In my youth and 20's I was super active and never really had to worry about fitness, or eating right. Like most of us as I got older I had a family got married and life got busy. I didn't exercise and move as much as I wanted or should have and I struggled with health issues, weight gain, sore joints, mobility issues, other things that I thought oh, this is just part of getting older. Then in the fall of 2024 at 51 years old, I had to go and get some tests done on my heart and discovered I had a small blockage. Additionally my testosterone was dropping low and lower, I was always tired and was having brain fog. Some of these are part of getting older to a degree, but they were exacerbated by my sedentary lifestyle and bad eating. A good friend of mine, Andy McCann, encouraged me to join CrossFit Garage in Woodstock and just get moving. He promised the coaches would be helpful and work with me on going slow at first until I get in better shape. I was super intimidated at the mere thought of going to a CrossFit gym. I had done CrossFit before in the past and the coaches didn't help with scaling they didn't help with being a beginner or anything along those lines so I wound up getting sick after every single workout so stopped going. I was very, very worried and honestly scared that this was gonna be similar experience. But the CrossFit Garage community is very welcoming, very encouraging, and they want to help you as an individual get healthier. It's still not easy, I still struggle to make time and do the workouts, but I feel better every time I go. I feel encouraged by the coaches and other members every time I go. I have been going a couple of times a week since January, but I can already tell I'm feeling better. My knees are not creaking as bad, my backs not hurting and I am starting to lose a little weight and get more energy. My goal is 3 to 4 days a week and home workouts when I can't go to the gym. I find I enjoy lifting weights and working on the rower and there have been many days I would go at lunch to do the workout. The workouts are much better in the classes, especially if you consistently go to the same one as you start to get to know people. It's never too late to get moving and get healthier. Our coaches at The Garage are so caring and encouraging that even when the workouts kick my butt and I feel like I'm going to die, I still love them and love being there. If there is ever a movement I'm not comfortable with I can ask for help and I get immediate feedback, so I never feel like I am left to figure it out on my own. And when it comes to proper form, our coaches watch everyone like a hawk and will correct form without question and in a supportive way. They really try to get to know you here as an individual in addition to your style as a crossfitter. That has really helped me, because on days when I feel discouraged, they notice and genuinely care, so I feel safe to workout without any judgement. I have been going to the Garage on 92 for the past 2 years and it has truly changed my life. I have always enjoyed lifting weights and going to the gym, but once I got married and had our first child my time became more limited, and I found excuse after excuse to put off going on a regular basis. One of my best friends told me about The Garage, so I checked it out. My first workout was tough, but I was immediatly hooked. The fact that you get a total body workout in an hour is extremely appealing to me. Not only do you get to lift weights, but you get a cardio work out as well so you are able to kill 2 birds with one stone. I started at The Garage in August 2012. I was doing the standard gym thing at Gold's with a personal trainer. I paid more money to workout with a trainer for 30 minutes once a week than I pay at the Garage for basically unlimited workout time and am always accompanied by a trained professional coach. I love the group setting that we workout in. You never feel isolated like you do in typical gyms. Not only have I gotten stronger, faster and healthier--but I have made a lot of really great friends at The Garage! The best thing I have ever done for myself. It will be almost a year since I started crossfit at The Garage. It has been the most amazing journey for me and my health. My passion and love to crossfit wouldn't happen if there wasn't any amazing coaches and community at The Garage! Searched and reviewed several crossfit gyms in the area looking for the best coaches that I thought were the most knowledgeable, willing to push to me to be better, and were safety minded. The Garage in my opinion is the best of the best. If you are looking for somewhere to begin your fitness journey or take your fitness to the next level and beyond then you need to look no further. They preach fundamentals and take the time to work with you to be sure you start off right and have the best chance to succeed. I joined The Garage in April 2013 and can't imagine a week without it now. The coaches are wonderful--encouraging, fun, energetic--and make your workout seem like a party instead of a hassle. My husband had been going here for a few years and with 2 small children, i didn't know where to find the time. Let me tell you, i wanted to find the time once i began!!! I am in my 40s, work A LOT, and want to be around for my 2 and 5 yo. They have awesome male coaches, but they also have mentally and physically strong women telling me that i can be more than i am! I started at the Garage in the fall of 2012 because it was close to where I was living. In May 2013, I moved about 15 miles away from the Garage but I still work in the area. There are a lot of Crossfit gyms that would be more convenient to where I live now but I love the coaches and people at the Garage that I would not even think about changing gyms. The coaches are very knowledgeable and are very good at scaling and adjusting workouts to make the workout appropriately challenging for each person. My family joined CrossFit Garage Woodstock,GA about 3 weeks ago. I am 53 years old and always thought I couldn't keep up with the fast pace. But I decide to give a try with the support of my wife and daughter. First of all , the welcome from the staff was great . Made us feel very comfortable. I am a homeschooling mom of 4 and have been going to the Garage for 4 years. I am in better shape now than when I was in college playing soccer! I have to admit, as a 46 year old woman, I was a bit hesitant to try cross fit. The Coaches and fellow gym members made transition to a healthier, fitter, stronger me so fun I can not believe it has been a year since I have joined. This is the fourth gym I have joined in the last twenty years and it is my favorite! New to Crossfit I was skeptical about joining because I don't have a background in lifting. The coaching staff is great about guiding new members through the workouts and there is an Olympic lifting class. Everyone is welcoming and polite.
