It's certainly off the beaten path and during our time here only saw three other people and only one other dog. And they were pretty far away. The beach is a little unusual if you're not from the area and is made of this very small (most pieces were 1/16th to 1/4 inch) smooth rocks. It was really nice to walk on. Right along the waterline are very jagged rocks that look pretty hard to walk on, so it's probably not the best beach to plan on going for a swim. Besides the water is cold. There's plenty of driftwood and larger rocks to check out. The path from the park is a little steep and it could be a little slick when it gets wet. The walk up and down the hill is worth it. If you don't feel like taking your dog down to the beach there's also a large fenced in dog park on the other side of the parking lot. It's pretty bad, but we didn't see this at first because we thought the beach was so cool. We saw more people and dogs in the enclosed dog area than we did on the beach. If we're in the area again we'd definitely go back.

Admission is a bit steep, at $30 for adults and $25 for seniors. No extra fees for dogs. The trails contained plenty of dog poop bags, trash cans, and restrooms. It is quite well maintained. The trees are massive and nice to look at the vast variety. The Redwood Canopy Trail was cool to explore and is pretty short. There is also a gondola that takes you to an observation deck, though you may not be able to see anything if it is foggy. There are a couple of audio tapes that explain stories behind some of the figures that were there. Last but not least, the gift shop at the very end had lots of unique goodies to commemorate your time here.

The parking lot is large, with space for plenty of cars and tour buses. There are multiple buildings on the property, with a very large gift shop (ended up buying some souvenirs here, including salt and pepper shakers made from redwood), a shop that sells homemade fudge, and a private shop that sells more high end artistic crafts and artifacts. The restrooms are in a separate building to the side. Today wasn't the right time to take the gondola ride (1,500 foot high over the forest floor) and trail hike ($30 per adult), so will need to try it some other time when we have more time and ability to hike.

Humboldt Lagoons State Park is on the Redwood Coast between Orick and Trinidad. There are three…read morelagoons - Big Lagoon, Stone Lagoon, and Freshwater Lagoon. These lagoons are a collection of landlocked waters right on the coast but protected from the Pacific Ocean. You can rent kayaks and paddleboards at Stone Lagoon Visitor Center. I stopped by Stone Lagoon to rest after a long day of driving to chill and relax.

Although smaller than the average dog park I'm used to, there is definitely enough room to play…read morefetch, run around and have fun ... for the dog of course ;) This fenced in area is mostly grassy with a few bare spots of dirt that could get muddy with rain. There are some trees for shade and two picnic tables (the city website says food is not allowed). They also provide water for the dogs, but I couldn't figure out how to turn on the spigot to fill the bowl. Maybe that's just user error! You can't see the Rogue River from the park, but you can hear it. There is a paved path nearby that will take you the 100 yards to overlook the rushing water.

But we hadn't been there more than five minutes before she was attacked by another dog. The owner, a middle aged balding white man, was sooo unconcerned that his dog attacked mine. My dog practically dragged me out of the park and back to my car.

It needs a little TLC...next time I go I'd just bring a trash bag and pick up a few little things...stuffing from well-used toys, headless doll (although dogs still love them like that)...and maybe a couple of the chairs that people have brought but which have seen better days. Still enjoyed it very, very much and there were two terrific pups that showed up mid-day while we were there who were great playmates for my pup. Parking right next to the bathrooms and kiddie park...walk beyond the kiddie park and there's the gate. Would totally go back.

Absolutely stunning county park encompassing a truly large lagoon, beaches, and a peat bog. Yes, a…read morepeat bog, which is home to native California orchids and carnivorous plants. The park is right next to the Big Lagoon Rancheria, a federally recognized Native American tribe since 1918. While I did not visit the Rancheria, there were signs advertising "Firewood for Sale" on the road to the reservation. There are so many signs all over the park about the dangers of swimming in the water that I would assume there have been multiple drownings at this location. Most of the recreation I saw was kayaking and paddle boarding rather than swimming. You can also launch your own boat here. The lagoon itself is calm and stunning; but once you venture out to open sea, the currents, rough surf and steep drop off lead to very dangerous situations. It's also in a tsunami zone, so there's that. Day use fee applies (cash or... check, remember those?). Clean restrooms and parking available. A concession was renting out kayaks the day I visited; not sure if that's always avaliable, though. The peat bog is to the east of the lagoon and worth a visit. Stunning location!

The restrooms aren't bad, unless you're high maintenance and need a clean restroom. For me, it's camping, you get what you get! If you expect luxury get a hotel. The camp host is accommodating and very nice. I would recommend bringing your own camp fire wood or getting it from a near by store because the camp fire wood that is sold by the camp host is sometimes too moist to start a fire.

What a stunning state park! I was headed up to Eureka and had actually never heard of this park…read more(being an Angeleno) when I decided to stop in. There is so much to see and do here! First of all, the scencery is absolutely stunning. It's pretty easy to drive through the park and pop out at scenic spots for a view of the ocean (such as Wedding Rock, so named as a beautiful spot for a wedding). There's also wonderful hiking, including the Rim Trail and the path down to Agate Beach. Also... beachcombing camping learning about the history of the area at the Visitor Center biking nature photography and much more! There is an entrance fee; however, if you avail yourself of the California State Park Library Pass, it's free! Either way, definitely worth a vist.

Spectacular view for a girl from LA…read more I planned a roadtrip to visit all the gloomy coastal cities up north and this park beach truly delivered. It is nothing like the beaches in SoCal which is everything that I wanted to experience. I enjoyed how cool the weather was and the smells of the clean, crisp air. It was just under $10 to visit for the day and we spent about an hour solely taking in the views. Overall, highly recommend if you are in this neck of the woods.
