The basement is also nice if you want to lift heavy. The times I went had little to no people, so that was a plus (if you just wanna get in and out). Also, I don't know what people consider "clean", but one of the reasons I love the place is because its "gritty", so don't expect shiny equipment. The owner is nice enough, just don't "cross" him by going to a different gym, and you'll be fine.

In July, I purchased a $700 pass for 10 personal training sessions as part of a "summer special", with the promise that a master's-educated trainer would be available. Unfortunately, that trainer never started working at the gym, and I was not informed of this until late September--months after waiting and following up. Despite knowing my schedule, Randy repeatedly suggested trainers who were already fully booked. He then set me up with an unqualified intern who worked at the front desk. When I expressed my concerns, he acknowledged that this wasn't acceptable and offered Pilates as an alternative. However, that turned out to be another false promise, as no sessions or teachers were actually available. After months of back and forth and empty promises, I requested a refund, as it was clear I was not receiving the services I had paid for. Randy initially agreed but then delayed the refund, citing financial excuses like needing to wait until after the "metro gala." By November, I still hadn't received my money, and he stopped responding to my calls and texts entirely. Now it is mid January. This has been a frustrating and disheartening experience, especially as someone in a low-paying position after completing graduate school. I share this in hopes of warning others about this gym and Randy's business practices. If anyone has advice on handling situations like this, I would greatly appreciate your guidance. As an aside, I had a bad experience with a trainer there who was really creepy and asked extremely personal questions. Most of the gym is dedicated to the personal training space. There are never wipes or cleaning supplies convenient or restocked to clean equipment after use.

I latter asked him if he was getting personal training. He told me he asked the owner if he could help him with his deadlift and instead he took an hour of his time to help him out. Hercules is an old school powerlifting/strong man gym with dumbbells up to 200lbs. It has a ton of 45lbs plates, even 55lbs competition plates, and several 100lbs plates. Along with a ton of machines and equipment. It has a small membership base, so you are not waiting on equipment even on peak hours. Not to mention you can go 24/7. It welcomes all types of lifters. I have been with the gym since before it moved to the current location and that's 5 years or so. If your thinking about it, just DO IT!

It's a side effect of lifting heavy things. Some times they drop and go boom. Sorry if the big noise bothers any one. You could always try lifting some thing "heavy" I hear it relieves stress.

I came to the gym for a 3 day-free membership pass to see if it was a gym I was interested in. The day I came in, which was the day the gym called me to come in, happened to be their last day to sign up for a pass with their discount. You sign up online and have to wait for a phone call to get an appointment to come into the gym to get a tour and then the 3-day pass. I was asked about my fitness goals and why I had those goals. This location only has cycle classes (no other group classes). The gym is extremely clean and has everything you'd need. They have cross fit stuff and things like kettle bells, weighted balls, boxes to jump on, etc. Their other locations have more group fitness classes. I didn't like the setup of how it coincidentally was their last day to sign up for the membership deal on the day they set up the appointment with me and I didn't like how much pressure I felt to sign up that day. I said I wanted to try the group fitness classes before signing up (hence I wanted the 3 day pass). The person I met with replied with "sounds like you're already going to sign up based on what you're saying, so why not sign up right now?" I wanted to go to this location because it's closer for me but it didn't fit my needs because of their lack of group classes and their shorter weekend hours (Sunday it's open only until 1PM). Also, they don't have a private parking lot. You need to pay the meter for street parking if you're parking before 6PM. It's normally $99 for enrollment (for the "keep fit" membership) and then $19.99 a month for membership but you can get the membership for $19 instead of $99 if you sign up by today (7/31). The VIP membership is normally $299 for 12 months (must pay up front) but today it's $199. After that year, your membership auto-renews for $8.25/month. You don't get the 3-day pass easily. They automatically set you up with a check-in appointment at the end of the 3 days to see how you liked your 3-days. I've never seen a gym that had such a hands-on free day pass before (value of $60).

Instead, it is a huge open set of areas, including a path through the trees. You need to ensure your pup has good recall, likes to stay around you, or you'll need to make sure they are on a leash. I have only had a few hiccups here is with people not being the best trained. One person, without a dog, was just giving treats to all dogs that came up to them which was a bit frustrating and a bad behavior to teach. Also, people are terrible about picking up poop. You'll find dog poop and bags of dog poop everywhere--some of this I will blame on the park as its huge and there are only 2 places to put it. However. Its a huge place for my dog to run and he enjoys it-- and so do we, and as a bonus, he sleeps the rest of the day.

There's an overlook near the entrance where you can get a glimpse of the waterfall. However, the falls are also within walking distance of the start of the trail. The hill is on a slant and there are steep stairs, so the view may not be accessible for those who have difficulty walking. However, it was so calming just to sit and watch and listening to the waterfall. The day I went, there were others out but the paths didn't feel claustrophobic. I took some time and walked through the woods. The trail I took was relatively short, I think about a half mile total. I appreciated that there was a marker at the start that let you know how long it was. I am by no means a regular hiker (hoping to change that one day!) but this trail wasn't exhausting and was quite serene. This is a great park with a great waterfall and is definitely worth checking out!

