Maintenance requests take far too long to handle, and serious problems like mold haven't been properly addressed. Communication is poor, and we've felt uneasy about the people they send out to inspect instead of qualified maintenance staff. Scam Alert: Avoid This Company I was approved for a unit and in the process of moving in when this company suddenly told me they no longer owned the property. I had already paid a $1,650 deposit, and they completely ghosted me afterward. When I went to their office to request copies of the paperwork I signed, the woman at the front desk yelled at me, questioned why I was there, and refused to provide anything. She seemed angry, as if they didn't want me catching them in the act of fraud. (I even uploaded a photo of her sitting in the back at her computer so you are aware of who is acting unprofessional in that office). The new owners emailed them multiple times asking for my deposit to be transferred so I could move in -- they ignored every message. They also refused to communicate with the housing authority. It's clear this company is fraudulent and possibly going bankrupt, trying to steal deposits from approved applicants. Do not send them any money. We cleaned everything they told us needed to be cleaned and they acted like the house needs to look like no one lives there. Good luck trying to get an appointment to view an available property. Maybe they are understaffed. Maybe because Crown is cheap and doesn't want to hire any more employees. We did hear from someone familiar with them that the only way to get their attention is to fill out an application and pay the fee. Then they are kind of obligated to show you the property. But, what if you see the property and it is not in as good shape as the photos, or it smells, whatever, you don't get that application fee back. Seems like a scam to me. This company racially discriminated against us, as a biracial couple. Me and my boyfriend (who is black), had an appointment to meet luke. Who showed up in flip flops claiming to be looking for the lock box. It was clear there was never a lock box. Like he was supposed to have a key. He said he was going to check the back door (like their has ever been a lockbox in the back). Then he called someone and started punching in numbers to the garage pad. Which still didn't work. So he said he could run and get the key, but it would take 45 minutes. We asked if he could send us a tour video later. He said yes and we rescheduled for Wednesday (the soonest he said he could do) Not even 30 minutes later I got an email that the price dropped. Which I thought weird, since their were already people interested in it. I didn't hear from Luke all weekend. No tour video. Until he left a voicemail with me saying they already showed the place, and took an app on it. And they only allow one app at a time. So he would go ahead and cancel the appointment. I left a review on Google. Just one. A very honest AND TRUE review. Which the company was able to get taken down by reporting it as harassment. Still no one has reached out though to explanation how this has happened, or offer any sort of apology for completely wasting our time and racially discriminating against my boyfriend. read more

I applied, I was approved for a unit with no locks on the windows on February 4th. Today is March 1st. After 3 weeks of no maintenance order...I finally figured out the problem. Why did it take 3 weeks? Because they don't answer the phone, return phone messages, or emails. After 3 wks, someone answered the phone. Like every other time, instead putting any effort into it, I was told once again...the office lady didn't know and was not walking 5 feet to ask any questions. After getting a hold of maintenance ourselves, we found out there was no maintenance order. Keep in mind, this is a $3 purchase at home Depot and less than 5 minutes to install. It would require literally 6-8 screws. A week later, we have to call again. Now we are dealing with maintenance because the other people we've reached out to are incompetent and unwilling to get out of their office chair. Maintenance says another week or so. I'm DONE!! The only good thing about this company is they showed me who they were before my house flooded or some other unforseen issue...like a fire from the ancient floor board heaters or the "unusable fireplaces" and the stack of wood outside the unit that I would assume is for looks? I've tlk to other people renting from them. Good luck. You may or may not be kept in a livable situation. Word on the street is you may or may not have working appliances ‍ SO after a month, my application fee is nonrefundable and I'd get more help if I were houseless. I've resended my application and have zero interest in ever being shafted by these people again. My burning question is, why are you renting out apartments that aren't even remotely secure? As an owner of a few rental properties, I know it can be tough to manage the many issues and I try hard to make sure my properties and tenants are good neighbors. It can be be work. I've unfortunately encountered Crown property management as they manage a small plex next to my house in Independence. Consistently their landscaper blows garbage into my yard. If that's not frustrating enough, between our two properties is an alley. Their tenants continually park their vehicles in the alley on my property. I've tried numerous times to get them to handle this since my talking to the tenant gets no resolve. I get no communication back from them. In 2017, we hired Crown Management to lease out and manage our house in Salem while we were living out of state. We decided to go with Kent Mack and Crown after interviewing several companies. In less than a month, Kent had found a tenant who leased the house at our full asking price until the fall of 2019. Kent or his assistant Karen were always available for our questions or when issues with the house arose. They understand that quick response is always a concern for a tenant or a landlord and we think they did a very good job repairing the odd water leak or replacing appliances as needed. As the end of the lease came in sight, some difficult issues arose which had us perplexed. Fortunately, we could rely on Kent's expert advice. Without his input, which was invaluable and freely given, we could not have navigated the end of lease successfully. When it came time for us to move back in, the cleanup job was excellent. Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service, I have called them for over a year about the ridiculous amounts of noise from 11pm until 7 am from my neighbors and the first time in over 13 years I was one day late with rent 'Nicole' threatened to evict me!! They STILL have done nothing about the noise! I deal with this every single night it's absurd! They continue to tell me "it's a process" and they can't tell me what is being done due to privacy act but COME ON!!! And to make things even more interesting I called the cops 5 times in ONE NIGHT because the neighbors kept banging on the wall and finally they made me so mad I slapped the wall with an open hand @ 6am! I went to check out the Colonial Apartments on Wallace Rd N.W by the 7-11 by Roth's. We parked at the 7-11 to get the kids something to snack on as we were searching for apartments all day. Crown Property Mang takes care of this property. As we were walking in along the very first apartments I believe #1 apartment I hear my oldest yell NO!! NO!! I look back my 3 year old had a hand full of cigarette butts in his hand ready to eat them. Upon inspection of the ground you see about a MILLION cigarette butts all over the ground outside the apartments in the first building. Paper cups thrown on the ground. A beer bottle and more crap. Trash all the way up the sidewalk leading to the office. Which had a CLOSED sign on it at 2pm on a Tuesday afternoon. Despite the HUGE RED FLAGS.. We decided to walk the property. 2 U-Haul trucks with family's moving out. I asked one family why they were moving. They said the owners of the property are gouging people. Their rents were raised over 100.00 per month within one year. My wife wanted to leave right away. The property was filthy. Kids screaming and loud music. We decided to look in the laundry room. It looked like a bomb went off. Dirt and trash all over the floor. Machines were dirty and gross. Several were pulled out with the cords hung over the tops of them. Needless to say.
