Such an amazing farm experience. It's so much cleaner than most we have been to and at only $10 per person, well worth the money when you consider just how many animals you get to interact with. Awesome barnyard experience for families. I am from out of state and after visiting Critter Barn for the first time two years ago, my family made an effort to visit again on this trip even though we were staying at a VRBO a little further away. They have since changed their location to be further back on the farm property which I think is an excellent move as they now have a parking lot as opposed to parking on the road. They are in the process of building a large barn which will host many more animals, but for now there is still plenty to see. I think we were there for about 60-90 minutes with two toddlers and they stayed entertained the whole time. Goats, cows, pigs, donkeys, bunnies, and an assortment of other barnyard critters are kept on the property. My son especially enjoyed the opportunity to pet bunnies and baby chicks. There is pavement or worn paths connecting each barn so the place is pretty accessible to those in wheelchairs. You will have a great time here! read more

This little farm is so amazing!!! We were able to pet baby cows, sheep, piglets, and so many more. The staff was very nice and so welcoming. They even brought out a very sweet goat for the boys to get up close to. My two toddlers loved it! It was clean and they have a nice sandbox so the kids to finish up with. I took my parents and kids to the Critter Barn and we all had a wonderful time! Plenty of hands on exposure to animals, from holding 2-week old chicks to petting cats, rabbits, goats and a bunch of other animals. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, taking time to tell us about the animals and how they care for them. The facilities were clean and spacious with plenty of handwashing stations. I can't say enough about the Critter Barn and we will surely be back! read more

Perfect spot for kids of all ages. Drove up from Saugutuk. Worth noting, it was a very twisty drive. You can't wing getting here, but it's worth all the turns. Ample parking. Friendly reception area. Self-guided map. Clean barns. Friendly animals and great variety. Beautiful paintings within the barns of the animals. My toddler loved the baby chicken and bunny petting area. We have goats, so she also loved snuggling a baby lamancha goat. Gift store area (at entrance / exit) has toys and some eggs and chicken. My family and I had a great time at the Critter barn. There were different stations to interact with the animals: petting the bunnies, picking up the chicks, feeding the goats. Throughout the farm there are also plenty of portable hand washing stations in addition to an actual room with sinks of different heights inside the farm. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This is not a "petting zoo" as I first assumed. This is a farm that feels and smells like a farm. A farm where rain or shine, you can hold and feed a whole lot of animals. And it's essentially free, but don't be a tightwad. Donate some cash for the cause. I don't know which animal area I liked best. The room full of cats that my spouse deemed his personal version of Hell? (Don't listen to him.) The room full of bunnies of every size and breed? The chicks and ducklings? The baby goats you can hold and bottle feed at 12:30 every day? For city slickers, I absolutely loved our afternoon spent here. Reliving my childhood in farmland. I was like a kid in a candy store. Wow, what a fantastic facility. The grounds and facility are kept tidy. The animals are kept in clean caged areas but easy for you to interact with them. Some of them have indoor & outdoor access so weather is not an issue. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We took our 2 year old granddaughter and she was so intrigued with everything she saw. Entrance fees are very reasonable. I highly recommend it. We went on a weekday and it was not crowded at all. We spent several hours to see all of the areas. read more

Went when it was free and only asked for donations to now where I didn't even mind paying $5 for an individual or $20 for a family. They have lots of barn animals to pet. My family comes here every year when we vacation in Michigan. It's an absolute amazing spot. The kids love holding the baby chicks, petting the cats, feeding the goats, etc. It has easy parking and easy in/out whether for 15 minutes or 2 hours. Staff is friendly and helpful! I was really excited about visiting here after seeing it on Facebook and going to website. I was disappointed, we will not go back. The first thing you find is you have to park on the side of a busy road- not a parking area- side of a 2 lane highway. We went in September so there were not any baby animals to hold and see. There was one bunny in a pen that you could hold but this bunny did not want to be held. The first thing you see is chickens packed together in stacked cages- then for the rest of visit you see pictures of roasted chicken they want you to buy and take home- circle of life - I know- but still. Do not drive very far- not worth the time- my 4 year old liked the cats (one was interested in being petted- the rest were hiding or sleeping where they were out of reach) and bunnies- but after 30 minutes was ready to leave. read more

So much fun to visit as a family with 3 and 5 year old boys. The barn is "free" to enter but they request a donation which we gladly donated after thoroughly enjoying our experience as we explored the grounds. The highlights for our boys were all of the hands-on opportunities like holding chicks and rabbits and petting the goats and numerous other animals. Another neat experience was we watched as the employees and volunteers fed the animals. It was so cute to watch how excited the animals were to get their food. I would highly recommend calling ahead of your visit to see if the animals are on a feeding schedule and to arrive around that time. One negative - We arrived shortly after it opened and the parking lot was full. There is additional parking on the main road but were warned it can be dangerous and to use caution as we exited our vehicle. read more

