"CrossFit?!?! what am i some toolbox who carries a gallon of water around with him and posts mirror selfies? " was my initial reaction while I was driving to CFCI's free trial class (Wednesdays or Fridays.) luckily i found parking instantly and had run out of excuses to turn around.Walking in i was greeted by the most friendly, bearded man who today i know as "Coach Elie." we walked down to the white board and he started pointing to different equipment from their wide array of high end apparatus. The class had begun and we started warming up and stretching muscles in my body i didn't even know existed; and i must say it felt spectacular. As my "classmates" and I made our way over to the board to hear a clear explanation of the W.O.D (workout of the day) with visual demonstrations along with efficient and helpful advice to maximize the workout while avoiding fatigue...before i knew it the large display clock that hangs over the original artwork of local artist starts to countdown and the conditioner part of the workout begins. i lift my "wall-ball" and start my 25 reps...about 20 reps later i begin to slowly regret my decision and Now I'm really glaring at the front door thinking "alright time to make a run for it" but before i could even stand up i'm being cheered on my every single athlete in the box. I felt like an All-Star but when i looked around i was the only person NOT finished. it was confusing to me but oddly enough extremely motivating. 6 months later I'm 60lbs. thinner and every ounce i've gained recently has been of pure muscle. I must publicly thank the coaches at CFCI; because it's more than just a 1 hour class. they are dedicated to helping you improve and to constantly help you live healthier. From their well organized website to the private athlete group where one can network and get constant feedback on their workouts. I've always been intrigued with CrossFit but was always too intimidated to ever try it out even though I was a gym junkie. My friend, a CFCI member, was always badgering me to come to a trial class so finally after a year I gave it a shot... and now I'm hooked! CFCI is not like an ordinary gym where the same, typical exercises and routines are expected. Here there is some new challenge to look forward to daily. The highly qualified, professional and definitely very funny and personable coaches are so encouraging and helpful to me. The olympic lifts are extremely technical and challenging for me and all the coaches are so patient, continuously watching how I execute the lifts and offering techniques on how I can better understand each movement and the mechanics involved. I still have a very long way to go but being surrounded by motivating coaches who applaud my efforts and also by supportive fellow members (training partners) has inspired me to continue to try harder and harder each time. I'm on a mission now and am compelled to one day be able to do a snatch and a clean with "perfect" form! CFCI is a place where someone at any athletic level can feel "at home" knowing they will get better mentally and physically every day. Elie, the head coach of CFCI, is an extremely experienced athlete and possesses both superior coaching skills, and technical skill in weightlifting, powerlifting, and cardiovascular endurance training. His partner Joe, and the rest of the CFCI staff are equally as competent and always make members feel right at home. The facility has everything you would expect to see in a crossfit gym: tons of bumper plates, an array of different barbells, wooden weightlifting platforms, rings, a huge pull-up rig, ropes for climbing, and so on. I have been training at this facility since its grand opening just over two years ago, and I'm looking forward to many more years training with the staff and members of Crossfit Coney Island! I was always an active person but would get bored within 3-4 months of the same kind of workout. I would constantly move from studio to studio to keep the workouts exciting and fun until I took a free class at Crossfit Coney Island. I intended to come in on weekends only but that quickly changed to 4-6 times a week. I was hooked. I have never repeated the same workout twice and I have been here for over a year! I feel stronger than ever and it's all thanks to the coaches at CFCI and it's members for encouraging and motivating me daily to be a better athlete. CrossfFit Coney Island introduced me to Crossfit about 2 years ago, and I have been hooked ever since. To some Crossfit may be very intimidating. But after taking one of their "Free- introductory class" it was clear to me what all the hype was about. The coaches here are very smart and make you feel comfortable right away. Not only do they offer varied functional movements performed at high intensity levels, but they offer you the knowledge behind each movement. They do not ask you to do anything they don't think you are capable of. Whether it be a gymnastic movement, or an Olympic lift the coaches at CFCI know how to modify everything for each specific athlete. I've been an athlete my entire life. I've played all types of team sports, but working out never interested me that much. Going to a local gym was boring to me unless I was there with a group of friends and as you get older having your group stay on the same workout schedule is nearly impossible. In the summer of 2015 CrossFit Coney island came into my life and I am light years a head of where I was physically back then. All of the coaches there are top notch. All the members are incredible as well. No matter the time of day I can walk in there and workout with a bunch of friends and since I love team sports I consider them my teammates. I randomly found this gem one day when I was walking on the subway platform. At that time a month from my wedding, I was looking for something extra to do to be more toned for the big day. So I Convinced my best friend to take a free class with me and the rest is history. One year later, I am still learning new things every time I go and have definitely grown as an athlete, a word that I have not used to describe myself since high school. All of the coaches here are so passionate about what they do and do a very good job in programming and teaching athletes of all levels. I have been attending CFCI since the first week it opened. Not only has it changed my life physically, but it has introduced me to such a beautiful crowd of people and personalities. This gym isn't like any other gym you have attended. Everyone becomes family instantly, everyone encourages and motivates one another. I used to dread schlepping to the gym after work, only to see zero results from the boring treadmill. I've been with Crossfit Coney Island since the beginning. When I first started I was a bit over weight and out of shape but thanks to the wonderful coaches and with the right diet I began to shed the pounds I started getting into tremendous shape because of the different WODS (workout of the day) that were handed out everyday I was taught to use weights correctly for stuff such as power lifting and Olympic lifting as well as cardio and gymnastics they would always help me get through the workout when I felt like giving up. I've met a lot of wonderful people since I started almost 2 years ago we would push each other through the workouts and cheer one and other on. I came to this place before they even opened....met all the coaches and people helping get the place together... I joined and started foundations classes and made friends with the best people ever... the original foundations members...LOL...now we are HOMIES 4 LIFE...LOL. the coaches are great and knowledgeable and pretty to look at ...
