Trainers aren't certified. They'd rather gossip than coach. Worst experience at a CrossFit period.

Staff were REALLY helpful in logging back into my old account and starting my membership again as well as set up a buddy pass for my little brother. I've only been to the Chuze off H Street in Chula Vista so I was not aware, nor did I even ask first, you schedule an appointment for the other amenities (I.e. sauna, tanning bed, etc.). However, a staff member very politely informed me of their rules at their location. Stupid move on my part but I thank the staff for being so polite and helpful with me! Gym equipment was all kept clean and maintained properly. It was busier around the time I went but there was a decent amount of equipment and I didn't have to wait very long.

The staff refused and told me I had to sign up for a tour pass first. After taking the time to do the tour pass like they asked, they STILL refused to let me use the restroom. Completely unreasonable and honestly embarrassing customer service. It felt more about control and policies than basic human decency. First impressions matter, and this experience guaranteed I'll never consider joining this gym. There are plenty of other gyms that know how to treat people respectfully.

Locomotion is the best group gym experience I've ever had. As "group fitness," you'll be shocked at…read morehow personalized it feels. From my very first sessions, the coaches learned my name, my strengths, and my goals and that personal attention has never faded. The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming. I've never once felt intimidated or like an outsider, which is rare in a group fitness setting. There are tons of regulars here (a testament to how good it is), but they embrace newcomers with open arms. Even partner workouts are stress-free because the coaches thoughtfully pair you up based on size and capability so no awkward moments or feeling left out. The programming is strength-focused, not just endless reps or HIIT burnout. Every workout challenges you to grow with proper form and progressive weight. Coaches don't just stand back or sit on their phones, they are constantly walking around, giving constructive feedback to keep you safe and improving without ever making you feel judged. The gym itself is solid: clean, open concept, brand-new equipment. The music keeps things fun too - each trainer has their own personality and favorite playlists - one morning might be punk/rock, the next hip-hop, and another high-energy house mix to fuel a Friday which makes classes fresh and motivating. I was skeptical about the 3-week programming format at first because I hate routine and predictability, but I actually love it and it wasn't even a learn to love it experience. Having back to back weeks of the same program is like having a personal trainer because you can track your weights and really see progress more easily. (And if you're not feeling a particular workout, it's easy to swap/avoid that day hehehe). Booking is simple, even same-day, and rarely you'll see a waitlists or stress, plus the cancellation policy is super reasonable. What really sets Locomotion apart is how much the trainers care. James, the owner, checks in regularly with personal texts to make sure I'm getting the most out of my membership. When I had back pain after a vacation, he offered a free 1:1 consult to help me safely get back into training. He even worked with me when I had an unexpected billing issue with my old gym - something he absolutely didn't have to do, but did because he genuinely cares about his members. If you've been looking for a gym that combines the energy / discipline of group fitness with the attention of personal training and a community that will make you feel right at home - Locomotion is it. I can't recommend it enough.

i love working out. always have…read more but finding the right place...that's different. it's about energy. chemistry. whether you belong there or you're just another membership fee. most gyms feel transactional. like you're paying for access to equipment and nothing more. not this one. locomotion athletics gets it. gets me. in ways i didn't even know i needed to be gotten. listen. i used to be the person who smiled politely when coaches would say things like "you'll be able to do this" or "trust the process" and i'd nod along thinking...sure, and maybe i'll sprout wings while i'm at it. i was wrong. they were right. about everything. i'm doing things now i never imagined: lifting weights that used to seem impossible. pulling myself up from bars i could barely hang from. the coaches here...they see something in you before you see it in yourself. and then they wait. patiently. while you catch up to their vision. am i still coming to terms with the fact that they were right all along? absolutely. it's humbling in the most beautiful way. the programming here isn't just smart. it's intuitive. like someone crawled inside your body and figured out exactly what it needed to wake up. every workout feels purposeful. intentional. like a conversation between you and your potential. and the community... the community! this isn't some sterile fitness factory. this is a place where people show up as themselves. where celebrations happen for first pull-ups, personal records, and simply showing up on days when showing up feels impossible. the coaches don't just correct your form. they see you. really SEE you. they know when to push and when to hold space. when to celebrate and when to simply nod with quiet understanding. i'm stronger than i've ever been in my life. EVER. which feels poetic since i have a book coming out that's probably going to ruffle some feathers. (nothing wrong with a little self-promotion, right? "i wish i was worse" coming nov 9!) there's something deeply satisfying about knowing that when the inevitable fights come from what i've written about people, i'll be ready. the strength i've built here isn't just physical. it's the kind that holds you steady when the world decides to have opinions about your truth. this place doesn't just build bodies. it builds the kind of person who can handle whatever comes next.

