Enjoyed two visits to this local landmark restaurant during our stay in Rosseau. It can be difficult to get a reservation during the busy summer months so you may want to plan ahead. The ambiance is lovely and welcoming with a beautiful patio that features heaters for the cooler evenings. There is also live entertainment on some nights. The summer cocktail selection is impressive and we all enjoyed them to kick off the experience. The menu is quite limited which is not a bad thing for a restaurant focused on quality but I still found it to be a bit too limited. The wine selection is also quite limited. If you love your wines, like I do, I would bring my own and gladly pay the corkage fee. We had a little bit of everything from meats to pasta and fish. We shared for the table so that we each had the opportunity to try everything. There was nothing to complain about but it didn't "wow" us. In speaking with some longtime locals, I think the popularity of this place has meant that they no longer need to go above and beyond to satisfy the local crowd and cottagers who don't mind spending a lot on a nice night out. Make a reservation LONG in advance. This place is hard to get into, but it's worth it. The appetizers looked so good, I had 2! I had the Crispy Shrimp and veggie spring rolls were excellent. Great setting both inside and out. The offerings on the menu were diverse. We started with their fresh bread and the tomato on whipped ricotta cheese. I could have just had more of this with the Hess Chardonnay. I went with the Pickerel dinner ...very good. Our friends made the reservation approximately two months in advance. My parents and I are very big fans of this restaurant, although today we had a disappointing experience. We live in Toronto and own a cottage in Muskoka. All of our special events such as birthdays and anniversaries are always celebrated at Crossroads when we are in the area. we love the food, the atmosphere and the staff. Today my mother called asking for availability and to make a reservation for two. After going back and forth pleading and trying to accommodate times, she was met with quite a hostile attitude by what we know now is the owner. Stating that there are no free tables and she knew that for a fact as she is the owner. After checking online we saw that there were in fact tables available. My mother made a reservation despite being told otherwise and given false information and enjoyed her dinner. I do not know what this is about or why she was turned away like this but it is confusing and insulting. Especially since we love the place and recommend it every chance we get. I am writing this review on behalf of my mother as she doesn't speak or write English as well as I do, as it is not her first language. I can't explain it , but you know you have come to a special place from the moment you walk into Crossroads restaurant. The view is lovely and the atmosphere unassuming and cottage- comfortable. Service was attentive and leisurely and then there is the food.... Thé cocktails are exquisite - the Cesar comes dressed with almost a full appetizer dressing it up. The menu stretches its boundaries from grass fed Beef to Georgian pickerel and east to PEI oysters. Every plate showed attention to detail and care to use only the finest ingredients. I went to this restaurant last week for lunch while up north for vacation. I have driven by hundreds of times & thought it was overdue to try. We sat outside on the patio. It was gorgeous & couldn't ask for a prettier view looking over Lake Rosseau. The food was great. I had the sandwich of the day for $12 which was a veal schnitzel on a bun with fries...soooo good. My boyfriend had the fish & chips which were given a delicious review as well. The lunch food portions were really big. The waitress was really nice & knowledgeable about everything on the menu. Overall, the prices were pretty standard for a lunch menu at a nicer restaurant & I really enjoyed this meal. The dinner menu is completely different & a little more fancy so make sure you check it out first. You shouldn't be disappointed. read more

This place is really quaint. The atmosphere is really nice year-round, there's a good selection of fine dining local-ingredient-inspired food as well as pub food. The food is delicious and the patio is quite nice also. As a regular visitor to the area, I would love it if the business hours were more accommodating, but considering its location in cottage country where the annual and seasonal population changes drastically, I understand why they can't be open late on a Tuesday in the middle of January. :-) I would recommend Crossroads for a nice dinner (any time of year) or for a casual drink and appetizer on the patio in the summer. read more

Excellent lunch! We came here on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend just before noon (it opens at 1130). The whole menu looks delicious and the choice was tough but we went with the smoked trout salad ($17) with quail eggs, apple, potato, asparagus, and picked onions along with the brisket sandwich on marble rye bread with maple mustard (and side salad). Everything was delicious and service was great too. When we left around 1pm, the place was packed! Would love to come for dinner one day but I hear you should make a reservation . I walked past the Crossroads this afternoon. I don't know the exact Covid-19 regulations for Rosseau but it was clear nobody seemed concerned about a disease killing many Ontarians. In Rosseau, there isn't that many excellent places to eat. But this place is a gem. Our server Amy was awesome. She made the night go by so smoothly. The food was top notch from the pork chop which was perfectly cooked to the veal chop that was also perfectly cooked to all the fresh ingredients. All in all an excellent experience. Appallingly bad customer service. If a restaurant has regulars and wants to accommodate them above customers who made reservations a week earlier and planned a Birthday dinner here, that's their choice, but there is really no need to bold face lie about it. I would have loved to review the food, or the ambience, or the wait service, but after the insulting behaviour of the staff we felt little choice but to leave without sampling any of it. For the record, in the survey below I indicated they do take reservations, but in doing they are also dishonest about it. When we made the reservation we asked three times to confirm that they had a TV and that it would be showing the Leafs home opener. Three times. It was a condition of us driving into Rosseau to go to this pub. We were assured THREE times, that would be the case. "Of course we will sir." They lied, and as a result we had to drive 45mins in the opposite direction to a place that suited our needs. read more

