Don't even remember how I found Paul Edwards...the BIG IRISH BOSS; I am not only happy I did, but totally blessed as well. In 1999 I purchased a 5 unit apartment building with full amenities (carport, laundry room, lockers, covered garages)...built in 1979. In 2014 moved back to prepare the building for much needed work. It took me 4 years to find the right contractor(s). You deal with so much bull from so many...it's amazing. Paul stood out...from start to finish. He delivered everything he promised. Paul came to the site and listened to what I wanted and the questions I had; he took measurements and walked around...asked a lot of questions...not one of his questions were: "What's your budget?" Instead, he said he would have to consider the time, manpower, and the project as a whole (if it was workable), then he would devise a bid, send me a copy, and set up a time to go over it with me. Paul was so thorough that when he left I began to hope (worry) he could and would take the job. Paul called me once or twice to clarify the work. He would install insulation, use OSB (instead of plywood), and TyVek (brand). Decision on the siding came down the line (between stucco, APE, and T1 11); also installed brand new double-pane windows. Paul was cool with my choices; he said they are all pretty much within the same range regarding interiors. The bid was sent a week later and we met several days after to go over everything. My bids came in from, $169,000 to $301,000; Paul was in the middle with every detail down to the wire. His bid was so clear and crisp from the Permit application to the caution of placing extra money aside for unexpected problems (dry rot, termites) that are common in jobs this big. It also included all labor, materials, scaffolding, what he did do and wouldn't do (dryVit stucco). In May of 2018...we were on board...signed, sealed, delivered to start July 7, 2018; this gave me time to notify my tenants and let them know they could not park in their assigned spots until the work was complete. Scaffolding arrived on the day and time promised. Paul's crew are THE BEST AND SECOND TO NONE. They worked hard, were on time every day, Monday - Friday 8: am - 4:30 pm with a half hour lunch, and were immaculate. Every day they left the area swept and clean...all garbage and debris removed (including all the old siding). They were also extremely courteous to my tenants and a very fun bunch of happy guys...just great to have on a job like this. The job went really smooth, Inspector was happy and we passed all three inspections. We ran into some dry rot and termite damage; dry rot included 3 beams under steps and deck (rough job), and termite damage was 1 beam (termite damage was under warranty and cost us nothing). Beams with dry rot only added $6,000...mainly because they had to secure the decks on 4 floors to remove the old beams and replace with new (labor). It was a good save and the building is really secure. Decided on same siding, "T1 11" and pre-mix special color stucco on ground level (pictures attached). The bid never changed. Work was wrapped up in mid-August 2018 and I couldn't be happier...so are my tenants. Two important issues: 1). Paul returns and responds to all your calls and texts immediately. 2). He always keeps you informed on what is going on (where you're at, what's next, timelines). That's my review of Exterior Remodeling Specialists...THE BEST EVER CONTRACTOR & CREW!!! **If you are going to do siding, painting, and / or anything that requires scaffolding...bring your neighbors on board. Send them a letter letting them know what you are planning, the work and time involved, and who your contractor is. It shows respect and helps the project along. I did all of the above and offered to clean the exterior of their windows when the job is complete (for all the dust & dirt that flew around). They were all very appreciative and were great to Paul and his crew. **This is up to you...but I treated the crew to lunch every Friday ($20 each), and once in a while brought them some cookies or cupcakes. When they wrapped up I gave each of them a $100 bill with a "Thank You" note. They deserved that and more. **Read your contract CAREFULLY. Paul is honest and thorough...but others (if you don't use Paul) have loop holes that are going to protect them...NEVER YOU. About a year ago I took the plunge and started a full renovation of my San Francisco home. The original plan was to just do the inside but as can be the case in San Francisco unfortunately we ran into issues that exposed the poor condition of the exterior of our home. Once it was decided that we do the work to repair and update our exterior I reached out to several contractors. Paul at ERS was by far the fastest the respond and not only respond but stop by the property to immediately give his opinion and rough estimate. He was incredibly personable, easy to speak with and genuinely honest about our situation. We quickly worked out a quote and work began