Since this was my first visit, she explained that they made protein smoothies, nutrition services, a gym and personal training. I was taken on a tour and there was a small gym in the back - WHOA, didn't expect that! What also surprised me was that this establishment has been here for many years, as in over 10 years?! Crazy how I didn't notice it before. Perhaps a change in management?! The owner then came out, and he introduced himself as Dennis. He spoke that they had a lot of clients and they are very supportive of the military as he was in the military as well. A trainer came in and also introduced himself as Brad. Super fit and a lot of energy. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming and I didn't feel pressured into making a purchase, etc. I was invited back with my husband to try a free personal training class. The hours are convenient with having both late nights and weekends available. Excited to see what their circuit training is all about!

I am writing to formally bring to your immediate attention a severe operational and safety failure…read morethat occurred at the Balboa Super Sport location in San Diego. On the consecutive late-night shifts of July 4 and July 5, 2026, the facility was left completely unstaffed for an eight-hour window starting at the 10pm shift. Operating a 100,000-square-foot high-volume fitness facility with zero employee oversight during these hours presents an unacceptable risk profile and a profound breach of the standard duty of care. In a high-risk environment of this scale, the total absence of personnel creates staggering liability. Had a member experienced a critical medical emergency, sustained a severe injury under a heavy lift, or had a physical altercation or security breach occurred, the lack of immediate staff response would be entirely indefensible. This operational gap placed both the members and the organization in a position of extreme vulnerability. Furthermore, reliable internal sources indicate that this lack of coverage was not a standard scheduling oversight, but rather the result of inter-club politics and regional friction between the La Jolla UTC and Imperial Avenue locations regarding sales credit allocation. Allowing regional rivalries and internal metrics to compromise basic facility safety and operational security represents a severe breakdown in leadership. Given the gravity of this situation, it is imperative that upper management intervene immediately to investigate this systemic failure, address the underlying operational conflicts, and implement strict protocols to ensure a facility of this magnitude is never left exposed again. I expect a prompt review of this matter to restore standard safety and professional oversight at the Balboa location.

She glances at me and starts talking to him again. I'm just standing there waiting patiently and I notice in my peripheral vision that she stares at me one more time. Decides to not even talk to me at all and glances back at him talking about things not related to work at all, lol. To grab her attention I had to glare at her to which the guy notices and points towards me to actually talk to me. She doesn't say good morning at all, or.. anything at all matter of fact. So I have to properly greet myself and let her know what I was there for, to activate my 3-day free pass. Three words only came out of her mouth; read the sign, while pointing at it. Yeah, no. I couldn't read it, BECAUSE IT WAS ORIENTED IN A MANNER THAT I COULDN'T READ IT. Those were the only three words that came out of her mouth, right after that she just went back to straight yapping which was hysterical. If I entered the gym and saw the huge pink sign properly displayed, maybe I would've read it and went "Oh gee, maybe I can't do this 3-day free pass thing!" I had to go through a solid 5 minutes of her glancing and ignoring me just for the big reveal that it was on a sign that literally in an orientation that I wasn't able to read when walking in.

However, it seemed I was on a plateau when I learned about Kari's GLP-1 Strong program. While prescribed by my PCP, I had always felt there wasn't much structure other than take this every week and watch the pounds melt away. While this is all good, I wanted a plan to progress more quickly and to utilize once off the medication. I cannot say enough good things about this 12-week program and Kari's knowledge on fitness and nutrition. Kari customizes her plans for each individual and focuses on accountability, consistency, and behaviors to focus on. I am an additional 12 pounds down and have gained the strength and confidence to finish my journey, including after stopping the jab. I will most likely sign up again during this transition.

Spoiler alert: this wasn't just a wedding prep plan, it turned into a total lifestyle shift. The first year wasn't perfect (life happens...hello, wine nights and takeout!), but Kari never judged or gave up on me. Instead, she helped me reset, get real about my goals, and build habits that actually worked. By my wedding in June 2024, I was down 40 lbs and 10% body fat and I felt strong, confident, and truly proud of how I looked and felt walking down the aisle. Since then, we've shifted to strength, mindset, and maintenance and let me tell you, that's been just as empowering. I've learned how to stay consistent, lift heavier, eat more without guilt, and care about so much more than just the scale. Working with Kari isn't just about macros and workouts (though those are dialed in); it's about learning how to show up for yourself even when life gets messy. I cannot recommend her enough if you're ready for change that actually lasts.
