They make it easy to fall in love with it. Equipment 10/10 - their scheduling allows each member to have all the equipment needed for every class. Gym Members 10/10 - helpful, motivating, inspiring and encouraging. You may just meet your best friend here. Location 9/10 - super easy to get to, close to a park, restaurants, and night life. Only thing is parking can be tough at times but it is free street parking. The gym in general 10/10. They really make you feel welcomed and show you they care. There is structure, organization and showers if you need to head out after a workout. Gyms time management is great. They always start on time and end on time. I've been doing CrossFit for over five years now and work requires me to travel all over the world. Out of all the boxes I've been a member at or even just dropped in at, CFEP has been the best all around. The gym is clean, well structured, well managed, and organized. All the coaches are helpful, knowledgable, and just plain fun! The programming is always on point and there are tons of community events to be a part of...you'd be silly to go anywhere else. I did small-group training (FOCUS) with Olivia, who happens to be both very f*cking good at her job and a very good hang who makes it very easy to get up for class. Oh, Crossfit Echo Park... if there were a 10-star button, I'd click it without an ounce of hesitation. Having recently moved to the Westside, I've had to join a new gym and leave CFEP (holding back the tears...). In my 7 years of doing CrossFit, I can say that there have been pros/cons of every place - but CFEP is simply knocking it out of the park and I'm struggling to find much to criticize. The space is large, well laid out, and incredibly clean. The equipment is high quality and well-maintained. They have showers and provide shampoo, soap, and even hair ties and deodorant! They carry a good selection of snacks and drinks, which really comes in handy when you're short and time and didn't get a quick bite before arriving. In additions to group CrossFit and 1:1/personal training, CFEP offers unique specialty classes (breathe work, booty class, nutrition, kids CrossFit, and so much more). The coaches are the heart and soul of this place and it is very apparent that they hire quality people who are not only exceptional coaches, but who fit the warm and supportive culture that they've fostered. Managers, Jason and Lauren, couldn't possibly do a better job! At the 545pm class I went to, I was most often with Manny or Vincent and cannot speak more highly of them. They take the time to get to know everyone personally and work with those who are just beginning CrossFit or those who need additional assistance to modify their workouts due to physical limitations. CFEP is a place you can go if you're just beginning or if you're an advanced athlete. There's no intimidation or weird bro-culture. It's a culturally diverse and positive space for people to develop their own personal goals and create some great friendships along the way. If I ever move back to the east side, I'll be renewing my membership on day one! read more

I. Love. This. Gym. I have been a member since July of 2022 and I will admit I knew NOTHING about what CrossFit was when I met with Coach Mac back then. I had never trained with weights and my fitness journey had been largely a solo affair: hot yoga, running, walking everywhere. I saw "gym" and knew I needed something new and that I needed to be guided in a friendly space. That day I had my free workout, I told Coach what I imagine a lot women say: "I don't want to bulk up and I don't want to do squats." He kindly told me, "You won't bulk up and you WILL do squats." I tried to hate him right then and there but he also was so motivating and I liked his friendly, open demeanor. He assured me I would be welcomed and the 15 minute workout left me like jelly, so I signed up. I trained initially with Coach Lauren on Elements and, not going to lie, I wanted to cry at the thought of picking up a barbell. It was so foreign to me--never had anyone asked me to pick up something that I unknowingly associated with hyped up masculinity--it was very intimidating and confronting. But she was encouraging and I kept at it. The physical challenge was real and the mental hurdles were even realer, but I keep learning something every time I go. The coaches here are amazing: Coach Kadyr, Coach Manny, Coach Adrian, Coach Lauren and Coach Pete are the ones I take regularly and they really know how to scale for your fitness level and this has been key to me returning time and again. Plus, they are so encouraging and fun, accessible and personable. I am 55 years old, so I know I am the oldest person in most any class I take, and I am often at the bottom of the leaderboard. But the Coaches always see me and encourage me, hold me back when I am overextending and push me when they see I can go a little further. I have had no injuries and always feel ok working at my own pace. The community is down to earth and welcoming and I have enjoyed working out alongside them. Coach Mac and his team put a lot of effort into fun, inclusive events that foster connection. I have loved getting to know everyone and am so grateful to CFEP for being so much more than a "gym". read more

