Mike was a referral from a neighbor who stated that he knew Mike for a long time and that he was a good guy. My neighbor explained the scope of the job to him before I explained the job a little more in detail. Mike gave me a quote over the phone and told me that it was a verbal agreement. He also stated that he was booked solid but came out the next day anyway. His crew showed up bright and early ready to work. We walked around to look at the work to be performed and the only negative thing he said to me was that he didn't know that the garage was so high which has 10 foot walls. I had to go out of town for work around lunchtime so I told Mike that my wife will pay him while I'm away when he's finished. He stated that he'll finish installing the roof shingles but will have to come back on some other Saturday to finish the rest of the work on the fascia, soffit and ridge vents. I told him that would be fine. I arrived home a day later and text Mike asking him when he would be able to return to finish the job so we can be on the same page. He told me that before he comes out again, I will have to pay him almost double the price he originally quoted or he's not coming. That's not how you treat your customers especially a disabled veteran. He should have told me that the price needed to be adjusted before starting the job and not complete just some of the work. He also had ample amount of opportunity to say something when I talked to him on their lunch break so that's twice. Now I'm stuck with either paying someone else, paying him more for something we've already agreed to or doing the job myself. I can't afford to pay him or anyone else more than what I have in my budget so I'll just screw it up myself. This was a horrible experience and totally unacceptable! I would not recommend Crotchett Construction! A man is only as good as his word so thanks for not honoring your word Mike. read more
