I went to Crossroad 11/112023, and one of the workers took me off to the side and started chewing my A for something I said jokingly about the GM, this man wouldn't even let me speak to defend myself, he was extremely rude, at the end of his conversation he walked away without letting me speak, and he tells me to "enjoy your day" I had just spent $1,200 for a gun with a red dot, I got my training here for my CCL license bought a At-15 and a lot if ammo, and this is the way the treat a costumer, and of course the GM does care as long as he doesn't have to handle this situation. never going back. read more

The facility is nice but the customer service is lacking. I bought a LWRC PDW SBR at this location. This gun requires a stamp from the ATF. When I purchased this gun I worked into the deal to have two free indoor range sessions, Tom said that would be no problem and would get it covered and waive all fees. Well, fast forward 18 months later, I finally got my stamp and came in for my "free sessions". They said I had to pay $4 for the insurance waiver, weird since obviously that is their way of nickel and diming you, but that is aside from the point that Tom had promised me all fees would be waived. The lady at the front counter grabbed Tom as he walked pass and asked him about this. His response was that it was just for the range fees not the $4 waiver fee and that he didn't remember promising me that, very convenient to forget after you sold me the $2200+ gun Tom. After a bit of back and forth he finally said in his condescending tone "just give it to him", and walked off. Tom- running a business is a long game not a short game. You probably won't close your doors because of your piss poor attitude and your inability to remember your own promises but you will lose sales. I will never set foot in your store or ever buy anything from you based on the way you treated me over $4. You're scum bud. Remember you not the only range or gun shop in Des Moines. read more

I have been hearing bad comments about Tom being rude to customers. Crossroads is where I received my CCP permit and everything went find. I have bought items from here. Used the range many times. And I have spoken to most of the people working here. But haven't been here for a while, not due to any personal issues or anything else. I believe I have spoken to Tom on a personal issue about myself which Tom was very helpful. But nevertheless everyone at Crossroads should be very helpful to all customers, because their business depends on this. If anyone is rude to me I will let them know and maybe speak to the owner. I have noticed from the reviews on here that no one from Crossroads have discussed any issues from the reviews, so this makes me wonder if administration is reading and taking responsibility for their business. read more

07/03/2020- DO NOT GO DURING A HOLIDAY. Horrible customer service. I called to inquire about their rates and hours and it was $20 per lane per day. Asked about ammo and they said it's a available. Got there and they gave me and my wife a lane, but my brother got his own lane since he rented. They gave me and my wife 2 boxes of ammo total and my brother got two boxes. My wife and I went through the ammo quick, since we are two and each had their gun. About 30 minutes later, I went back to the desk and asked for another box, but when I asked the guy. Rhino the counter, who I didn't catch his name, he just said "NO" in a high tone, so I paused for him to say why and he just had a smirky look on his face, so I asked "why?". His reply was "each lane gets two boxes because the holiday", so I told him "but we are two on this lane, and I called and no one said anything about the limit". He replied back with a "Don't know.. all I know it's 2 boxes per lane". I asked if there's anyone I can get one more because we haven't been there for even 30 minutes and he replied back "NO" with a consistent smiley look. I understand that they need to make sure they have enough ammo. But it's not fair for anyone to hand one person that takes over a lane 2 boxes vs. two or three people that take over a lane also 2 boxes total. It's dishonest to not alert people, especially that we called prior to arrival. If you want to say "no", be polite by saying "sorry, unfortunately we can't" and explain. No need for making dumb faces. Very rude staff & horrible service. Anyways, in the end, they lost a sale for a couple guns, because my brother was going to buy one for his concealed carry and one for the house (kind of like what I have). We stood by the handgun case for about 10 minutes and the staff was standing talking right across from us and no one came to see if we need help. Off course that was after the whole ammo event, so I told him that we can spend our money in a place that's worth it. read more

Finally, an indoor range in Iowa with the option for gun rentals*! (*See website for details regarding rentals) The only indoor range I have been to was in Minnesota and they were excellent, clean, and organized. This place, is just as good if not better! Spacious parking lot! It is not only an indoor range, it is a shop with TONS of accessories and ammo available for purchase. My friend and I were lucky to beat the rush, once we finished watching the mandatory orientation video and waiver signing (Took about 10 minutes) we waited less than 10 minutes after that when a spot on the range opened up (They call your name like a restaurant). There is plenty of comfortable seating and things to check out during your wait. We opted to go with a rental, the Desert Eagle .50AE. Why? Because I've wanted to shoot one my whole life and the opportunity was here! The rental for the Desert Eagle comes with a range officer which stands with you the entire time if you need assistance, because this is sort of a unique weapon. I can honestly say this was the most fun I have ever had shooting at the range, although we only shot 25 rounds between the two of us, it felt like we shot hundreds due to the awesome-factor of the Desert Eagle. The pricing is what you would expect from a high quality indoor range, it is pricey, but worth it! Definitely check it out! Bring your friends to shoot here, no better way to introduce your friends to shooting than at a high quality range! read more