Brutal experience. Despairingly slow service. And then the food arrived -- nothing as described. We were told we were ordering pickerel, pan-seared (explicitly, the waitress said "not breaded") with green beans. What arrived was dried-out pickerel, breaded in insanely salty breading, with a lukewarm potato salad. I counted a single green bean on my plate. Very mediocre food around the table at high prices. I spent the better part of the afternoon recently on the beautiful outdoor patio at Crossroads Bar & Grill over looking the splendid Lake Rousseau, and although the weather proved to be quite fickle on this day, the service was anything but. Our waitress was a local, and although I could surmise with near certainty that she lacked the telltale savvy of a veteran server, she did have an earnest need to provide the best service she could. She was attentive, yet not invasive and when stymied on a particular question she would quickly ask the kitchen or a nearby colleague for assistance, using her surrounding resources well. The food was decidedly decent, no real surprises, yet none were truly expected. I had the Crossroads version of a Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich-which highlighted a beef brisket smoked for 12 hours, shaved and then piled high upon pedestrian rye bread. Schwartz's it was not, but then again this famed Montreal establishment has been slinging smoked meat sandwich's since the great depression. The accompanying fries were probably the highlight of the day they were obviously hand cut, seasoned to perfection and provided that requisite starchy goodness that one craves when frequenting a decent pub. This is a lovely restaurant in scenic Rousseau ON. My husband and I stopped for what we hoped would be a relatively up-scale lunch. In spite of the attentive wait staff we had to wait over an hour for a simple lunch order. This was a bit disappointing as we had plans and needed to get on with our day. If you have all the time in the world then this place is for you but if you like you meal to be served within the hour.....choose another venue. read more

I debated giving this place a 4 star review because it's pricey but then realized, in Muskoka, it's impossible to get quality food for city prices. My wife and I have been riding our bikes past this place for years. We decided to stop for lunch in the middle of our ride from our Lake of Bays cottage. I went inside and asked if there was room outside for lunch. The host promptly said no and said there was no room. I left thinking it was full. My wife went back in and asked again and the same snotty host said no room and then 5 other couples were seated after us. My wife then asked how long the wait would be and he said there was no room. I've eaten at this place a few times and always been very happy with the food. Our family has dietary issues and there was very little on the menu we could not eat. They even had gluten-free desserts! Well worth the cost! We started with some Caesar salad. Great dressing, just a bit too much of it. Hubby had a shrimp appetizer, there were 5 shrimp and was good, but they had the tails still on which is not easy to eat when the shrimp is hot. I had a stuffed chicken breast, which was fantastic. Fresh veggies and a great mushroom risotto which I subbed in for potatoes. Hubby had a berkshire pork chop while although small was delicious. We finished off with creme brûlée and a coconut chocolate cream pie (gluten-free). While the service was a bit slow for a restaurant that really wasn't that busy, the food more than makes up for it. Have been frequenting this establishment for a few years. Although pricey, the food is good. However, in the last couple of visits, the service was horrible. Not something I would expect from an establishment such as this. Seems there has been a change with many of the service people. I even heard yelling from the back of the kitchen area. The food is too good to describe, the portions are enormous. Two full grown men can split the hamburger and amazing fries and walk out of there stuffed. Every thing on the menu is fabulous. Don't go if you are in a rush, take your time and enjoy. It has an outdoor patio overlooking the top of Lake Rosseau, has an excellent, warm, recently renovated interior and charming finishing touches on the decour. Summer or Winter, (snowmobile friendly) this is THE destination spot for food in Rosseau. The only negative thing I would comment on is that it's a tad pricey, when you add alcohol to the order - but for a special treat - it's worth every nickel. read more

We only came here for drinks, this review is not about the food. Since we only came for drinks, the review will mostly focus on the service we received. My boyfriend and I came arrived in Rosseau late and decided to sit at the marina for the sunset. On the spur of the moment, we decided to step into Crossroads 45 minutes before closing. I braced myself for some evil glares, it was 45 minutes before closing and there was only one other couple in the restaurant. But we were greeted with nothing but smiles, they accommodated our request to sit outside. The servers checked on us often, even though we only had drinks. I felt very comfortable and welcomed to stay as long as we wanted. The from the patio on to the water is fabulous. Just on the great level of service, I would definitely come back here for food or drink. Looking at the old pictures of the place, they have renovated the front area. There is not longer a gas station, instead there is a barbecue and a few Muskoka chairs and a fire pit. Definitely a step up. read more

Even the complimentary bread brought to the table tasted homemade and Sooo fresh. We split an appetizer Caesar salad and it was considerately plated into two portions of very generous proportions.
