I went here to see bill bellamy, don't follow your nostalgia. His opening act wasn't fun, he showed up play, and then he wasn't funny. I ended up leaving, but I don't think this place is good for concerts or shows. That's just my opinion.But the seating is, like, think about cafeteria tables, it's kind of like that.And you're sitting across from the person you're with, and then there's other random people sitting with you. And you have to sit sideways to see the stage, but they serve food and drinks.So if you're eating, you will not be able to see the stage. The place itself is gorgeous, i can definitely rent in that out for like a wedding.Or something, you know of that nature.But not shows. Our friend played a show in the Haymarket Lounge. We arrived early to have drinks before the meet and greet, which we always attend. First, the heat was not working properly. The bartender had a winter coat on. Our drinks were good and the bartender was engaging. Went to go into the meet and greet and were told rudely "You're not going in yet. We're not set up." This was actually 5 minutes after it was supposed to start because the bathroom is downstairs and what feels like a half mile away. Get settled at a table and the waitress came over to apologize for how she greeted us because "she was caught off guard." We all ordered drinks and food. Food was decent tasting, even though I ordered a medium burger and it was charred. Waitress kept standing in front of us during the show. There was also loud clanging of silverware the whole time from the waitstaff. My friend ordered a drink that never came, she had to ask for it. All of that coupled with poor acoustics made for a less than ideal experience. Worst venue we've been to. Two stars only for the one decent drink. read more

Shows at City Winery have an item or dollar minimum so I had a salad and beverage. I always want to enjoy their food but it's generally pretty average and this was no exception. Ordered the Greek Farmers Salad. It wasn't quite what I expected. I added a skewer of shrimp to boost my protein. The shrimp were huge! The tomatoes weren't very tasty- probably shouldn't have ordered in the late Winter/early Spring. Love the venue for live music and the servers are friendly and efficient. read more

There's a mandatory food and drink requirement per person. That sucks because the food isn't good and everything is overpriced. People sit where they want and not in the seats that they purchased. The service is ok. It's a pretty venue. Kind of tight, but the vibes are nice. The chicken wings were inedible. A funny tasting sauce on them. The batter is mushy and not well done. My experience at City Winery was a pleasant surprise! It was my first time attending this venue for a concert and it exceeded my expectations! I want to rave about the food first! My friend and I sat at the bar and ordered the Spicy Rigatoni Vodka and the CW Burger. We both devoured our meal because each plate was so flavorful. The rigatoni was cooked perfectly Al dente and the sauce was everything. It definitely had the right amount of kick! And the burger was very tender in between a soft brioche bun. The fixings on the burger didn't even require any condiments! The servers were super friendly and the food came out fast. The barrel room had the ambiance of a wine cellar. The room was decorated with lots of wine and barrels. Our venue room was also very intimate. I loved the show and the set up which created a personal experience. I'll definitely come back for another show and another meal. The restaurant had plenty of seating and it is close to a train station. There is street parking close by and the event also offers $3 for 3 hour parking at the garage. read more

This is a great venue for intimate shows and live music the night I went was when Eric Bellinger was in the house what an amazing show, I definitely wish they had more High top tables and seating, they do have la full bar the wine list is very nice and there are plenty of options, I do wish they had a Moscato, they have food and shareable plates they can be a bit pricey however I definitely plan on circling back on this venue read more

Came here for a trivia event - I appreciated the attention paid to setting up the tables like something out of Hogwarts, though it did feel kind of odd to dim the lights for most of the event. I ordered the Caesar salad with a marinated chicken thigh skewer and a side of fries. The food was actually pretty spectacular for a place I'd consider more of an event space. The meat was very tender and seasoned and the salad was one of the better renditions of a Caesar salad, with lots of cheese and dressing. Fries were not bad, I just prefer my spuds to be on the thicker side. However, the service left something to be desired. From walking in to getting our tickets scanned to sitting down, the employees seemed unhappy to be there. One guy started turning away in the middle of my asking him where the restrooms were (downstairs, you're welcome), which was pretty off-putting. Our waitress was nice but clearly slammed by the number of tables and we didn't see her much except to put in our orders and get the check. Not much street parking around, especially if there's an event going on at TD Garden the same night. I found an $11 parking garage on SpotHero that was about a 15 minute walk away. read more