Got charge 5wo different prices , for what reason I have ok now clue but I do know did have a fit on compared to the other occasion. Then the Gunsmith stole my lock tight , stole my Allen-key for the optic right out the box when initially he didn't even take the box back there . Overpriced, you can literally find the same.gun cheaper EVERYWHERE ELSE in my opinion . I just wouldn't trust it again with my life is all I'm saying 15$ compared to $55 for a battery optic change , outrageous! read more

I've owned a variety of guns for years. Whenever I go into a new shop I act like I know nothing and fumble around to see how they treat new customers. If you're not kind to a total noob, I don't want to support you. Of all the shops I've visited in the Des Moines area, this one was the kindest. They let me look at 6 very similar pistols side by side and let me shoot 2 before making a purchase. They gave sound advice and clear instructions on how to use the pistols. Their attention to safety on the range was excellent. It's always great to hear them talk about beginners luck when they see my grouping. This is a super nice indoor range very clean and bright with well maintained up to date equipment! So glad to have one as to not shoot out in the cold! Staff is super friendly and helpful! They have a 8 minute safety video you start out with and fill out a form, then they hold your ID while you shoot. It's great because the range is secure by a key fob badge so you can't just walk into a shooting area! They also have a target sending and retrieval system which tells you the exact yard your target is out on the keypad before you send it off to fire! They also allow rifles and handguns up to .50 caliber. Which is great! Not many ranges allow that high of caliber!! They have both a shop with plenty of selection as well as gun rentals to use on the range. Which is great especially if you don't want to buy without testing out first!! I can't wait to come back and try a few different models!!! They offer classes from beginner to experienced! They also have range master available if you need assistance! They also offer conceal carry classes and fun nights like date night and ladies night! Best quality is you pay once and you can come back with valid receipt all day! Nice clean range. Staff was helpful and nice. They supply eye protection and hearing protection which was nice if you take a novice shooter with you. I liked that the range was set up to shoot rifles and pistols in the same lane. Saves moving around..there is weapons to rent if you want to try something before buying it. They sell ammo and guns there as well. I like that the range fee isn't by the hour. Only get bumped if they start to get backed up. But you can come back the same day. All pros. Cons would only be the steep prices on the targets, bring some with if you have them. 2nd would be inside the range itself there is no table or place to get organized with your guns and equipment. Not enough chairs as well..some end up having to be used to organize guna. Over all a great place to go. read more

I signed up for a Handgun 101 class to get my Permit to Carry with Lori Ahern and at first I was kind of nervous because I have never been to a shooting range nor ever shot a gun before (not including paintball guns and that sort) but it was actually a lot of fun! Once you enter the building they have a store front where they have guns, ammo, clothing and other merchandise on sale. It was very welcoming and not as intimidating as I was expecting so that was nice. Staff are all really friendly and helpful and directed me to the right place. I checked in at the counter right by the door and since I do not own a gun, they let me rent a .22 and I assume this is because it's the "beginner's" gun and they also sell you ammo at the same time if you need it. You can also bring in your own gun and ammo but they have to be checked in at the back counter and then you are given a ticket to retrieve it once you get to the live-fire drills during the last hour of the class. The class was 4 hours long. The first 3 hours, you are taught firearms safety, handgun components and operation, what to use to safely clean and store your firearms, applicable firearm laws, and basic marksmanship. I found it extremely informative and Lori was so upbeat and friendly that I felt more comfortable to do the live-fire with each new topic we learned. After the classroom portion, we were given ear muffs and safety glasses before getting into the range. If you already wear glasses then you won't need to wear the safety glasses too. Lori talks you through the entire exercise and it made me so comfortable. My first shot did shake me a little because of the recoil but after that, I was good. I did need a different .22 than everyone else because I'm left-handed but they were very accommodating and helpful. There was another staff member in the shooting range besides Lori that was also very knowledgeable and helpful. I had a little malfunction with my gun and she came over and fixed it and I was back to shooting again. I had so much fun and was no longer nervous because I felt more prepared thanks to Lori and the staff. I do recommend going earlier to go through the waiver. You can also do it online before the class which I did so check in was faster. I would definitely go back to shoot again and maybe take some lessons to try out the other types of guns or take the advanced classes. I highly recommend this place to anyone seeking their Permit to Carry or if they just want to try shooting. There are a lot of guns you can rent but you will need to purchase the ammo if you don't have it. Again, the class was great and the staff were very professional and seem to really enjoy their jobs. My trigger finger is itching! My trigger finger has been itching since this place opened. I really wanted to get a pass for the entire year as soon as we discovered that they were right in our neighborhood. An indoor shooting range! Very exciting. Finally with a little nudge and the discovery of their couples shooting on the first and third Friday, hubby took me. Now I am not afraid of guns, but they make me nervous that I still shake a little when I shoot. I was very excited to do this to help with my nervousness. I cant wait to go back! The staff were all super helpful. They made sure our waivers were signed, that we had watched the safety video (Both are things you can do prior to going, which I did.) Went over how to get into the room and what to expect and what to do. You go in and put on your protection and enter the room. Its a viewing room so people outside in the main building can watch you or other people shoot. I had a blast. It was great to finally be able to try out my firearms in a setting that I could see the results right away. Apparently Im not a bad shot. :) Got my geek on and shot a zombie target. They also do have a virtual shooting range to shoot zombies as well but that will be another time. It did give me a chance to think about that maybe I need to be shooting something different than I currently own. We got to talking with the staff when we went back out and he was kind and went over different hand guns with us. They have many on hand that you can rent and try out. Then you can tell if you really want that gun in the long run or not. It wasn't a super busy night so I felt really comfortable with sharing the lane with hubby as we went through a few rounds. When you go to leave you sweep up the rounds on the ground and don't take off your protection til you leave the main shooting room. The store in the facility is full of great items for men and women. They are really happy to help a woman shooter. I have heard from other people as well that they are really into promoting women shooters. I do have to share that my father is also someone who visited. He took my mother who is also a little nervous still with firearms. Here is a tip from her and her visit. *Wear a tight collared shirt* Your rounds are going to be possibly bouncing off the stall wall and could hit you.... or in her case, go down the back of her shirt. Then you possibly will be dancing around with a hot shell in your shirt! read more

