In 2017, he added new hardwood to the extension of the house to match the original 1956 floors. They match perfectly. In 2025, he came back because of the Eaton Fire. Hate to write this because Carlos was a nice guy.. but I Hired these guys and thought they did an amazing job until much later I put a flashlight to the floor (I had a very dark stain done on my floors and the room does not have much natural sunlight..and could see sander swirl marks all over the entire project area Cruz hardwood installed. Another professional said these were caused by misuse of sanders with too much pressure/wrong grit, etc , basically amateur Mickey Mouse execution.. sucks that it's been a long time now and nothing can be done to fix the issue without completely doing it over.. I just can't believe they could finish the hardwood clearly seeing all the swirl marks and still proceed.. shocking.. bummer! Just be very careful and extremely meticulous and thorough with the final check! I had removed an extension (2' x 4') from a desk to open up a Den area. Once removed I discovered when the oak flooring was installed it didi not extend beneath the cabinet. So left with a bare area on our concrete slab i contacted Carlos, he came out within a day and reviewed what needed to be done and what problems he might encounter in matching up the stain in a new portion of a 12 year old installation. He then provided his estimate with a complete description of all work to be accomplished. Carlos expertly wove in the new flooring and suggested sanding and staining a much smaller area than planned. His suggestion worked out brilliantly and the repair looks as if it had been originally installed and his estimate was reduced. These guys did a bang up job of my new floor. End product is a non-level floor with bowing and warping in many places. Installed base trim that wasn't aligned, refused to caulk the gaps they left. During the job demolition they broke my garage door, and left trash in my front yard, and killed a few of my plants because they were using my lawn as a lay-down area for material. Was told after the job was complete that I could cover the uneven areas of the floor with rugs, or sand down the entire floor for a level surface in the future. HUH? I suppose I'm the idiot for agreeing too pay in full. Not happy with the result, tho. At my place, Carlos removed the old carpeting (that was at least 35 years old) and replaced 60+ damaged boards in 3 bedrooms. It would have been many more boards had it been left up to me, but he advised that I check these boards as work stages were completed. A few years ago My wife and I moved into our nearly 100 year old tudor house in Pasadena. One immediate issue was the damaged kitchen tile floor. After crews removed over one inch of cracked Tile, motar, old tile, more motar and wonderboard what was left was the original wood floor. As excited as we were to find the original wood it was in dire need of restoration. We contact Carlos Cruz of Cruz Harwood Flooring and he gently walked us through the whole process. We debated about staining the wood a dark color to match the rest of the house (laminate) floor but in the end we settled on clear finish for a Patina appearance. Carlos was in complete agreement with our decision. He did suggest adding just a touch of orange and wow we couldn't be happier with the results. I've worked with Carlos and his team in the past, but leaving another top rating because of the project he just completed helping to restore and add new hardwood floors to my house. Over the years, I've gotten a general sense from from various specialists that they tend to either be 1) just starting out, and work very hard on the project to build experience and a client base, but don't necessarily have the experience to troubleshoot every problem that comes up or 2) are seasoned pros, who can help creatively troubleshoot any problem, but sometimes get bored with the rote details. Carlos is the best combination of both - a true pro who knows flooring inside and out, but also personally works hard to ensure the job is done right, and according to what the client wants. For example, he and his team helped me find solutions to a non-level floor, a section of dry rot in the foundation, a loose door threshold, and several awkward room transitions, all in addition to putting in and finishing the floors themselves.
