Great affordable house painting option. What we were looking for: full coverage color drenching for an older home that needed a clean slate. Walls, baseboards, trim, door and ceiling all the same color but in different sheens. We were not looking for craftsmanship we just didn't have the man hours to get the job done. What we got: fantastic work for the price. All doors, trim, baseboards and ceiling were sprayed. We had a large ceiling crack and cracks around the window frames from settling... all were patched and look great. The work was done in three days. We used sherwin williams Greek villa. Company/ Alberto: easy to work with, knowledgable, English and Spanish speaking. Great hardworking guy. Considerations: because this house will be renovated overspray on flooring, cabinets, and fixtures were a non issue. However, we did not experience any over spray or damaged fixtures as other previously reported in older reviews. We checked on the house one evening as saw everything was tarped off great. It is unclear to me how Cruz Painting is an operating business with positive reviews. I know it's common to ignore the one negative review a yelper has left among the sea of positive reviews, but I would strongly encourage you to read my key reasons you should avoid using this company (listed below) before conducting business with Cruz Painting. I don't know that I've ever been more disappointed by a service provider, or that I've had to undergo such extensive and expensive remediation for the damage caused by a company. We spent +$5,000 (yes, thousands) correcting the damage they did to our home. Here are the key reasons you should avoid using Cruz Painting: (1) The work is sloppy. Think drip marks, paint splatter, paint on fixtures, broken fixtures, unfilled nail holes, damage to your hardwood floors. (2) They use cheap paint, cheap masking tape, and neither sticks to the walls. (3) THEY CUT (MIX) PAINT FROM OTHER JOBS INTO YOUR PAINT TO KEEP THEIR COSTS DOWN. You'll be charged full price for the paint, but YOUR WALLS/HOUSE WILL BE THE WRONG COLOR. This was confirmed/validated by several other painters. (4) They only do ONE coat of paint, and get overspray all over cabinets, floors, tile, etc. and you'll be scrubbing your floors for weeks to get rid of the paint splatter... if it even comes off. (5) They'll lose the screws and parts to every single fixture they remove (if they even remove them), break fixtures, and you'll be required to buy new fixtures for every single room of the house. (6) The screws and bolts from all your fixtures will end up the floor and under the "protection" plastic, which will cause hardwood floor damage and endless dents in the wood as the painters walk on them. (7) They're unbelievably dishonest and when you try to address the above items with their owner, he'll walk out on the job leaving you with a huge mess. I think what was initially so frustrating about this company was that we were willing to pay for premium paint and willing to pay extra to have nail holes and patches fixed and fixtures removed (not taped off), but they still tried to cheap out on the job and screw us over. Instead of working with us to adjust the cost of their initial bid the owner Alberto Cruz told us we were too hard to please and walked out on the job. As a result of the damage they caused we had to delay our move into the house by over a month and spent over $5k on repairs. You can see from my almost 200 reviews on Yelp that I'm not that person that only leaves a review when something bad happens or I have a negative experience. I'm an honest reviewer and always try to give companies the benefit of the doubt. In the beginning I thought Cruz Painting maybe sent us their "B" or "C" crew, but later realized this is just how they conduct business. They not only are the nicest people on the planet but they do an excellent job. I had them paint the inside of my house and repair some work that another painter had done. My house looks so wonderful and all that have seen it say that the colors are perfect, which Cris Cruz helped me choose, and that the quality of work is so good. Cris even did a walk through when all was completed. There was not one drip or over spray and they helped me move my furniture and put it back and even some of my decorating items. I was so impressed. I plan to hire them to paint the outside as well. They also painted my dad's house and with the same results. Here are the pros & cons. PROS: Alberto gave us a fair price and stayed within budget; they started by power-washing & caulking & hammering in old nails - just really great prep work; they completed the entire job really fast; his crew arrived early each morning and stayed until mid-afternoon; they left no trace they were there - no trash; their attention to detail was incredible - every small thing was painted perfectly including trim, our dog door, old gutters, electric boxes, etc.; when they were done, I actually had to keep asking Alberto when I could pay him - he was more concerned about giving us an excellent paint job rather than making a buck. Alberto's son is such a pleasure to work with throughout the process - such a nice guy who really cares. CONS: During our bid, Alberto said he would primer the bottom of our house before they paint; however, they definitely did not primer it (we asked his crew when we got home and they confirmed no primer). After getting several quotes from other painting companies, I decided to call "Cruz Painting Services." Alberto, the owner of the business, drove to my house on the same day. He was very knowledgeable about the painting business and gave me a quote after looking at the inside of my rental house (I wanted the entire inside of the house painted). I must say, it was a very affordable quote that included quality paint from a local (and well known) paint store. At the agreed upon date, Albert and his crew of 2 painters, came to the house early and ready to work. The house was empty so I went home and caught up on some paper work. Alberto called at the end of the day to say his crew would finish up the next day. I drove to the house to inspect their work. I was pleased to see the prepraration was extremely meticulous in the