    Lakewood Oaks Golf Club

For the lucky ones, Lakewood CC offers a wonderfully manicured layout, with several twists and turns golfers love. The layout was quite a bit more hilly than I was expecting, and shotmaking was at a premium, as almost every fairway is lined with with houses, roads, trees or water. As we found out, errant tee shots deliver roof thudding "bangs", my drives were all straight down the fairway...wink...wink...as the surrounding houses are big and beautiful...an interesting side note, several houses have fortified enclosures providing some degree of protection, yet very entertaining on the level of ingenuity, fashioned to erect them. The greens are decent sized, but roll like glass, which adds a level of skill our 4-some was missing. Bunkers are plentiful, and well maintained. The highlight of my round occurred on holes 5 and 6, both pars 3's. 100 yds over water, then 130 yds onto a peninsula. Very creative holes tucked between houses and water... I was lucky enough to be invited to a tournament and play this wonderful course, so if you ever get the chance, jump on it...

    The Historic Longview Mansion

We went to the Longview Mansion tonight (12/12/24) for Sip and Shop. It was a wonderful experience…read morewhere they open up this historic home. Visitation and fellowship during the holiday season. There were many people from all over town and our little area here in New Longview. My wife and I live is Kessler Ridge, so we drove less than five minutes to get to the mansion. We have been on the grounds many times before, but this was the first time we were able to visit the interior of the house. It is impressive and fun. There were lots of little pop-up shops set up inside the mansion, all on the main floor and then in a tent that extended from a sunporch on the back of the house. That was by far the biggest area to shop. The rest of the little pop-up areas were small and cozy inside the house. The staff was lovely and serving drinks, wine and food. We only had one glass of wine so we could drive home safely. We loved walking around the house, which everyone who attended was allowed to do with no drama and no supervision. Everyone I saw was super respectful of the property. Everyone we encountered was kind. It was a lovely evening. I hope they do it again next year so we can go.

I would not book here-simply because of the predatory practices they use to run this business…read more In June, we booked this venue for a wedding in October of 2027. In August, we found out we are expecting. Lovely news! In an effort to be responsible first-time parents, we decided to cancel the wedding and use our wedding money to prepare for our unborn child instead. We are still going to get married, but not at an expensive venue. We are trying to do right by our child and bring a human into this world in the most responsible way possible. On august 31, I emailed and informed the venue of our decision to cancel (over 13 months in advance). I inquired about a refund of the nearly $5,000 we deposited. It is extremely hard to get ahold of anyone (which you will see in other reviews), we are lucky to hear back once a week. Heather eventually responded, refusing to refund our money because "deposits are non refundable" because of expenses the business "incurs" by booking a date. We received no service from them. All we did was tour the venue, and deposit the required amount. We did not schedule or receive a tasting, pick out layouts/colors, decor, we never even met with our coordinator. So the argument that they need to keep our $5k for "expenses" is fake and predatory because we received NO services from them. They have refused to give me any detail on what those "expenses" are that they're supposedly using my money for (I wonder why). They haven't spent or lost any money on us. There's no reason to keep $5,000 of OUR money. Or even half of it. I understand how a business works. But with over a year to rebook, they have more than enough time to rebook our date (which is in the middle of peak wedding season). We are trying to do the right thing as parents and this business is taking full advantage of us. They want to keep our deposit, and re book the date so they can have their cake and eat it too. It's pure greed. A place that preaches love and family should really practice what they preach. Where is the humanity?
