Because of the set up of the class, each exercise and movement is explained before everyone dives into the workout so no matter what experience or level you are personally at everyone participates at their own level. I set a goal to take my health and wellness more seriously this year and CrossFit Lobo is helping me with that! The gym requires you go to at least 3 classes a week. At a glance, the gym can look intimidating, but as a scrawny woman who's never really lifted weights or worked out beyond running and hiking, the coaches have had patience with me and have really encouraged me as I learn proper technique and form. This place doesn't push you beyond your physical limits -- If you tell them you can't do things at a certain weight, they don't bully you and people don't judge you. Last year, I was tired of being out of shape and I was ready for something new. A friend had suggested I try Crossfit since the group atmosphere might motivate me. I had NEVER done any type of weight lifting of high intensity workouts, so I was feeling pretty uncertain that Crossfit was really a good fit for me. I have only good things to say about CF Lobo! I was here for a month, and I joined after having practicing CrossFit for a year on my own but never at a CrossFit gym. For the short time I was here, the trainers and people made me feel extremely welcome and motivated. It truly is a family atmosphere and it's hard to come across a gym that will let you do short-term memberships (they bill on a monthly basis). The schedule of classes is super accommodating (like who else has 5 AM classes?!) which was great to go before work, with a full locker room. I won't lie, an unlimited membership is expensive, but the old adage "you get what you pay for" rings true for CFL too! read more

I was in the area for a week or so helping my sister with her kids and knew I needed to work out, partially to maintain my sanity and partially to make sure I didn't die when I went back to my home box. I signed up online and promptly received a text from Mary asking what time I'd like to come in. I went two days in a row, originally only planning to come for one class. Every coach and member was extremely welcoming and encouraging. I felt at home! Albeit, a very hot couple of classes since my California sensibilities aren't too tolerant of humid weather. The classes were hard enough that I was being challenged, but not ridiculously hard or intimidating, weights are not prescribed like they are at my home gym but built so that you can go your own pace. Beautiful, large, clean facility. The classes are kept small thus giving you lots of individual attention. The WODs are well thought out, including the warm ups and cool down. The staff is super knowledgeable and uplifting, always willing to work with any skill level. The coaches are also skilled at helping their athletes work around any injuries or disabilities. Having only begun practicing CrossFit for about two months I emailed Dee, Lobo's owner, expressing interest in dropping in for a few days during my visit to San Antonio for the holidays. I was a bit apprehensive to try out a new box as I was still learning functional movements, but without hesitation Dee invited me to join a session at my earliest convenience. Lobo is an impressive box that checks off all the boxes a great CrossFit gym should have. Dee and his coaches are very experienced and employ well-thought out and varied programming that is challenging allowing for progression in the sport. With strong attention to athletes attending each session, safety is a priority with technique and scaling emphasized throughout. Workouts are based with warm-ups and strength components before the overall WOD. The space is very open with all the equipment one comes to expect from a CrossFit gym. Locker rooms and workout spaces are all kept clean and maintained. It's located down of off DeZavala in an area that isn't too busy allowing for workouts to include outdoor runs as well. In addition, the community at CrossFit Lobo is very welcoming. Everyone is invested in the success of others as a collective unit or "pack" (to stick with the theme). I thoroughly enjoyed my weeklong visit to Lobo and look forward to being able to attend during my next trip to San Antonio. I'm still fairly new to Crossfit, and was really nervous about dropping into a box where I didn't know anyone. But the visit at Crossfit Lobo was great. I contacted Dee a week before I was coming down, and he replied right away and sent me the info and waiver I needed to fill out. When I got there I was greeted by him and Emma. They gave me a tour right away, and made me feel very comfortable. As class started there were some movements I wasn't familiar with, and Emma stopped to show me each one. Crossfit Lobo owners and all the members make you feel like you are 100% part of the family...the 'Pack'. It's encouraging, engaging and the programming constantly shows me areas to improve and track progress. I have watched my husband workout at this gym for nearly 3 years and finally decided to give it a shot. My thoughts after nearly 6 months? "I wish I'd start sooner!!" It has become part of my daily routine and I look forward to Monday's and the start of a fresh week. Traveling for work and dropped in from out of town for a great workout. I emailed them about dropping in a few days before traveling and received a prompt and friendly email back and was able to easily get set up before I visited. I started my visit with Crossfit Lobo on an early Monday morning 5:30am session. Aaron was leading the session and was super friendly and personable as the rest of the early morning crew who introduced themselves. The facility is great. Crossfit is Google to the fitness community. Easy no frill get to what you need and done. The problem at most Boxes(Gyms) is it does not make owners rich so most have a real job as do their instructors leaving owners to let a student teach, not here. The owner Dee Zimmerman is here all day, his job and investment are the members, great instructor. There are many Boxes that are too small or located in a location were you are not given a cardio option. This Box has it all and a beginner class for those wanting to start slow and work up to a regular class; you don't see that at other boxes. The bad word for beginners are( injuries), due to lack of instruction, correct, form, keeping up with the Joneses when you can't. This Box is perfect you will love it and not feel overwhelmed by the people or the the experience all sizes fit in and all levels of experience. There are no pressure sales, no snob grunters, no Vegan atmosphere. I've coming to Crossfit Lobo for the past 14 months and must say it is by far the best box I have ever been to, due in no small part to Coach Dee Zimmerman. He is a fantastic teacher, one whose focus is on proper form and technique as opposed to only speed and increasing weight. With this philosophy one actually gets better over the long term coupled with a substantially diminished risk of injury. I did Crossfit at multiple locations prior to Lobo as well as ones in South Florida, if it weren't for Coach Dee I would have quitted months ago. He is the best in town. The coaches at Crossfit Lobo are amazing. I used to do crossfit informally in college but never learned proper form or technique. I was asked by a friend to do a drop in and try the box and was amazed at how much the coaches cared about form and technique, and how friendly everyone was. I had a previous ankle injury that I thought was healed, but Dee, Lee and Emma noticed my form on squats was off from day one. They worked with me to identify the issue and gave me stretches to do. I was amazed they were able to tell by my form that I had an injury, and that they have helped me so much with my mobility in my ankle. I can't say enough good things about this box, they've helped me so much with my fitness goals and I've already noticed a huge difference in the 3 months I've been going. This place is great and that pr*ck Lee Ring is awesome, to everybody. CrossFit looks intense, and it can be, but it's far from impossible. I thought I needed to ease into it, maybe go 3 days a week the first month if I could handle that. Lee was unhappy with that mindset. I didn't think I could work out that hard 5 times a week, but Lee saw and didn't accept my excuses, and man, never thought I could consistently do that much in the gym. Great support at this gym. First off I'd like to say I really dislike working out, I'm bad at it and usually get bored within 10-20 min of working out on my own. So I decided to try out crossfit, CrossFit Lobo had the highest reviews so I emailed Dee( the coolest coach). He has you come in and properly learn all the moves, thus preventing injury before putting you into the normal classes. After I finished the beginner course, I got to come to the normal classes, I immediately noticed how nice everyone was. Another cool thing is that every workout can be scaled to what you can actually do.