quickly. Paul and his team were incredibly patient and thoughtful of our property, our tenants and ourselves. As first time owners and renovators we had lots of questions that they helped us through. The worked quickly but at the highest level of quality. As work progressed Paul was pointing out several errors in previous work that had been done and took it upon himself to fix those errors as part of the project. He and his team as well as any subcontractors all were dedicated to only giving us the best work and made sure that happened. The work Paul did convinced me quickly to also work with Paul on rain gutters, installing front doors and eventually redoing the entire front of our home which was also not original in the plans. We can't speak highly enough about the experience of working with Paul and his teams which is above and beyond the fact that all of the work they did was of the best quality. Horrible response. No response! I called 4 times in two weeks with no response. Perhaps my job was too small for them. I only wanted my front of my house redone. But, still, someone could have responded and listened to what I was seeking. No call back = bad Yelp review. I called them because of their great reviews on this site. Paul (the owner) and his workers are the best! We had our Coastal home completely redone down to the studs in September-November 2017. We also cut out two new picture windows and added an angled pitched porch roof and spindle sides. We needed to replace everything that was original and wanted Hardie Siding that would last decades. Our house takes LOTS of coastal weather elements and we knew that Paul was the right person for the job at the initial meeting. He is everything you would want in a contractor! Great communication, knowledge of homes, years of experience and very professional. He took care of our home as if it he lived there and knew what needed to be done. He answered all my calls/texts quickly, kept me constantly informed, and always followed up on work from subcontractors. He is a perfectionist, which we loved. He also has great sub contractors which we needed of electrical, flooring patch, chimney, and painting. He started work on the set date, every morning supplies arrived at 7am and workers 8am-4pm M-F and on the dot. The workers we very respectful, friendly and cleaned up nicely each day since we have small kids who use the yard. My neighbors were happy that they were at work during all construction and the work was done quickly. Paul also found me another hard working professional to paint my home, which was another great experience. Paul's paperwork Bid was nicely laid out as well to see all costs. We are extremely happy with the entire process. I got the cozy warm coastal craftsman's styled home I wanted. Now we don't have any more drafts, traffic noise, mold and other elements issues that we had been fight with for 13 years. The Windows are of excellent clarity also to see our ocean views. Excellent in ever respect. Paul and his crew came through for an exterior remodel; including removing old shingle siding, replacing or repairing plywood. He installed new Hardie Siding and new Milgard windows and sliders throughout. Although weather halted the project a few times, there was never a change or adjustment to his original estimates. His crew always arrived early and never left the property until it was clear of tools and debris. They were always curious and even gave me helpful information on the small DIY-side projects I was doing at the same time. If Paul wasn't on site, he was always available by phone. Paul is very responsive and does excellent work. We talked to many contractors before selecting Paul to replace our deck and siding. Paul clearly had a lot of in depth knowledge on the issues involved. He explained the options clearly and provided us with quotes quickly. I suspect that a key advantage that he has over many other contractors is that he is a specialist in that he does exterior remodeling only: siding, windows, and decks. The result is that he and his crew know what they're doing and can do it quickly and well and on budget. Paul has two crews. The work at our house was done by Pablo, Urbano, and friends. Most of the crew had been working for Paul for 5 to 15 years or more. They clearly enjoyed their work and they did it well. read more

So disappointed! I made an appointment with ERS and Paul came out and gave me an estimate. It was a fair price and we decided to do it soon. I was to wait for him to provide me an estimate to be sent via email. This was in August. In September and October, after never receiving the estimate, I called and left many voicemails. I then tried emailing. I then tried texting. No response. I called one last time and Paul answered the phone. He remembered me and apologized. He stated he would get me the estimate soon. It never came. I'm sure he does great work, however, this lack of follow up is disappointing. read more