As a military veteran and conservative 2nd amendment advocate, I have high expectations regarding gun/range safety and accountability of personnel handling firearms and ammunition. As such, I have been trained to report any potential issues in order to have them eliminated ASAP. However, when I tried to discuss these; possible solutions in a civilized manner, general manager Tom Hudson lost my business and respect after our conversation rather abruptly turned into him suggesting to cancel my membership. It seems management and people skills are not Tom's forte when you happen to disagree with him. After all, I used to visit Crossroads very regularly and had been a member in good standing.  Things to know before you go: -Location, parking and facility are excellent. -Staff is very friendly and mostly knowledgeable. (However, as TW, Charlie G. and Chris W. noticed, in the event of a return or complaint your case depends on Tom's approval; and unfortunately I have no confidence in this anymore.) -You may have to shoot next to large caliber weapons. (No big deal if you shoot a big rifle yourself - not so nice if you just use a .22 or .380 pistol. They do have three separate ranges, so actually to keep one for big bores only should be a viable option.) -Membership options are rather expensive and incur a contract commitment or you're charged a cancellation fee and may not get a full refund. -They have guns, gear, ammo and accessories, they're an FFL dealer, and they offer various classes. -They regularly have all kinds of events and raffles. **EVERY purchase (lane rental, clothing, targets, everything), membership, check-in to shoot...everything is recorded under your name and stored in their records (which is a red flag, if privacy in the age of the Internet is meaningful to you!). Having been a member for more than a full year, I'd say shop around, because there are safer, less expensive, more suitable options out there. read more

wanted to update my 5 star review with another 5 star review. since the last time i review Crossroads, i have gone shooting a handful of times, purchased one handgun, purchased ammunition, and recently took a Defensive Shooting course. the staff continues to be friendly and helpful. The Defensive Shooting course i took was amazing, very worthwhile, and improved my shooting technique in just a few hours. i would recommend this class for anyone who carries a handgun whether concealed daily or at home for protection. it will help you hit people you intend to hit and not hit those you do not intend to hit. This place is awesome!! It has been so hard for me to find a decent indoor shooting range, but this one blows every other one I have been too out of the water. The staff is extremely knowledgeable. If you are interested in taking any courses or learning about the different types of guns and ammo they listen enthusiastically and will answer what ever questions you may have. If you don't own a gun, ammo, safety gear etc. that is totally okay, because everything is available to rent (and it's not astronomically expensive). The range, environment and people are great. However if you are looking to purchase ammo, guns or any type of accessories for your firearm they charge a premium. This goes for any type of gun smith work you need done. They just charged me more money to have something just looked at than what I paid to have some wielding done at another shop. It is a fine range, but everything they offer is over priced, and now they want to charge you a fee to do an annual waiver. Then when you say you'd rather not spend $12 for their online waiver they will then inform you of a paper one for $3.50. Why is the physical one a different price? Let alone cheaper? As a woman with very little gun experience or knowledge, I was extremely hesitant to even try handling a gun. My husband finally talked me into going there, after a year of trying, and I honestly cant say enough good things about them to do the experience justice. When we arrived, I told them I knew very little about guns so they took me into a training room and taught me using a training gun (a gun that doesn't actually shoot bullets). We went over how to pick up the gun, stance, how to hold the weapon, all of the important things and made me feel much more comfortable about handling a real gun, and --this is HUGE for me -- didn't make me feel stupid. The whole experience was empowering and I cant wait to go back and shoot the gun we bought today. So much better than I could have possibly imagined. read more