following manner: the rugs were fully coverd with plastic; all fixtures were covered or taken down and wrapped in plastic; all appliances were moved and covered, in short, the whole house was covered carefully and expertly. They came back the next day to complete the job. At the end of this day, Alberto called so I could inspect the final work. I was extremely impressed with the quality of the work. They not only painted the entire inside of the house, but also painted the base boards and doors to each room. They painted inside each bedroom closet as well as the hall closet. To say that I was impressed is an understatement. There was not one drop of spilled paint anywhere in the house. The quality of their work said it all. We got bids from three painting contractors to paint the outside of our two story home. All three contractors quoted the services the same, but Cruz Painting was the lowest estimate. Alberto came out to provide a quote on the same day I called. He was very kind and did not charge extra for using different accent colors. One of the other contractors charged extra for this. Alberto tends to say a lot "whatever you want, we'll do it!" He offered to sample different colors for me in order to choose, but he showed me some palates that went well with the style of our home and choosing was easy. A crew of four painters came out to do the job. They were all very detail oriented and performed exceptional work fixing any loose facia boards, caulking and filling joints and fastener holes. The crew cleaned up at the end of each work day, and arrived to the house first thing in the morning and went to work without disrupting our routines. The end result is a beautiful house with a much improved curb appeal. Our neighbors love the change, too and several asked for our painter's business card. Bottom line up front: They did a half-assed job scraping and caulking. Alberto said the exterior paint job would take Thursday to Saturday, but they had another job that cancelled Friday morning, so there were eight guys here swarming over the house. They got the job done on Friday, which sounds good, but, in fact, the quality of the work was poor. I thought the original quote was a little high, but the company had been recommended to me by a contractor friend so I went with it - mainly because Alberto promised that all scraping of old paint and caulking was included. Two guys scraped two sides of the house for a couple of hours on Thursday, but once the eight guys showed up Friday morning, they were in paint mode, and, with the exception of scraping on the second floor eaves, nothing else was scraped on the house. So they ended up painting over flaking paint on the 60-year old cedar siding. I'm glad I have extra paint, because I know I'll be using it as the loose paint falls off. Also, I noticed they caulked beneath the bottom trim on two windows, and I told Alberto this should not be done because any water that gets behind the trim is now trapped. He wanted to argue with me, then told his guys something about "las ventanas" and I think they quit caulking any of the window trim. A few days after they were done, I spent a morning caulking the windows they didn't do. Finally, when they finished spraying paint Friday afternoon, they weren't careful pulling down tape and plastic around the windows, and they pulled off the new paint in a number of spots. I had to touch up all those spots later. In hindsight, I feel like I got ripped off. As any newly painted house will, it looked good when they finished, so I gave them the check. Upon up close inspection (on top of a ladder), I could see they rushed the job, and the quality suffered. read more

I have experience with building businesses here in Reno, and I have a paint sub contractor working for my company (we're backed up and I didn't want to take our guys away from their projects); however, I might see if Cruz painting is interested in future work for me? Alberto and his painters were amazing, polite and professional. First, I called Alberto he scheduled an estimate appointment. He showed up when we had scheduled, and gave me a estimate and thorough description of the work and timeline. His painters stayed on it until the exterior of the house was complete. They prepped the house for paint, power washing, patching of cracks in stucco, sanding wood flashing and trim work. Also they removed exterior light fixtures and installed new ones I had purchased for after the painting was completed. He explained we have to remove the old ones let us put on the new ones since half the work had to be done anyhow. Also we completely changed the color of our home(main body, trim, gutters, and doors), as I said replaced lights and they also installed shutters I had purchased to install after painting as well. Wow, I wish they had sent the same crew members to my house. The ones I had are very sloppy. Paint on my floors, new counter tops, cabinets and kitchen table. Appears they didn't know how to cut in as ceiling one color overlaps wall. Always left a big mess that is how I know paint was on the kitchen table, floors ect. We've lived in Spanish Springs (Sparks) for 4 years. I've used the services of two painting outfits--one for a big indoor job and for exterior trim on our house; the other for a large metal shed in our back yard. I won't name them, but we found both to be disappointing. I did a web search and found Cruz Painting Services and thought I'd get a bid, knowing what a couple of different neighbors paid for their houses this summer. Alberto came over, looked everything over; made suggestions about prep work and offered a price in the range of the others I knew about. He doesn't ever water his paint down, not something I can say about at least one of the outfits we used. They started with an all-over power-wash, followed by copious caulking and even a little Bondo repair in one spot. He even brought over some plywood sheets to protect roofing during some of the work up there. My home is now truly beautiful and it looks like new. All the detail work is perfection and they even did some concrete/stucco pilasters and walls that I hadn't thought about, including them in the job. I will use these guys again.