Paul gave us a great estimate on a new Fiberon deck for our house. He had great ideas for the design and the end result looks fantastic thanks in no small part to his expertise and willingness to work through the little details with us. During constructions of the Deck we found a LOT of dryrot and significant damage that had to be repaired before we could go any further. Paul was able to give us another great price and was able to work out a schedule to get our house fixed and our deck built quickly. We hit several more snags with our HOA, a second leaky window, and us adding to the original job and at every stage Paul made it work and worked with us to keep the costs from getting completely out of control even as the job kept getting more complicated. The original stucco had no shear wall underneath and the crew came in, installed all of the shear, replaced all of the windows and doors, installed house wrap, and did a fantastic job with the Hardy Board siding. This winter was a great winter for the Bay Area as we got a ton of rain and it lifted the drought. Unfortunately, that was not good news for our house. The storm and rain caused significant damage to our back stucco wall and over a course of a few months, we were getting water leaks through our window and walls. Paul's team did an amazing job on the wall. Here's just a list of a few things that I was impressed with: 1. Paul and his team are seriously exterior specialists. We talked to a few other general contractors that provided us a few options on stucco and siding replacements. None provided the level of detail that Paul provided in his assessment of our exterior wall. 2. Given the foggy and wet climate we have here, he uses a concrete / composite siding that appears to be tougher and longer lasting in this harsh environment. The frame around the windows and sidings are also made of the same concrete / composite and are thick and tough (not wood that rots or thin plastic materials). 3. When we took apart the stucco, we found damages to the interior frame (dry rot and termite damage), Paul replaced the interior frame with pressure treated wood, and not regular 4x4. This reassured us that he's thoughtful and had the best interest of our house in mind and wasn't going to compromise his work or our home. 4. Paul's team was great to work with. There were times I walked around the house and pointed out things that I wanted adjustments to and never did I get any push back. They were very detail oriented. 5. Paul's an easy going guy and easy to talk to. He may not be the cheapest (and you get what you pay for), but he will get the job done right and you'll feel good knowing your home is well protected after his team is done. read more

I had a very difficult deck repair -- dry rot beams extending into the house, holding up a deck fifty feet above the ground. The structural drawings called for deep pilings dug into the hillside in an area inaccessible to most digging equipment. It was not an easy or quick job. I ended up calling about thirty contractors over a year and a half -- most never returned my call or said they couldn't, or wouldn't, do it. Paul worked with me, the city, and my engineer to keep costs down, exploring creative solutions to a challenging job. His contract was clear and straight forward. He was completely upfront about everything. Paul did an excellent job, adapting to the continuous stream of surprises and solving unforeseeable problems daily. The structural drawings ended up being wrong in many ways, but Paul knew what had to be done to make it right. He always kept me informed and worked with me to keep the added costs minimal. He was always focused on doing the job properly and his crew were always on-time, courteous and hard working. In the end our new deck is very solid--much better built than the structural drawings called for--and looks great. Paul was able to come by and take a look at the work within a few days of my call. He agreed to do the work (a small job that I was worried nobody would want to bother with) at a fair price (compared to two other contractors who looked at the work) and completed it a few days later, which was great because I needed the work done ASAP. He was flexible about scheduling as I had a painting contractor working on my house at the time. The work: He removed a section of siding and an old shuttered window frame (on my 1900-era victorian) that I wanted to eliminate, reframed the interior, and reinstalled new wood siding and some trim details, and caulked it all. My wife and I had a wonderful contractor working on our house. Sadly he was killed in a motorcycle accident in San Francisco on 8 November. My wife and I were left with a large area in the back of the house with no siding. We knew that the first serious rain storm would ruin the sheet rock and insulation. We had 3 contractors bid the complete replacement of our ~800 sqft deck. Paul was the most expensive by some margin, but his knowledge of the materials, process, and