I am certainly glad I was wrong about that, and after one workout I was hooked. The trainers are excellent at modifying moves for beginners or if you have any physical limitations. The team atmosphere and the workouts are like nothing I have ever experienced at any other gym. This place motivates you to get better and work harder every time you walk through the door, something that I wasn't getting at my regular gym. I would typically wander around doing a little of this and a little of that and convincing myself that it was better than nothing. I guess that would be true if I was in the shape that I want to be in, but I am not. At Crossfit the workouts are laid out for you and the atmosphere makes you push yourself to a level that you didn't even know you had. I had allowed myself to slowly and methodically self destruct. Goals became punch lines or fluffy wish lists. I became sad, incredibly sad, I isolated myself from friends and family. I drank and ate everything and anything I wanted without a thought, and I piled on over 130lbs of debilitating fat. At times I felt worthless and hopeless. I walked into the doors of Crossfit free anxious and desperate, but choosing to walk through those doors has led to a series of unexpected and amazing changes. Brandon Peterson, Justin Homsey and the rest of the coaching staff welcomed me into the box with open arms. On my first day, I was literally greeted by everyone in the box. I enrolled into the on-ramp program in order to ease my transition from couch potato expert to CrossFit newbie. The on ramp program was fantastic. The coaches led small group classes three times a week to other beginners to go over the basic movements, and most importantly they were able to set their expectations of CFF athletes. After my two week on-ramp, I dove into the classes and I haven't looked back. Everyday is programmed and carefully planned. If there is a movement you can't do yet there is always a scalable option that will help you develop the ability to do more. CFF is so much more than a gym. This is a family of people with common goals and a common ethos. This is a community that celebrates first place finishers and cheers on the last place finisher with rivaled enthusiasm. This is a community that understands health, fitness, and athletesism are the keys to longevety, and that they can only be attained through hard work and dedication. This is a community that struggles shoulder to shoulder with the aim of simply being better than yesterday. Six months in, I have lost a total of 95lbs. I have rediscovered my enthusiasm for life, and I am developing long and short term goals (and reaching them!!). Tara responded promptly to my request for information about being a drop-in visitor ($20 fee, have your home coach send us a note with any training concerns, & please being a T shirt from your home gym ... All good info !!) and last Wednesday, I found myself here ! I felt VERY welcome, the coach introduced himself & made sure I knew what was going on, where to warm up, etc. Dave, the owner, also came over & said hello. I met some fun people, had a great workout, and would definitely return here if I am in the area again. The space is well laid out, all the equipment was familiar to me - standard Rogue boxes, etc - and the gym appears, to me anyway - to be run by professional, safe & sane folks who exemplify what I want Crossfit up be. After giving birth to burrito last year Phil and I rediscovered our love for food on the Northshore. We realized we were eating out almost every day and decided to capitalize on it by documenting our meals and experiences. The more restaurants we visited and reviewed, the more we wanted to share with our friends and family. This quickly became part of our routine. After doing this for several months, I realized this was supper counterproductive to losing the baby weight and overall health. I started going for 30min walks every day, and when that became super boring, I signed up for planet fitness, and when that didn't yield any results, I started taking yoga classes sporadically. I wasn't able to keep up with any of these for one reason or another, so I decided to move on to something new. As our blog grew and the length of time I spent on Instagram increased, I started to notice this gym pop up on friends' pages or in my feed sometimes in other friends' stories. White wolf seemed to be sending me subliminal messages. I spent weeks creeping and basically stalking their content before I finally decided to DM Joe, the owner. He invited me in to do a 2-week, and the rest is history. Phil and I are still working out some kinks in our routine, and the struggle to attend classes consistently is still there. But there's nothing like taking one of Joe's classes. This gym is the embodiment of Cross training. And Joe always keeps it interesting. I have yet to be bored or come out of a class feeling like I wish I never came. What does happen is your motivation is ignited. I'm continually hearing other members talk about how much stronger they are since coming here or sharing words of encouragement to stick with it and be consistent results will occur. The "Box" is more the size of a football field than any Box I have seen before (save for CF OBX, which is massive too). Chase (owner?) was very responsive to my e-mails about coming in and treated me just like the regulars when it came to giving pointers and motivating me to push myself. They have pretty much every piece of equipment you could ask for. I look forward to going back again!
