to maintain goodwill, loyalty, and repeat customers. read more

Sweet Lucy's Bake Shop is a must stop when you are traveling up Route 91 through Bernardston on the way to Vermont. We stopped in and were looking for some items for a leaf peeping drive through the green mountain state. We are so happy we did. We had many items we wanted to try but we settled in on an almond croissant, a fruit nut bar, and two oatmeal plus cookies. The trouble is we traveled a few miles before we tasted them, because we should have bought more. We have tasted croissants from New Orleans to Quebec City to Portland Oregon and the West Coast. These were by far the most delicious flaky delightful ones ever. The cookies where delish and I loved the fruit nut bar at the top of Mount Equinox a few miles north. My wife has a few allergies and they were more then helpful in identifying all the ingredients to make sure we didn't have an issues. Easy on and off from the highway, we will be stopping in every time we go by. The deserts are the best. Such a great variety. The service was amazing. Any questions I asked was able to be answered. The place is small and cute. A very homely feel. You can see them make the desert right behind where they serve. I was out there for work. If I had more time I would have tried the delicious food. That they serve. Our boss ordered cake and some cake pops for a coworker who was leaving the company. ALL of us couldn't stop talking about how good everything was. It was beyond delicious!!! We had a chocolate raspberry cake that was absolutely phenomenal!!! The cake pops were huge, moist and delicious!! The macaroons were also excellent!! Hands down one of the best bakeries I've been too in a long time. The staff is friendly, the baked goods are top notch and the atmosphere is calm. There isnt much space inside but great outdoor picnic tables. Must try: sticky buns, ham and egg crossiants, raspberry filled corn bread, cake pops, and donuts (Thursday only). Wow! I do not live near here and I have never heard of this town. I live in Worcester and my husband works in Chicopee. His electrician has brought him goodies from here twice. Incredible! I'm not a dessert person but this stuff is out of this world. I had the cornbread cake. Just sweet enough but hits the spot. The crumble topping is perfect. The coconut cake..... I've died and gone to heaven. There is no cake that will ever compare to this cake. Sweet, airy, creamy and freaking unreal! If this place was in a city, it would be in high demand. Lucy is a master baker. If you have not sampled the baked goods, just go, try, return, return again, and again... Just try not to. It's impossible not to. You may see that the prices are a bit higher than what you may buy at the grocery store, but these products are expertly baked, using real ingredients like real butter and fruit. There are many goodies to choose from like lemon bars, muffins, cookies, whole cakes, French macaroons... Oh, the French macaroons. If you haven't tried these, you have never had the best! I really did not like them before I tried Lucy's. I've had good ones, but not amazing ones! The flavors vary, but my favorites are the raspberry, lemon, and peanut butter/chocolate. She makes a different creative donut each Thursday morning. I've had some delicious brioche donuts in a variety of flavors. I can only eat one as they are very filling. There are takeout meals available, but I haven't tried these yet. read more

Excellent bakery and cafe and super friendly. We had a slice of the rainbow cake - it was out of this world moist and delicious and better than any rainbow cookie I've ever had. The cream pie was also excellent - the crust was so flaky and the filling was clearly made from scratch and very good. Not at all like the cardboard crusted pies you often get. It's close to the exit so travel only a bit past Dunkin right off 91-it is worth the extra half a mile. read more

This was my second time visiting here. The first was last December when travelling and we stopped by to get some coffee and deliscious treats. This time we have a pie making lesson with Lucy. She was knowledgable and a ton of fun. What a fantastic new place to visit for delicious pastries and treats! We stopped by here on a whim late last week and I've already been back for a second visit. Between the two visits, we've tried a number of different baked goods. My children's favorite was the raspberry cornbread, which I've fielded lots of requests for more of. Other items we tried included the almond croissants, macarons, toffee apple galette, ginger molasses cookies, and spinach & feta croissants...all were fantastic! read more

i love this sweet lil bakery!! such a nice spot in the center of bernardston and centrally located on 5&10. i stopped in after hearing about it from a friend and was warmly greeted by Lucy! baked goods are easy to do wrong, and they have definitely got it right. not only do all their treats look amazing, they're delicious as well! the coffee was unexpectedly great too - rivals my favorite pierce brothers brew. as i sat and drank my coffee, i watched the owner cheerfully greet and interact with all her customers - it's almost worth going just for the friendly faces and warm words. the instagram for this place is great too and will definitely draw people in! can't wait to go back and see this place thrive read more
