I'm a transplant to the Houston-Area, so when I can't get home to celebrate holidays, I know there is always someone here inviting me into their home. There are so many activities for people of all ages to be involved in. My kids have Sunday School and the Youth program, I can be busy in a Small Group and there are programs for older adults as well. Oh, and let's not forget the actual church service!!! Pastor Scott Cummings is great at giving sermons based on themes that keep you coming back every Sunday. He is an awesome spiritual advisor who will pray with you in times of trouble and joy. He hangs-out with the congregation and really gets to know each and every person that comes through the doors. That's one of my favorite things about this church.

I attended the 9:30 am service and 11am bible study so this is what I've observed and experienced at those specific times. You might have a different experience from what I had at depending on the time you go! For starters, the worship building was beautiful! Walking around this campus was super overwhelming though. I got lost trying to find my friend here because it's HUGE. I got here about 10 minutes before the service started but did not have trouble finding a good seat. Worship was about an hour long; 15 minutes of singing and about 45 min of preaching. I really liked Ben Young's style of teaching; I truly felt like I was being taught rather than the propensity preaching that most megachurches present. Their bible study sessions was also great; I could be there all day listening to the lady teach. I really regret not bringing my bible and taking notes. Although this was a great church to attend, I personally don't think it is the right fit for me. While it's not a bad church, it feels largely…read moreunpolished and unrefined in just about everything. --- I had come here looking for a Catholic mass near my friends place since I had been nearby. I saw the reviews and thought I would give it a try. The website said mass started at 12pm, but I came to find out that it started at 1230pm instead. There were no announcements about this on the site either, so the website was outdated. The missals passed out were also from 2014, so those are also outdated. Luckily, you can follow along on the TV screens inside. The staff and volunteers are very friendly and invited us in to take a seat, telling us mass would start at 1230pm The choir feels like they haven't practiced all that much. I'm very grateful they volunteered of course, but the singing is out of rhythm with the guitarists every time there was singing. Other times, they would occasionally sing out of tune with the guitars. I'm very rhythmically inclined so I could notice it but it may not be as obvious to others. The pastor also has a heavy Asian accent while speaking loudly and forcefully. I could make out most of what he said, but it was a bit on the difficult side, and I imagine that it could be harder for those that aren't used the the abrasive style of his speaking. They also had a video to show, but had technical difficulties getting it to play sound, which could have easily been avoided with an A/V check before the mass started. Overall, it isn't a bad church, but comparatively to other churches I've been to, they could use a lot of improvement and touch up in their mass. It has a lot of potential, and just needs to up the quality in a lot of aspects.

By the time we got to the peace, half of the church had introduced themselves and wanted to know who I was. So, for the first time since I moved here 10 years ago, I have real friends at church. I'm just not another guy in the pew. There's tons of young families, lots of kids, and activities (most of which provide licensed childcare). A typical month has several dinners, a wine study & bible tasting (that's not a misprint), classes, and a tennis league. Whatever age, nationality, orientation, and whether you have kids or not, they want you to feel welcome and a part of the community, and there's stuff for you to do in addition to worship. The pastor is great, but it's the whole community that makes St. Catherine's home for us. It just feels right.