You can watch sheep run (stampede? skip? some saunter, even...) to the pasture. If that's not enough reason to pay a visit to the Critter Barn, I don't know what is. Yes, if you arrive around 11am, you too can stand on either side of the path and watch the sheep run into the pasture for the day. It's the cutest thing ever, especially when you see the dog nudge them along. Beyond the sheep, though, the Critter Barn has a whole host of animals that both adults and kiddos can enjoy watching (and petting!)... -Horses -Chickens (hens and roosters) -Cows -Turkeys -Goats (loved the goats jumping from "house to house") There are plenty of porta potties, hand washing stations and drinking water (for humans!) to ensure a comfortable experience for all. Every staff member we chatted with was friendly and super knowledgeable about their animals. This is indeed a full functioning animal farm! I also read on their site that there are a handful of education programs/series available, so if you have a little one who is of proper age, I'd certainly look into that. The barn is free, but do yourself a favor and stick a few bucks per person in the donation bin. This farm is a real gem. read more

The Critter Barn is a great place to let your kid pet some things you will never own. On our visit my daughter pet ducks, held a baby chick, held a rabbit, pet a baby goat, snorted at pigs and tried to lick her hands numerous times. There are signs everywhere saying "no hands in mouth" but this crazy kid just doesn't listen (she can't read). Luckily there are sinks for just that purpose. Even as an adult this place is pretty cool. When was the last time you snuggled a little bunny? It's fun. Wash your hands, Don't let the animals lick your hands & make sure you leave a little donation for them since it's run on donations. read more

I took my nieces & nephews here because they all really like animals & I really appreciated the hands on aspect. We watched a pot bellied big do tricks, pet lots of different animals. Missed sheep shearing & goat feeding this time so I guess we will have to go back! They have a picnic area if you want to bring a lunch and make a day of it. If you have little ones, you must go here. My guys spent 3 hours here (would have been longer if it wasn't the end of the day!). Great variety of animals, such a wonderful experience for kids to hold bunnies and duckling and pet so many others. Hay buckets are inexpensive. It's free admission but I would encourage you to donate. It's a well run facility. As clean as you can get while having farm animals around. I didn't see hand sanitizer stations so would recommend bringing that. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but there was something really off about it. The more questions I asked, the sadder of a place it seemed. The wall of caged bunnies is not a temporary house for them...that's their whole life. The animals are not rescued. They are bought, bred, and sold. Baby goats are taken away from their mothers immediately and bottle fed so the milk can be fed to calves as well...and sold I think. It's certainly a cheap place to introduce your kids to animals, but I would not ever go back. read more

This place is great!!! I have been bringing my 2 daughters here during spring break for the past 5 years or so. We uave such a great time when we come!! The last couple of times we came, my mom came with us and she had a very fun time and enjoyed petting, feeding, snuggling and watching the animals as well as watching her grandkids enjoy themselves too! The staff at the Critter Barn has always been kind and helpful! If you get there at the right time of day, they even do demonstrations along with a little education lesson, which is always very interesting. We have been able to feed baby goats while petting and holding them. Afterwards, if the weather is nice, you can even watch the baby goats run outside, leaping and jumping and making everyone laugh!! The farm also has bunnies, adults and babies, chicks, ducklings, and cats that are all a hands on petting experience as well as all then other adult animals that can be petted through their enclosures. There are so many animals to see and things to experience, I can't list them all. We have fun here. We love it here. It's far better than any zoo you will ever go to....if you are a "hands on" kind of person like my family. Don't let the other semi negatives sway to in any way. This is a farm. It's going to be dirty, what do you expect?...but with that being said, for it being a farm, it is in my opinion very clean and well maintained. There are plans for anew location that will change things, I'm sure. There are new additions for the new location planned as well, so many improvements will be coming! You just have to go, experience this farm and see for yourself how wonderful of a place it is!!! read more

What a great place to bring the kids! We came to see the early tulips with our 4 and 2 year old daughters. Knowing that the flowers wouldn't keep the girls attention for the whole day, I found the Critter Barn online. My girls loved it here. There were bunnies on perches just waiting to be brushed and pet. My girls would have moved into the cat room if we let them. The cat room had several perches with giant, docile barn cats all sleeping and hanging out. We also loved the chick table. It was the first time we've gotten to hold a chick. There were pigs, goats, chickens, sheep, and much more. We stayed for about an hour and a half. This was an awesome addition to seeing the tulips and we'll definitely go back if we're in the area. The only thing I was confused about was if there was an entrance fee. There were signs stating that there was but there were also signs saying that they take donations. So we left a donation since there wasn't anyone at the ticket booth. read more