Free parking within the building, upbeat current music, and a circus strongman logo mask CrossFit Sunset for what it really is: a torture chamber of PE to the nth degree. They even have monkey bars, a locker room, showers, and a couple water fountains that transported me back in time to my most dreaded class, the only subject I failed in my otherwise stellar academic career. There is a sizable shelf in the main gym to stash belongings for easy access- I was able to squeeze in my giant purse and a large Lululemon tote. Bottled water and my FAVORITE Taste Nirvana coconut water were also available for purchase. To sum things up, Crossfit Sunset kicked my ass so I can pig out guilt-free this Thanksgiving. The supportive and knowledgeable trainers will push and critique without being condescending. Brand spanking new kettlebells, lumbar support cushions, gymnast rings, among other S&M equipment fill the spacious dungeon, er, facility. The workouts were tough but they were always there to coach through. I went with my partner and was super impressed how they were able to provide support and feedback for both of us, even though we're coming in at different levels and needs. Often they were so friendly and welcoming that I forgot how hard the workouts were! I love this gym. The instructors are super knowledgeable and friendly. I like that they have outdoor classes in the morning and evening. The WODs build on each other so you are able to see clear gains. The gym is very well kept. First time doing crossfit in my life and after going here for 3 months now, I want to give 5/5. The best thing I like about this gym is that all the coaches are so friendly and willing to help passionately. I bothered them a lot with questions about correct forms for doing weight lifting but every coaches were willing to watch my forms, correct them, and help answer anything I didn't know. They are like willingly searching for things to help you with during class. For example, choosing appropriate weight you can handle, postures, how to stretch, workout recovery tips, how to get rid of pain on certain body parts after work out, etc. To summarize, Cool things about this gym: 1. Coaches are willingly looking for things to help you. Coach Jason and Lauren are the ones I worked out most with and they were encouraging for me! Much appreciate them! 2. Community All the members are so friendly and they have such an encouraging, open, and welcoming community, and I feel like coaches are good at setting up such environment. And people here are genuinely nice people. What's better than spending an hour a day working out with nice, positive-vibe people? 3. They don't force you to do something you can't handle. Thanks to last week's Yelp Event, I was able to try out a CrossFit workout: 400m run 40 squats 30 sit-ups 20 box jumps 10 push-ups 5 burpees 400m run Think YOU can do it? In 10-15 minutes? Ready, set, go! I had heard a lot about CrossFit, and seen it on tv, but this was my first real exposure. And man, it kicked my butt! I too wanted to throw up after, even though we only worked for a (hard) 10 minutes. I was glad the trainers went through each exercise and demonstrated how they wanted us to perform. For the life of me, I did not know what a burpee was, even though I had done them at some point in my life. I loved the space of the gym, and the logo too! I don't see myself joining a gym solely focused on CrossFit, but I do plan to spread the word about it! I had a bit of trouble finding the location. I passed it twice before I realized where it was (next to a car wash). The location is very new and clean, and there is parking garage. Staff is nice and friendly. They've even got a place to stash your stuff! (And bathrooms are clean and spacious - always a plus in my book!) Thank you CrossFit for expanding my horizons! read more

EXACTLY what Echo Park and Silver Lake need! Do you want to get in the best shape of your life? Do gyms bore you or are you the type that goes for an hour and barely breaks a sweat? Then you have to get your butt over to Crossfit Sunset. I met Coach Ty and Coach Andyy at Crossfit Hollywood and they are both incredibly motivating. I'll admit, I showed up intimidated and wondering if I could even make it through a class. I also had come off surgery for my shoulder and definitely had to be mindful of that injury. All I can say is it's the best thing I've ever done. The workouts are super varied - you might come in and start with some agility training to warm you up then it's time to mix it up with some weights, box jumps and double-unders (jump roping on speed). The next day - completely different. Every thing is scalable - for instance, there was a girl there with a broken elbow but she still showed up for class! They just gave her a kettle bell for her good arm and she got to work! Get stronger, you'll need less scaling! The point is, it really is for everyone. Ty and Andy and the rest of the team make every one feel welcome and the facility is amazing - huge windows, great space, gymnastics spring floor (WUT?!). I've been at this gym for a little over 5 years. After bouncing around for a while, I was able to settle in here for two main reasons: 1) The Coaching - I've dropped in at a dozen or so other boxes, and the coaches at Depot have been the most attentive to teaching proper form and mechanics. Warmups are thorough and mobility is emphasized. 2) The People - The members here are great. The environment is fun and supportive, with an aspect of friendly competition available if that sort of thing appeals to you. Even after 5 years, there's always some aspect I feel I can work to improve: strength, a gymnastics movement, etc. I haven't burnt out on Crossfit because it gives me the ability to set goals that are challenging but attainable through hard work and camaraderie. read more

Dropped in for two classes during a quick trip to LA, and it was great! The gym is super spacious and bright (although maybe that's just all gyms compared to gyms in New York). The coaches were both great - spent a lot of time with warm-ups, and then the WOD's were good both days. Both coaches took time to work on form throughout the WOD. Can't ask for much more! And probably haven't laughed as much during a workout as I did there, an added bonus. read more

These guys are with you every step of the way! I only got to take part for a couple months at the actual gym before COVID hit. I was totally addicted to the workouts, the fun, the support, the TLC. I was hooked and in it for the long haul, not to mention changes in my body and strength.
