The feeling of serenity here was top-notch (although to be fair I would imagine that to be mostly due to the season, as I could see that aspect waning when the campground is busy as there isn't a lot of privacy between some sites.) We really enjoyed the night. Two notes, however. I was surprised to see the lack of a trail system in such a location. And, the camp hosts we approached for info didn't seem to be very informed. Campsites were clean and well-maintained. It can get pretty hot during the day, and some areas are a bit crowded in peak season, but overall a great place to unwind and enjoy nature.

The area was very well-maintained with hardly any graffiti, which was a pleasant surprise. We were able to explore four of the six caves, and it was a fantastic adventure. Some of the entrances were a bit tricky, but it made it all the more exciting. Walking completely through one of the caves, entering on one side and exiting on the other, was a definite highlight and a really unique experience! ​A few tips for future visitors: don't rely on your phone's flashlight--you'll need something more powerful to really see the caves. Sturdy shoes are a must for navigating the rocky terrain, and be sure to watch your head! The rocks are very unforgiving, as we learned with a one pretty good bump on the head. We highly recommend this spot for a fun and memorable family outing!

My nine and thirteen year olds worked the bikes with no problems and they zip around the water in the beautiful central Oregon sunshine easy peasy. Would definitely recommend reserving them ahead of time because this is one of those new things that's going to get very popular.

Otter Bench is a scenic hiking trail located on BLM land at the north end of Crooked River Ranch…read more Running parallel to Otter Bench for most of its length lies the Horny Hollow Trail, which runs closer to the river but is closed for wildlife restoration from February to August. Both trails parallel the Crooked River as it makes its way downstream to join the Deschutes and Metolius Rivers at Lake Billy Chinook. As with all rivers and creeks in Central Oregon, the Crooked has cut deep canyons into the overlying lava, creating spectacular vistas. After just under two miles, Otter Bench takes you right up to the canyon, joining the short Pink Trail that descends steeply down to the river. From there, you have the option to continue north on the somewhat longer Opal Canyon Trail. Other than the steep decent to the river - which is not necessary to enjoy this trail - Otter Bench is a fairly easy, flat hike. Trailhead is at the end of SW Horny Hollow Dr/SW Chinook Dr. From Hwy 97, drive as if you're going to the Crooked River Ranch Golf Course and keep driving until the road ends.

We moved right across the street from this amazing little park and I used to shoot rockets and race RC cars here before I made any friends (I'm pretty sure the RC cars and Rockets didn't help much with that haha). For a small town, this park is pretty good size. There are playgrounds, a baseball diamond and basketball courts with some stores right across the street. The parking lot is pretty big and there are drinking fountains here as well. There is very little crime in this neighborhood and the only encounter I have ever had with the police here was having my RC car clocked on their speedometer! If you are ever in Culver it is definitely worth stopping by and checking out this little park.

This has got to be the best animal interaction tour or petting zoo on the planet. It may not be the most sophisticated, fancy or elaborate "zoo" but if you love animals (or have kids who love animals) and enjoy hands on, petting, holding unique animals, then this place is for you. Although it's a little over 3 hours from Portland, it's well worth the trip. Upon arrival, part along the side of the road and enter the small swinging gate and check in at the table. There's a single restroom available where the birds are housed. GR also has a small gift shop with stuffed animals and other unique small gifts available for purchase. For 2 hours, Mamma Rose provided us with a tour where we got to see, feed, touch and interact with a zebra named Maverick, multiple kangaroos including one named Margaret, llama named Saul, a Meisha pig named Daisy. And that doesn't include the myriad of birds, holding various reptiles (including a baby armadillo), tarantula, holding and feeding baby joey's, emu's, and feeding an albino porcupine and tortoises. She even has a Patagonian Cavy. On a side note, bring your own water and be patient as animals are shared amongst the group, especially if you have a larger group.

The stunning Central Oregon crisp sunrise was picture perfect, as we trusted pilot Darren and…read morechaser Garrett from Big Sky Balloon Company take our godson on a "bucket list" moment 2,000 feet over Terrebonne and Crooked River with unparalleled views of the Cascade Mountains that became snow capped over the past couple of days. We marveled at a new viewpoint of Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top, the three Sisters (Charity, Hope and Faith), Mt. Washington, Black Butte, Three Fingered Jack, Mt. Jefferson, and Mt. Hood... we even saw Mt. Adams in Washington state. All white with new snow. Even the view on the imposing Smith Rock from the high vantage point was spectacular. Garrett asked me to help inflate the 180,000 cubic foot balloon, and having this hands-on experience was kinda cool. This flying (or floating) in a hot air balloon experience was epic!!! But what made this 5-star, was the crew. Darren and Garrett were so welcoming, knowledgeable, and really made this memorable based on how they treated their passengers. Darren answered all the crazy questions in flight, with a genuine smile and rich answers. Garrett's hugest asset is his personality, humor, and enthusiasm. He had us cracking-up with laughter from start to finish. If you want a balloon flight, I am sure there are multiple options.
