When they originally came to scope the project out we explicitly talked about some extra things - but then at the end of the job they said they actually weren't in scope and wanted me to pay extra. Then, when I held back on paying the final bill until that was resolved, they unwarned put a mechanic's lien on our house. Also I'm nervous about their billing setup generally - it got hacked last year and I almost got scammed out of $11k. And during the job itself, they had to take the crew off of our job for an "emergency" somewhere else, leaving a big gap where there wasn't any progress while we had an active construction site at our house. I understand some level of scheduling issues but this was really frustrating. So overall, I'd say all of this put a really bad taste in my mouth, and I'd be really torn on whether to work with them again. It is a complex job involving a variety of skills--carpentry, finish carpentry and stucco. Yonis and his team at K&B did a great job. We would definitely hire them again. A couple of high points: they did the job promptly. Unlike some of the other projects around the neighborhood, they didn't start with a bang and then limp across the finish line weeks later. They worked every day from start to finish, arrived on time and all of the workers were always courteous. They worked cleanly--each day and each tradesman cleaned up when their work was finished. There were no piles of trash around the yard! They showed great respect for our home, yard and all of the materials (those doors weren't cheap!). Yonis is a good communicator who keep us appraised of who was coming and when, and if something changed, he let us know. The job was done on time, on budget and Yonis and I could shake hands at the end and be friends--the sure sign of a good experience. Highly recommended.

I contacted Yonis, the owner, and he guided me in utilizing the lifetime Grohe warranty to order replacement parts, and he sent out his plumber twice, once to diagnose (that's how we knew we needed replacement parts), and once to install the replacement parts. Even though this repair was 7 years after the remodel, Yonis was super-prompt and helpful with all communications. And even though the problem with the faucet had nothing to do with the quality of his work, he did not charge me anything for the two plumber visits!!! We approached Calibuilder for our bathroom remodel after hearing great reviews from our neighbors…read more We worked with Azeen as our project manager. At the time, I was 32 weeks pregnant and hoping to have the remodel completed before our baby arrived. Azeen came over, listened carefully to our needs, and patiently discussed all the details with us. Our project was a like-for-like bathroom remodel, and Calibuilder's quote was competitive compared to other companies we considered. Knowing that our neighbors also had a great experience gave us confidence in choosing them. Throughout the project, we had a group chat with Azeen, where we documented all the finer details to ensure nothing was missed. This was incredibly helpful in keeping everyone aligned as the project progressed. Azeen also recommended a few stores for finishes and tiles--we went with Porcelanosa and are very happy with the final result. She prioritized our project, which we really appreciated given the baby could arrive any day. While there were a few things that initially didn't turn out the way we had hoped, calibuilder was responsive and came back to address and fix them. If you're particular about the small details, like we are, we recommend clearly communicating them upfront and documenting everything. Also, be sure to discuss any potential additional costs for smaller tasks that may not be included in the original quote to avoid surprises later. This turned out to be a very detailed and complicated project with many moving parts. We ripped out the entire old bathroom including walls, ceiling, the floor, and redid everything from scratch. We also repositioned the bathtub, vanity, and redid the entire plumbing system. The project manager, Azeen was very responsive, involved and caring. Along the way, Azeen was always available to answer any of our project/progress related questions, to address our concerns, and to discuss next steps. Azeen jumped at resolving any issues, and she also helped with finished product selection, provided her advice and guidance on design. It was a pleasure to work with her. Despite some bumps, and challenges, which alway come up with any construction project, overall we are very happy that we've selected CaliBuilder for this project and we are fully satisfied with our new beautiful bathroom. They…read moreimpressed, whether it was with the handling of inspections and inspectors, the transparency with financials, or the simply trade itself, John Shaw and his team were always on top of our renovation. Professional, respectful, and highly communicative, he was always there whenever we needed him, by text, phone, or in person, if we needed reassurance, advice or progress reports he always seemed to be right on the ball. It's hard to communicate just how important this is to keep the blood pressure down while undertaking something as life altering as a major home renovation, but we always felt Fahan had it under control. Our project was completed on schedule, 7 months to do a new kitchen, master bath, staircase installation, family room and deck, plus electrical and lots of small detail work around the house. Seven months is really something considering how easily big renovations like ours can go off the rails. Horror stories abound, and we, quite literally, had none. What a huge relief. In terms of costs, Fahan was transparent and upfront with us. They estimated and invoiced all expected and unexpected costs up front, and clearly stated any potential overruns. There were some, but none that we felt were from left field, and for each one we were given options to keep in line with what we were comfortable with. We understood and signed off on everything before anything moved forward, with a comforting degree of transparency. The only downside we could see was that the pricing tended to be high. It's not entirely clear however if this was due to the current economic conditions of '22-'23 or if it's just what quality work and workmanship costs. But as they say, you get what you pay for. Overall, we felt well-taken care of throughout the process, like there was an insider who knew the business, the pitfalls and the tricks. "I trust them", were words we uttered more than once. Most of the time we weren't even at the house, only catching up on the progress on weekends, but we always knew that the work would get done and with little to no issues along the way. THe house turned out amazing. We really couldn't be happier with the work they did. Fahan's just a quality outfit, contractors and subs, that you should trust with your house too. He was extremely thorough: from working with the architect to co-ordinating with all the inspectors, to introducing us to all the members on his team and what we could expect from them on a regular basis. He managed the whole project effectively by providing us with timely quotes, invoices and being diligent about addressing any follow up questions we had. If there were any unforeseen issues with the weather or supply chain issues, John kept us informed and worked around each of these issues while keeping the project on time. Every single day, his team would show up on time and work diligently while keeping us posted if they needed anything. When we wanted something updated or changed, they obliged us immediately. What was particularly impressive is that they pulled off a number of different projects working across 3-4 different groups of people! I will definitely miss them around our home.