solution-oriented attitude had me comfortable at once. Paul's attention to detail and craftsmanship is second to none. I chose all of the major design features (glass windbreak, fibron decking, redwoood railings & gates, etc), but left the details to Paul's discretion and the final product is more than I expected. Every place on the deck where he could have easily cut corners, he chose not to. This is as thorough a job as I would have done myself, had I the time and knowledge. I am a state/county home provider to a person with Autism. That person has lived in my house for 7 years. I am obligated to keep my house SAFE at all times or my client would be removed. I live on a hillside facing a canyon and the ocean. After the heavy storms in January and early February 2017, my old siding failed and I had water intrusion along the entire back wall of my home (3 rooms). As an emergency measure to prevent more damage/mold, a handyman came and tore out my wet sheetrock and saturated insulation. He covered the damaged siding with plastic. I also had floor damage. Insurance would not cover it, calling it "wear and tear" (old nail holes that loosened over 15 years of horizontal wind, rain, fog, heat, etc.. and became portals for water). I called so many contractors. Most didn't call back, a few came by and said they would do the work after 3-4 weeks of no rain but never came back with a bid. Then the big storms came. There was nothing between the interior of the house and the 60mph winds over President's Day except T1-11 siding and plastic protection. The house shook like a popcorn popper and my client and I were terrified. It was like living in a wooden shack in the middle of a hurricane. PAUL from ERS to the RESCUE. Paul returned my desperate call within 24 hours, asked me to email photos, came right over, said he could absolutely complete the job in the 6 days between rains (to my absolute astonishment) and agreed to postpone other work so my client could stay in his home and not be relocated to live with strangers. I'm a low income person and Paul's bid was fair and do-able (with the help of a bank loan). The next day, on time (!!!) all the workers and material arrived as promised! It was amazing to see Paul and his crew have so much integrity and commitment to excellence. I have been in my home since 1999 and have had nothing but flaky contractors, work that is delayed by weeks or months, and shoddy non-lasting repairs over the years. Paul, Jose (drywall) and crew were my lifesavers, my heroes, my angels who saved my client from having to move out. Paul brought in an electrician and a flooring expert to assist. EVERYONE WAS AMAZING! The work was done so fast with true care. OUTSTANDING! My client and I went from danger to safety with ERS's ultra-sturdy hardie board siding and drywall job in 3 days!!! At the time of writing, we still have a day or so of floor repair pending but my house is SOLID, safe, and beautiful (needs exterior paint). The house is in far better condition now then when I first moved in. Clean up was perfect also. Paul is a true mensch (google it), a perfectionist, and has more integrity than any contractor I've ever met in my entire life. I am so grateful to Paul, Jose, and crew. The crew was friendly, proficient and experienced, the job site was always well managed and organized, clean-up was attended to everyday. Communication with Paul was always a snap. I had a leak that I was having trouble tracking down. I called Paul to see if he could come out and help. He informed me that he was booked solid but he could come out and take a look at it with me. He came out on a Saturday morning and talked through the leak giving me suggestions/his opinion (which was invaluable). He lead me in the right direction and I was able to fix my leak! Paul and all of his crew are very professional and easy to work with. We had a complete exterior remodel, which included removing all of the old siding, plywood, windows, etc. and installing new insulation, plywood, windows, and siding. The project took longer than estimated, but it never seems like any construction project (big or small) is completed based on the estimates. They also installed several new windows (Marvin Integrity windows- an excellent window for the price!) and a new entry door. I recently had Paul build a Fiberon Deck. He was always at the job site and gave great communication of the work schedule, costs, and material deliveries. He listened to my ideas and built the deck which I wanted while giving subtle suggestions and ideas. I would recommend him for any siding/window/deck jobs. One of the things which I appreciated was his knowledge of what things should cost, he battled Home Depot Pro on some brackets which were listed at $3.00, we eventually paid $1.60, not a big deal but on 100 brackets we saved $140.00. He had a good relationship with the guys at HD and was able to talk with them in a very frank manner when it came to prices. read more
