We opted for their Passim burger with thyme fries on a brioche bun which exceeded my expectations for a place that's primarily a music venue. I thought the food would be more of an afterthought but it was equivalent to a casual bistro or gastropub. We sat right in the front row which was amazing for the experience and pics but I would recommend maybe bringing some ear protection if you sit this close. Our show was supposedly sold out but we lucked out that the folks seated next to us didn't show- otherwise I could see that one would be really packed in here as the seating is extremely close together. The performance was amazing! We absolutely loved the show and the intimate vibes. I also really appreciated that Fabiola took some time to explain her instrument, some Puerto Rican history and her experience growing up playing a folk instrument. She graduated from Berklee in 2018 and also brought in a Cuban tres player named Olivia Soler Espinosa in the latter part of her performance who is currently studying at Berklee. Another cool aspect of this place was the mixed ages. There was a good representation of older folks who looked like they have been coming to Passim since the 60s as well as younger folks in their 20s and 30s as well as folks in between. Anyone should feel welcome here.

Yet, you can meet an 80+ yo Columbian here, and discuss the Russian republican history of XV-s century. Political correctness is not present, and the free speech is tolerated, in line with a great Boston's tradition of a pubs as a place of free thought, that brought us American Revolution. I had a couple of shows there, for my daughter's band from JP, with a gang of JP girls descending on PA's local regulars, dancing, jumping, singing! They all loved the real nitty-gritty atmosphere, with a sour dower Finn in one corner, and a quiet semi-crazy local talking to his own shadow in the corner, as local tough ladies joke with a charming Italian-American lady bartender that takes no bs from anyone. Irish, Portuguese, Russian, English are all spoken here. As well as Chinese and Estonian! But is the local drinking public that is there all the time. Union Square, a symbol of unity between Cambridge and Somerville, is a place for all, just like good old USA. Besides the glitter of the fine establishments, there is also a real place, where you can speak and listen if you want to, despite the fact that some speeches can be offensive or loud. A true genuine American bar, a dinosaur and a whale. Cash-only miracle!

It's a space with simple elegance and a rustic charm. This is a real boat club with members who join because they love sailing. The annual Head of the Charles and other regattas are big deals here. But it's good news that the space can be rented out for weddings and other events because it's really pretty cool. The bride and groom of the wedding we attended are both avid sailors and so this place has special meaning to them. I love that there is both indoor and outdoor space here so if you luck out and have good weather, your guests can go out to the expansive deck or down to the water's edge. We had a sunny, perfect late afternoon and so guests wandered freely in and out. You can hire whatever caterer and bar service that you would like which I think is a terrific option when hosting any kind of party. It's a great way to control the quality of the food and not be locked into anything you're not 100% sure of. I'm also told you can't charge for alcohol at this site and must have an open bar; to that I say: "Amen". I am not a believer in hosting guests at a wedding where there is a cash bar. You wouldn't charge people for drinks if you invited them to your home so it's never made sense to me to do it a wedding. So for events held here, it's not a debate: it's an open bar although of course you choose what to serve. There was plenty of room for both dining and dancing in two separate but totally adjacent inside areas. One side was the dining area and the other was for the cocktail hour and mingling, later for the live band and dancing. Although the Boat Club can be a bit tricky to find event though it's a Cambridge address, it is well worth considering if you're planning a wedding especially if you want a place that is unique.

A few things to note if you are considering this for your wedding- it is a working boat house, so there will be other people on the grounds and the docks during your event. We were made aware of this ahead of time and okay with this, but were not prepared for the lack of parking due to the rowers being on site. Other than that, the staff was wonderful to work with and Kate was great on the communication front. Highly recommend for any event!