What better place to do it than at a park. Especially one that has so much to offer. When I arrived I came at this park from the intersection of Madison & Ostrom. When I came here it was bit off putting to me as it was where the intersection was a bit wonky that allowed for vehicular to enter the park. So you needed to watch while you walking that no traffic was coming, or just walk about the grass, which is what I did. Being from out of town I had no idea what this park had to offer overall but I did do a lot of exploring which led me to a lot of different areas. I first just walked through the fields and along the tree lines. I backtracked a bit and stumbled upon the pool area. From there, I found the amphitheater and hung around there for a bit. After that, I found the football field and saw a lot of people using it for multiple reasons. From exercising, playing with their dogs, flying drones and many other things. I ended my time in the park at the rose garden. Roses were still coming into bloom, but I didn't mind that. I looked around at the different varieties of roses they had planted. I then sat on a bench for a few minutes to just take in this portion of the park. When I left, I was off towards Syracuse University campus. This park is enormous, and I am glad I was able to spend some time here.

It's a really nice, open park with lots of space to walk around. I do wish they had some sidewalks or something along the roads going up or down the hills, but that's one of the few issues I can think of. The park is maintained well, has a lovely rose garden (one of my friends volunteers here regularly, actually, which is how I found out about the park - they have a "Rose Day" in mid-June to celebrate, and I'm told that timing is mainly because that's when the roses are usually at their peak), and lots of fun features - like the amphitheater area, where my dog was especially interested in watching some folks who were preparing for a summer play. There's a pool area as well, tennis courts, concession area, and so on... and my pup especially seemed to love rolling down the hills just below the Thornden Park Water Tower (pictures included in this review, of course). It's worth noting that I *have* had a couple slightly sketchy experiences here... including one time being followed around by another park goer who seemed to be experiencing some mental health issues. As with anywhere, just be mindful of your surroundings.

To Those Committed to Great Golf Experiences:…read more On Friday 9/1/2023, we played Green Lakes State Park Golf Course. I booked a tee time 7 days in advance and there was only a single open tee time available on Friday at 2:20 PM going into a busy Labor Day weekend. When we arrived at 12:20 PM a cancellation had just occurred and the PGA Professional Jeff Carson was kind enough to let us take the open time at 12:30 PM. His offer was much appreciated since we drove 2 hours and 20 minutes one-way from the Albany area and planned to return after golfing. The park and the grounds in the area of the golf course are in extraordinarily great condition that reflected a truly strong commitment to a regular schedule of well-timed and planned maintenance and upkeep. Green Lake State Park Golf Course stands out as one of the best, if not the finest, golf courses we have played in the last 10 years and that includes both public and private courses. We play between 50 and 75 rounds of golf in a typical year. The place is absolutely in immaculate and outstanding condition. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were perfectly groomed and manicured, the rough was fairly deep and challenging and the greens, well the greens were simply amazing; fast, very undulating with many severe and challenging breaks that were difficult to read, but the putting was quite fast and very true. The traps were well raked and maintained with ample amounts of sand. The layout was designed by famed golf course architect Robert Trent Jones in circa 1930 and he made full use of a dramatically beautiful wooded landscape with severe elevation changes to create a challenging (but fair) exciting layout that is as stimulating to play as it is beautiful to observe with its many scenic views of Green Lake and the surrounding forest where the park is located. The par 3's were all challenging, well protected by bunkers, but set at fair yardage lengths. The par 5's ranked among some of the most interesting holes on the course due to their dramatic changes in elevation and the par 4's were all reasonably long, often with doglegs that required executing difficult approach shots to well-bunkered greens and tough pin placements. The greens are a wide variety of sizes, but every one was rolling fast and loaded with interesting undulations, unusually large and sometimes multiple breaks, and great, very challenging, but fair pin placements. The course was in perfect condition and this would have been challenging enough to maintain if this were a lightly played private country club course, but this is a very fairly priced, extremely well-played, busy public golf course in a desirable State Park setting. The golf course is itself nothing short of a real jewel that NYS should be proud to list among its finest State Park golf offerings. The golf course, as great and enjoyable as it was, is only part of the story. I believe the clubhouse and all of the amenities went through a significant remodeling project in 2015 or 2016 and the end result is a really nice bar and a well run restaurant that offers a terrific menu with great drinks and an awesome view of Green Lake from the veranda located at an elevated point maybe 150 to 200 feet above the lake itself. The renovations to the facility and all the surrounding amenities just added to the first rate dining and golf experience. The restaurant/bar concession is known as Yards Grill and it is exceptionally well run with great food and well made drinks and a sizable menu with a wide range of meal choices. The one thing I would like to stress and add to this review is that this kind of experience doesn't just happen by accident. It begins and ends with the commitment the NY State Parks Department is making to have Green Lake State Park be an amazing destination and a truly great golf experience. That could not be reflected better than by the current PGA Professional Jeff Carson and the commitment of his entire dedicated team who operate and maintain this wonderful facility. Even on what had to be one of their busiest days, they operate a golf facility in a manner that is professional, friendly, kind, considerate, and truly customer service focused and oriented and from what we experienced and saw while we were there, that approach applies whether you are golfing there on a regular daily basis or just visiting on an occasional trip like we did. Kudos to Jeff Carson, the PGA Professional, and all involved with his team and thank you for a truly great golfing experience that stands out and will be memorable for a long time in the future. I cannot give Green Lakes State Park Golf Course a stronger recommendation or a higher rating to anyone who loves to play golf. This place is a 10 on a 5 scale in my book and this rating is truly well-earned and richly deserved! You won't regret playing at Green Lakes State Park Golf Course and/or eating at Yards Grill.
