We had to walk our kayak up river and the bottom of the lake/ river is full of jagged rocks, barely able to walk on with shoes This was intense.... And the guide acted like they had idea it was like this from a "random" rain north of them. We had fun but go during a drought, for the love of god. Or give folks a refund to try again. This kind of sucked. You can't get with in a 1/4 of a mile of the falls when it's like this. And with kids... that was a major let down.

This is Burgess Falls, another state park located in Central Tennessee sitting 12 miles northwest…read moreof the town of Sparta, TN. There's a 3/4 of a mile out and back hike called the River Trail that leads to 4 different waterfall lookout points comprising Burgess Falls SP. Waterfall #1 - The Cascades. Sort of the introduction area to the park. Waterfall #2 - First Falls. A quick glance at a 30 foot high waterfall section. But nothing special, imo. When Continuing on the trail, you'll cross over a wooden bridge and follow up a staircase. Now at... Waterfall #3 - Middle Falls... Middle Falls is 80 feet high and partially obstructed by trees and branches having grown over time. *Side Note*.... I wish park services would do some forest cutting for everyone to enjoy clearer views of the park's waterfalls. Entrance right now is free. I'd suggest charging a small fee and using that money to pay for some grooming. A lot of the observation points can't be fully appreciated. Just me venting a little, lol. Waterfall #4 - Burgess Falls... Burgess falls is the centerpiece highlight of the park. Standing at 136 feet from top to bottom, Burgess Falls can absolutely be dramatic, but still natural excess forest maturation disrupts full visibility of the falls. I did read that kayaking at the bottom of Burgess Falls is the most interactive way to come face to face with this statuesque waterfall. You can rent kayaks at Cane Hollow Recreation Area, located at the end of Cane Hollow Road. It's about 10 minutes from Burgess Falls. You can end the River Trail hike at the Top of Burgess for a panoramic overlook of the rugged gorge the falls splash down into from high above. It's another quick stop and go area before returning back towards the trailhead. Overall, Burgess Falls was a muted experience for me, but still has potential to be a rewarding visit if park authorities can maintain the inevitable growing forest hindrances that negate special moments at the waterfall overlooks.

We just picked up our two boys (8&10) for their first week long camp experience and they're…read moresleeping soundly in the back seat! They are glowing...raving....singing this camps praises.....and they stink to high heaven!!! I asked how many times they bathed.....ZERO! I mean what do you expect?! I haven't heard all the details but a word to the wise. Fill their accounts with $15....not $25. They're only allowed to buy 2 snacks a day....mine had $15 left over at the end of the week so he basically bought out the snack shack in the form of skittles, Reece's and a couple Dr Pepper. :) Make sure to remember the big spray (not that mine used a drop) one found a live tick crawling on him the second he entered the car :/. On the spiritual front they worshipped every day!!!! And read their bibles! They didn't use the journals we bought special for camp (at the camp's request) so there's that. I wish the leaders would've made them make time for journaling. It such a powerful life lesson and I haven't been able to make it stick at home. That's my only beef. And the lack of cleanliness. I mean my son fished EVERY DAY! Just saying:) Anyway, I'm planning on booking a week next year for sure!!!! Send your kids! Have a weeklong marriage retreat at home! You're welcome!!!! Only advice to the camp. Y'all could make the process better for parents by keeping up with the Facebook page while they're away so parents can see what's going on. Also, have a farewell letter or email to parents recapping how the week went overall....just a couple thoughts. The place is Uber laid back and chill which we just LOVE!!! Thanks a bunch!

I was nervous at first, but my cabin mates welcomed me with giggles and late-night chats, instantly becoming my best friends. I discovered dance in a sunny studio, twirling to upbeat music with a patient counselor who taught me every step. I even won a medal! Fencing was a surprise--I was shy, but holding the foil, learning to lunge, felt like being in a movie. Sailing was the biggest adventure. I was scared of the healing at first, but gliding across the lake, wind in my hair, was thrilling. I stayed far from the stables--horses spook me--but there was so much else to love. The best part? My school friends can join next year thanks to the camp's tuition assistance, to promote camp for girls that would normally not have the opportunity. I'm already dreaming of next summer's laughter and new skills. This camp changed everything!

She also participates in the yearly summer recital. Both regular and competition classes are offered here. Competition dances are held throughout the year, but the recital is only held once in the summer. Both class and solo dancers perform during both. The dancers have also performed during the local Christmas parade in previous years. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the amount of time spent working with the dancers to make sure they have the routine down before a competition or recital. Ms. Labronya is amazing with the dancers and treats them all as if they are her own children. She is very down-to-earth and understanding. If your child is interested in dance and you live in (or near) Smith County, I highly recommend Ms. Labronya at Carthage Dance Studio.
