I spent an entire day driving and calling around for a place for grooming for my dog. I only found out about them because I stopped for lunch at a restaurant and asked for a bowl of water for her. They were VERY inexpensive and did a great job, she looked amazing and smelled great when we picked her up. They offer Doggie Day Care, and boarding too, also for inexpensive fees, I loved the boarding when we had to leave for a family emergency, they took great care of her, and txted me updates on how she was while we were gone! read more

The owners have stayed late so that I could drop off my Achilles after hours. They have cameras installed and monitored so my Achilles was safe the whole visit. I delivered my dog, Griffin, to Critter Coiffures at 10 am on a sweltering July day with all confidence that he would be cared for, groomed, and protected from the elements. When I did not hear from them in six hours I went up there and immediately saw my 40 pound dog in a sweltering and depressing garage, confined inside a crate with three other dogs with no access to water or air conditioning and not even a fan to cool them down. He looked hot and confused, and he had not even yet been bathed. The conditions were inhumane for my dog as well as the others and I immediately took my dog from the crate and went inside and asked for an explanation. She commented that he had not been in there very long. So where had he been for six hours? I would not recommend anyone use this service and in closing I would recommend that she have her groomers license as well as dog-boarding license revoked because she is definitely not an advocate for animals. read more

This place is horrible... I Took my dog there... Thought they were friendly... But boy was I wrong... One the people they have employed there are NOT professionals... These are people they can pay the cheapest... My dog went there and basically I go to pick him up after not even being called that he was ready?? Fishy... Do as soon as I walk in yes your dog is very excited to see you but my dog ran straight to me fear in his eyes ears tugged back and wanted me to pick him up.. He clung to me fir his life... I made eye contact with the woman who supposedly owns this place.. And she didn't say one thing then her daughter says has your dog ever had seizures? I said no she said oh we thought it was normal... So we didn't call you. I was in such shock if my 1 year old puppy having a seizure that I just left they never would tell me exactly when it happened they just said he was fine after a while... They never even called me to tell me my dog had a seizure... I think they knew I would come pick him up and they wanted their money. I could if taken him to the vet yesterday but I had to wait til this morning.. My dog cannot blink now I mean there are so many diagnostics test that need to be done but I can't afford so we just started him on the medication.. I cannot prove that this was their fault but the fact that they didn't call me immediately is crazy!!! Then I told her that it was very unprofessional and careless of her to not call me immediately after... And she blew up a cussed me out a d tried to make me feel bad about myself which clearly didn't work my dog was completely healthy and then I take her to this place and this happens.. Yes it could be neurological but the principal is they handled this situation poorly and acted like I was in the wrong.. Do not take your pet here ever... I finally find a groomer that I love and I don't even live here :) :(. I was in a jam, total emergency case and no one would take me except them and they were full but she said "come in any way". To me that is priceless because you know sometimes the unexpected just happens and you need help. When I got there I was so happy that no one else could take me. I just love these guys. It was a whole family working together even the kids. They took my daughter and let her play with the pups up for adoption. The dogs are so busy and playing and sometimes the ones that have been there for a while get funkadelic hair cuts and colored dyes Just to keep things interesting. I mean why not!!! That tells me they get special love and treatment to let them know they are family!! I will say that I'm not happy to go home but I won't find a place like this at there :( Thank You guys for making our day fun and bright and getting us out of a messy trouble. read more

I brought my dog here back in June when he was just adopted and I was very disappointed when I learned the type of shampoo and conditioning spray this facility used when I picked up my dog. They used human shampoo and a bed bath and body works spray on his coat!! We were very disappointed and it is unlikely we will return. read more

I can't help but notice how manufactured the previous reviews appear. I do not recommend this place unless your animal has the ability to take care of itself unsupervised. Don't use especially if your pet has any special requirements bc those will be totally ignored. Grooming is pretty satisfactory but do not board your pet overnight. read more

