I have always used Cress Floral Decorators for many years since it is close to my house. It has recently had new owners take over the business and I still went there to purchase a corsage for my son's Junior Prom to give to his girlfriend. I went there 5 days before the Junior Prom to order the corsage. The day of the Junior Prom, May 17th, I went to pick up the corsage. She tried to hand me a white corsage and I reminded her that I ordered a red corsage. She kept looking around to find the corsage and then proceeded to say, "It must be in the back." I waited some more. She came out from the back and said that the corsage is not ready. She said the florist was out making deliveries. She kept trying to call someone on the phone. She told me that they would make the corsage while I waited and she would have a worker make it. She asked me what I ordered. Mind you- I had it all written down on an order form. I reminded her and she said that she will give me 2 roses for the corsage and that she was doing me a favor. I waited 10 minutes and she came out with the UGLIEST corsage I ever saw in my life. 2 red roses with green tape wrapped like a Kindergarten child did it with the silver wristlet and silver material showing through the green tape. It was disgusting! I immediately said that I would not take that and I wanted my money back. She asked me for my credit card but I paid her in cash. She did refund me my money and I had to drive to another florist and get it done. Its terrible service, rude owners, not worth going there. I had to be inconvenienced the day of my son's Junior Prom. I would NEVER EVER use Cress Floral Decorators ever again. I received a beautiful corsage from 1-800 Flowers in New Hyde Park and would definitely recommend them! read more

My parents got their wedding flowers from here in 1979 when they were located in Woodside so it also had a more sentimental feel for me. From the second we walked in we felt so welcomed. The owner, Tommy, asked for a picture of my dress and instantly said he had the perfect color roses for mine and my bridal party's bouquets. Words cannot describe what a pleasure it was to plan our wedding with Tom and his staff at Cress. Every visit to their lovely store, we were greeted with smiles, refreshments and good spirits. Tom and Lori put together beautiful flowers for my wedding day. There were several instances of miscommunication with them regarding what I wanted and the final invoice (which was all easily remedied and taken care of), but all in all, we were very pleased with the outcome of the bouquet, boutonnieres, and flower brooches we ordered from them. I had a very specific and symbolic design in mind for my wedding bouquet consisting of 1 white Casablanca lily, 3 white calla lilies, green cymbidium orchids, and two-tone dendrobium orchids. After discussing my ideas with them, they advised me on how to best make my vision come to life, and also for the best price. I had originally wanted the inner layer with the Casablanca lily, followed by the 3 white calla lilies, followed by dendrobium orchids, and then the green cymbidiums. However, they advised me that the cymbidium orchids were much more expensive than the dendrobium orchids and that it would be best to have the cymbidium orchids as the third layer to use less flowers, and to make the outermost layer the two-tone dendrobium orchids. They also advised that this color scheme going from white to green to magenta would be the more visually pleasing, as well, rather than my prior vision of going from white to magenta to green. Tom and Lori were both honest and very helpful about how to best keep the cost low, while also producing a visually spectacular bouquet, which is admirable for a shop owner. Tom also gave us a great price for all the flowers we ordered and even gave me free dendrobium orchids for my hair consultation and also for my wedding day, which was greatly appreciated. To add to this, they were also very flexible and opened the shop at 6 AM for us so that my husband could go pick up the flowers, as our wedding was early in the morning in Brooklyn. This is it. Cress florist is THE SHOP that has popped my 5 star cherry. They deserve this 5 star 100%. I asked for a single-hand bouquet with red roses and white flowers to give to a girl I was going to ask to be my girlfriend. They wanted a price point and I told them $30. It ended up being a bit over $30 with tax but boy did it look good. My philosophy for places like flower shops is that you let them know what you want but not be too specific so that they can work their creativity into making you a nice arrangement. I used Cress Florist for funeral/sympathy flowers and was very pleased with what I saw at the funeral home. Sympathy flowers are a bit tricky because you don't get to see the final arrangement until they are delivered, and I had a disappointing experience once before when I used an online flower site for funeral flowers. But I was quite impressed by Cress Florist's wreath; the flowers looked fresh and were well-arranged. The colors Cress Florist had suggested for the wreath were spot on.
