When I compare my remodel story with my friends and family, I realize they all had issues that I couldn't relate over. They always either had an issue with craftsmanship, dealing with the city (I.e. inspections), or transparency in pricing. These are conversations I've never had to have with Peter. I had the privilege of constantly adding requirements and scope with the confidence that it would just get done on time with incredible quality. Peter Hawke and his crew/subcontractors were amazing to work with from the beginning to the end! From the demo stage, to updating electricals/plumbing, installing a brand new kitchen & bathroom, to exterior siding and door/window replacement work, Peter made the stressful and lengthy construction process manageable. The 7 month project was completed on time (even during the pandemic!) and within budget. Peter is well organized and very knowledgable with all aspects of construction, the building codes, and the inspection process, and I had confidence that everything was done with upmost attention to detail integrity. He was extremely communicative, worked well with my architect, provided reasonable and creative solutions when construction issues came up, and managed the multiple aspects smoothly. That's when it turned into a dream renovation! Andy and crew are meticulous: highly skilled, earnest, hardworking and careful. Everyone works together seamlessly, enjoy their work and each other's company. They are polite, respectful and patient. I believe people work happily when they're paid fairly and treated respectfully, and credit Andy with that. I worked on this project for my house in San Francisco from Southern CA, mostly by phone, text and email. I was only able to come up 3 or 4 times during the process. I had to pick paint colors and tile for floors and walls by long distance, plus make a million other decisions. First, Tom is old school and you're going to have a better time if you just call him on the phone rather than sending him a long email. I have been in this business since 1974 and have worked with contractors who range from cowboys with hammers to mega developes in Manila and the normal people in between. One assumes that if someone has a contractor's license you're going to get the finest quality work and that these workers are capable of doing whatever project they are hired to do. What elevates some contractors to a level above the rest is rational analysis of problems that may arise. The designer might be a tad dyslexic, the architect's draftsperson might inadvertantly err, materials might fall off the back of the truck, someone's toolbelt might accidently mar finished material - name your construction nightmare then analyze how the contractor reacts. Sean Kennedy never seems to derail. He takes a deep breath, discusses the options and resolves the issues, whatever they may be, in a mature, deliberate and calm manner. This is so important when you're working with a contractor. There are always surprises in renovation. Integrity should be this man's middle name. There is no blame, there is resolution and the end results are always at or above what the owner has expected. I can't tell you what a joy it is to work with Sean and his staff. They do what they're hired to do, in a timely manner, at the highest level of quality and for the amount of money that has been agreed to.