We recently moved to Columbia, so we were very excited to find a new boarding facility that is locally owned; however, what promised to be a positive experience went sour in the end. We boarded our dogs here in December, and my husband even went to check the place out in advance. The young woman he met with was polite and really seemed to enjoy the dogs and her business, so we decided to go ahead with the plans to board them there. We travel frequently, so it truly was our hopes to have this become our go to place. The day we took our dogs in, we also took in a brand new 26# bag of Wellness Core Grain Free dog food, as well as some grain free treats. The bags were labeled with our dogs' names and their feeding amounts. We also provided the measuring scoop for their food. We made it very clear that our dogs--especially our German Shepherd--were not to be fed anything other than their food and treats. We informed them our German Shepherd is highly allergic to corn and gets festering ear infections when she eats corn based foods. They assured this would not be a problem. During the time we were gone, we called daily to check on the dogs, and each time we were assured they were doing well. When we went to pick the dogs up, we were quite surprised that next to the counter, in the same exact place we left it, sat our unopened bag of dog food. We asked the young lady that was there why the food wasn't opened, and she replied, "Oh we just fed them all the same thing. This way you don't need to buy more food!" We didn't say anything for a second, and then she asks, "Oh, does one of them have an allergy?" We stated that our German Shepherd does and that was why we supplied their food you promised to feed them. She asked us what the allergy was, and we told her corn. She then tells us "not to worry" because "they feed a good food that doesn't have corn in it." We asked her what it was, but she didn't tell us. We paid our bill and left. When we got home, we noticed our German Shepherd was shaking her head a lot (she always does this if she has an infection setting in), and rubbing her ears on the carpet. We called Critter Coiffures and asked what food was fed. They finally told us Iams. The number three and number six ingredients in Iams are corn. We questioned why our dogs weren't fed their food because now our German Shepherd likely has an ear infection. The young woman on the phone didn't know what to say, but she wasn't rude either. The real problem began when the old woman got on the phone. She was belligerent and rude refusing to discuss the issue with us. She demanded the name of our vet--the only assumption we can arise to with this is because she was worried about being billed. She ultimately just hung up on us and refused to discuss the matter with us. Now, we may be wrong, but we would think that we have a right to know why our dogs were not cared for in the manner we were promised and paid for. We are not seeking to recoup the money we lost having to pay for a vet visit and ear medicine. We just want answers, and honestly, an apology would be nice--it is the decent, honorable thing to do. We filed a complaint with the Consumer Department of Columbia and the Better Business Bureau in an attempt to get answers, but they have refused to answer either one of those complaints as well. The unprofessional attitude and total disregard for a customer has left us no choice but to make sure others are aware of this business and their lack of integrity. I love taking my dog here. The facility is always clean. The staff is willing to work with you if you need to board your pet at last minute. All of the other animals appear to have a good temperament. I like how my dog isn't put in a kennel, she can roam free around the facility. The staff is always friendly and they always give me good feedback about how my pets visit was. I've recommended Critter Coiffures to all my friends. read more

