I was last in the nutmeg stage way back in 2022 when some friends and I drove to Manchester to check this place out, well, we should have checked the hours because it was closed and I wanted to cry. Well, now it's 2026 and a buddy of mine made sure we came on a day they were actually opened and I'm sure glad we did. This store is absolutely perfect from the first room full of arcade machines, on card action figures, and random toys to the video game room full of classics from the Dreamcast, GameCube, and even modern switch stuff. The last room here is vintage shirts and such which I didn't spend much time glancing at, but was a cool edition. It was cool seeing a place in Connecticut filled with old WWF stuff, Big Bad Beetle Borgs, Nintendo Powers, and tons and tons of figures, I wish this place was here when I lived in the area a decade ago. Overall, this is definitely one of my new favourite spots on Connecticut and definitely somewhere I'll be shopping at again on future trips. Even though I left empty handed (can only fit so much back to LA) I already look forward to coming back.

Super fun to browse and look at many things from my childhood. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Their selection of items is huge; video games, action figures and items from the 80s and 90s. Value depends on what you purchase. Video games ranged from $4.99-$13. Collector items are worth more so you'll spend more.

A few weeks ago I was back in the nutmeg and when I realized I was in the area, I made it a point to check this shop out once again. Strange enough, I now live in Los Angeles so I frequent the SoCal locations when I can and was stoked to see what this one had to offer. This shop has some arcade machines in the front, a very solid movie selection, retro toys for sale, and of course, a bunch of retro video games, accessories, and consoles to pick up if thats what you need. My current "looking for" list is pretty much just Gamecube games and Criterion Blu Rays, so I was super stoked to stumble across a copy of The Graduate when I didn't see any Gamecube games I was looking for. Like all retro stores, prices here can vary and can sometimes be good and sometimes be bad, things were pretty reasonably prices on this trip and I left a happy camper. Overall, Retro Games Plus is one of the better game stores in Connecticut and thanks to Game Exchange becoming a slop factory, definitely the best in this area. The staff here is knowledgable, the selection is great, and even if you can't find a game, you are sure to find something else when you stop by.

They also sell shirts mimicking nostalgia. They even have arcades that are blast from the past that patrons come to play classic games on. Arthur is a good guy. They may not have many video games from some video game consoles to sell but they have everything. They do have cool GameCube controllers here. Movies are really pricey though. They don't have too many kids films but those shelves are filled with mainly feature films for everyone of all ages. I like Retro Junk in Manchester better just because they have some really cool stuff that I think are eye appealing and are fun to browse there plus DVDs are somewhat cheaper there.

Its sad that it had to come to this but here's what happened. I contacted their comic store after I…read moresaw that they made a post about buying Funko Pop collections. I asked if they are buying all categories of pops since I know for a while they weren't buying Marvel, DC, Star Wars etc.. He responded and I quote "Yes, We will buy it all". I was glad to hear that and I responded that I would make it there in a week or so since I needed to make arrangements for babysitter & vehicle for transporting the pops. They next responded to call before I show up just to make sure they are still purchasing Funko pops , which I said that I understood. I called a few days ahead, and then called again a day after to remind them I was bringing a 500 piece collection on Saturday morning at 10am. They said that's fine and we will make sure someone is there to help you. I spent hours packing the pops into several boxes and getting them into the van. I was able to borrow a van from someone and find a babysitter last minute so I could do this on my only day off since it was a 4 hour round trip. I drive to their store and tell them I'm the one who called several times and messaged them about my pop collection for sale. The says okay but we are not buying marvel, DC, Star Wars, etc.& that they were not buying any pops over 4" which nobody told me before that moment. I was so baffled that I couldn't believe I heard what he just said to me after all of the communication we had for several days. He said they recently purchased too many pops and are only looking for certain ones. which is fine but why didn't they tell me that in the first place? They obviously have every right to buy whatever they want but to do this to people is just wrong. Then the worker (who was rude in my opinion) made negative remark about every pop that I decided to bring in. I only brought in 2 small boxes at first just to give them an idea of what I had. The guy actually wanted me to lug in all 500 pops so he could cherry pick what he wanted after everything they did to me that morning. After I left I messaged their Facebook account to express my displeasure and all he said was that he was sorry for the mixup. he didnt try to rectify it in anyway or make good on what happened (which I would have respected greatly). I never write reviews like this ever and I'm mad I even have to write it since it seems like a cool place but it just wasn't right what they did, that's bad business.

GameCube bundle, with 2 GC systems (admittedly one without cables, but both fully operations), something like 20 GC (run of the mill) games, 2 memory cards, 2 Gameboy adapters CIB with the discs, 5 controllers, wireless adapter, along with some vintage Gameboy Advance boxes for some premium games. Probably if parsed, an $800 value. Understanding the place has to make money on it, guy offers me "like $100 bucks". Ridiculous offer, like I was a crackhead. The unfortunate part is, I've been here several times, and enjoy the selection, and the prices on the used stuff are good. But after being treated like a junkie looking for fast cash, I'll never come back. Thing is, I was willing to use this as trade-in value to put BACK into the store. Called around locally, and got several better offers, and proceeded to even go onto sellmygames.com and had an offer for $450 for everything. Thanks GameXChange, but I'll go to Stateline, ebay, or for that matter, FB marketplace... anywhere else. Avoid at all cost. Oh, and I copied in their website pic, offering the best in trade-in. Might want to change that GameXchange, since that's obviously not the case. Manage and train your people. Happy to discuss if this was just a blip on the radar.

Dan had a great playlist. It was definitely nicer and cleaner than the Wallingford location. I used to love this place. Dan and Renna are amazing. But apparently this company doesn't value their employees. Ever since the assistant manager from Wallingford has been here it's been a nightmare. I had terrible experiences with Wallingford but apparently this store is turning into the same atmosphere as Wallingford. I do not plan to shop here anymore. A once amazing gaming store with an amazing store manager is now just a mediocre store with overpriced games and items. I shopped here because I liked the environment and customer service. You have messy workers who tell company business. I'm very disappointed. I've attached a pic of a console and game that I bought while Dan worked there. It's memories like this you can't replace. Not many workers are knowledgeable of retro games.

I bought majority of my boyfriends big presents here considering he is a video game collector and I know they have a WIDE variety, especially in horror games which is my boyfriends favorite genre. I was worried going into the store that because I was a girl that I would not get as much help (which happens at a lot of retro video game stores unfortunately), but they were so helpful and made sure to give me prices for everything and search for any game I was looking for. They actually gave me a super good deal on my stuff, I got a Dreamcast keyboard in box for $60, Parasite Eve CIB for $70, and Parasite Eve 2 CIB for $90. These prices were lower than average ESPECIALLY for the amazing condition they were in; barely any scratches on the discs whatsoever, bonus discs and manuals included, and both cases in great shape. The person who helped me (I don't know his name unfortunately, all I know is he is asian and has glasses, in his early 20's) made sure to give me the best looking case and best looking discs from the other Parasite Eve's he had there and swapped them into each one I was buying, he was an absolute real one. I spent $220 in total and it would have been a bit more if he had not offered to do a bundle offer :D