I left my 11 pound dog with this groomer, and within an hour he was dead. The groomer either placed him or allowed him to get into an enclosure with a boxer known to be aggressive toward small dogs. The autopsy report of the horrors my dog suffered literally made me vomit. I am still in shock at the ungodly carelessness - the negligence. I am still grieving my beautiful and loving little friend. Until this happened, I did not know that dog grooming and boarding is completely unregulated in South Carolina. Anyone can open this type of business, with or without training. I am writing this review in case other people, like me, are using Yelp in their search for a good kennel. This review does not pertain to their grooming services. I am currently visiting many similar places in Columbia to find the right one for my dog, and this was by far the dirtiest, least professional, and most questionably legal place I have seen-- so much so that I felt it was important enough to make this account and speak about it here. If the business owner reads this, I fully welcome her contact and explanation. The man there had very little information for me, could barely answer my questions, and asked me none of the questions I expect a boarder to ask a new client. I dropped by this morning to have a look around their facility and was absolutely shocked by what I saw. There were a bunch of dogs in a small outside enclosure. The man working there, who was friendly enough but acting oddly and who had very little information to offer, said that he puts them outside at 7:30am when he gets there. He said they do not come back inside until 6:30pm. The enclosure that I saw was a small yard and porch, mostly shaded, but summers are incredibly hot here. I immediately knew that I would not feel comfortable having my dog stuck outside for the entire day. If you drive by, this area is street side and you can see it for yourself. Going inside, the first room is like a garage with a bunch of crates. There is a parrot there, too. The next room is rather like a filthy living room, with their grooming area, some couches, and a bunch of animals all together. Several large and small dogs, a dozen or so adult cats, and I don't know how many kittens, are all together in this main room. There is a closet-like space where they keep ferrets. The only person working there was a man; the only other person present was a boy, probably his son (which I think is nice, but with that many animals there should be more than one adult supervising. Most other places have had someone either in the play area with the dogs or who passes through to check on them). He did not have an application and could not tell me much about it. When I asked about how many dogs tend to stay there, he said "50-60." Let's hope he misunderstood my question. When I asked if my dog would be inside at times with all these free-roaming cats and kittens, he said, "We have dogs stay inside if they're sick or something" and then also told me that the dogs go outside when he gets there in the morning and stay out there the entire day. No breaks. I don't think any creature should have to stay outside all day in a South Carolina summer! He also said that small and large dogs are all together. I left with deep concerns. It is my impression that dogs are largely ignored here. I did not have the impression that he cared much, and it distinctly felt like he was feeling "caught" and hoping I wouldn't come back. I also do not think they are very strict about vaccines, etc. He was super vague when I asked him about what proof they needed. Some of the kittens looked really unhealthy, and overall it was just an overwhelming number of animals in a small space. It is a very cheap service, and for that reason alone, I am sure they get many clients; however, this is the best real life example of "you get what you pay for" I have ever seen. Please visit this place in person, when they are not expecting you, if you are at all considering using them for grooming or boarding services. It is possible that I simply caught them on a very bad day, but it was such a shocking experience that I am never going back-- and I am making sure I bring in my camera to all future places that I am checking out, because I am definitely taking my concerns about this facility to Columbia's Animal Services (something I've never done in my life- as well as never reviewing anything on here- but this was so disturbing!) and wish I had photographic proof of what I witnessed today. When reading reviews, I typically ignore people's bad reviews because I like to think they are being dramatic and unfair. But after my dog stayed at this place, I will try to deter as many people possible from taking their dog here. My dog only stayed for 1 full day and 1 night and I was really excited about how reasonable the price was for how awesome this place seemed to be. The beginning of my experience is just as interesting as the end: 1.) I was greeted by three 12 year old girls when I dropped my dog off- no adult around. Where the hell were these kids parents? One little girl actually took my dog's food and was trying to find paperwork for me to fill out. After asking where the adult was, she ran and brought in a guy that didn't seem to have any clue what was going on. This is when I started to get skeptical, but the guy told me that the owner would be in soon so I started to think maybe it was just a crazy day and she would come in to rescue and save the place. 2.) I made sure to tell both the little girl about my dog's sensitive stomach and his food schedule (I thought maybe she was really mature?) I also told the one adult AND I wrote very clearly on his food container what his schedule was. I even wrote a little star at the bottom on his schedule reminding AGAIN, that he will get explosive projectile diarrhea if his diet is messed up. 3.) I called to check on my dog the next morning, and the woman was very unfriendly and rude when I asked how he was doing. Whatever, I thought, maybe I woke her up or something so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. No- I called when I got there and the door was locked (I couldn't get in) and once again I would have thought I called her in the middle of a colonoscopy or something. To sum this section up: whoever this lady was was so rude and unprofessional. 4.) When I pulled up to pick my dog up, he was outside in the POURING FREEZING RAIN with 4 other dogs. When I walked up he was shivering/soaking wet and crying. OK I thought, maybe he has been really bad (I was pissed but I really try to reason with people) Note: I think that is animal abuse. I asked the confused young guy working how my dog had been and he said, "Great, playful." Awesome- so there is no reason for him to be outside. 5.) NOW Let's talk about his food. He had enough food to feed him for 4 days- THERE WAS NO FOOD LEFT IN HIS CONTAINER. When I asked the young, confused guy where his food went, he said "Uh I don't know." YOU DON"T KNOW? Not only did my dog not get to eat lunch before our 2 hour drive home, but he was soaking wet and obviously dehydrated. He sprinted so fast out of that place that I actually thought he saw a squirrel around my car or something. (No squirrel, just wanted to get the hell out of that place). 6.) HERE IS THE FUN PART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My dog woke up me up every hour last night with explosive projectile diarrhea that could fill up a pool. He won't touch his food, won't eat anything, and just sleeps in between those squirting spells. ** I have called the lady 3 times now and left a message. I have yet to get a call back. This place is a joke and I am calling the better business bureau as soon as I get done posting this review on every site I can find. Please do not let your dog stay here, they definitely do not deserve a fraction of their good reviews. read more