Saw Andy Hull & Brother Bird here on 6/5 and I was honestly nervous about this venue after reading reviews. As someone with bad anxiety and claustrophobia, the thought of being so cramped in with other folks for a night sounded like a nightmare. What an incredible evening!! I had a seat very close to the stage, was it cramped? Yes. Did it force me out of my comfort zone and make friends with the wonderful people at my table? Also yes. Our server Cat was amazing, and man do these employees HUSTLE. Service was outstanding. I did not order food, nor do they pressure you into ordering food. Very standard Boston prices for all drinks and menu items. Everyone from the woman at the front desk, to the folks checking tickets and bringing everyone to their seats were nothing but professional. The sound system was superb for an acoustic show. You will have to turn your chair to face the stage, but you are not shoulder to shoulder with others. If you've ever been to a sold out show before- it will not be that jarring. Maybe I got lucky on a good night, but I appreciate the venue adding to the experience of what was the best show I've ever attended with my all time favorite artist. If you're a fellow anxious girly considering going to a show here solo- give it a try and treat yourself to a date night. You may be as pleasantly surprised as I was. read more

SLOPPY BOYS ARE COMING TO BOSTON! That's all my husband needed to hear to want to go. It's their live podcast tour. Do I listen to their podcast? Only through the bathroom door as my husband plays it loudly in the shower. Do I like their music? YES! Would it be difficult to get a Sunday night babysitter? Definitely but worth trying because my husband doesn't ask for much. City Winery is a fancy establishment. We were immediately greeted by a hostess who waved us over to a group of employees waiting to seat people in the venue space. We were escorted to our purchases seats. Immediately my heart sank- we were going to be squished in like sardines! And we were. My suggestion, push the tables out a little bit. It was too tight. To the point where I was afraid to go to the bathroom which would disturb a group of people and was i going to trip over coats, purses and chairs? Another issue, we were in seats where we had to turn to see the stage over our shoulders. I am 42 years old with neck and back issues. If I could move my chair a little it would have helped but you can't. Don't like it. No Moscato. Went with a fruity drink of the bartenders choosing. Did taste the Sloppy Boys drink of the day, Ward 8. Pretty tasty and sweet. I had the burrata, my husband had the Calabrian wings. The Calabrian wings were cooked to perfection and the sauce... flavor burst for your taste buds. In the best possible way. The burrata- loved the pistachios in the mix and burrata has a tiny piece of my heart but the issue- I need at least 2 more pieces of crustini! Their balsalmic is extremely vinegary (too much.) One piece isn't enough. I found myself just eating chunks of burrata. Our server was super nice but as more people joined our sardine party it became difficult to talk to the waited since we were on the inside. My friend and I had one night in Boston on our way to Maine. We had dinner here before seeing the Aerosmith cover band, Draw The Line. Our entire even was fantastic!! Our server Kat was delightful and the food was delicious!! Manager Bree was wonderful too, checking on us and making sure we were satisfied with everything. The show venue is a short walk past the restaurant and the restrooms are downstairs. The restroom was clean and nice, and the music venue was a great space. We loved the band and had a couple drinks from the bar in the venue. For one night in Boston, it was a perfect evening, and less than a 10 minute walk back to our hotel. I went back to City Winery for another show in November (2024). We didn't eat there this time as none of us were interested in the menu items. We did get drinks and our waitress was very nice. My only complaint is that the seating seemed more packed this time than the first time we were there in 2019. We were at the second table from the stage and we had to squeeze by all the other tables to get to the front near the stage. Because the tables are so packed you can't really turn sideways to look at the stage, you have to crane your neck, which became pretty uncomfortable. My concern is if there were an emergency like a fire, people are packed so tightly it wouldn't be easy to get out. The venue is great, but I think they need to fix their seating arrangements. read more

Shockingly, City Winery's menu items are exorbitant! A burger is $28.00, while the Capital Burger, which as you might expect is far superior, is $22. I heard about Aloe Blacc coming to City Winery when I was at the Avery Sunshine show earlier this year. I was so excited to finally see him in person, I got my solo ticket the minute they announced the tickets were available! Picked my tall table in the back, roomier and even planned the meal I was going to eat the night before. The guest sitting at my table ordered her solo ticket too, we met that night and hit it off, laughing and taking pics of ABduring his fabulous performance. Ordered a Ritual mock-tail, CEASAR salad with shrimp and the delicious Citrus cake. The salad was cool, crisp and cheesy, the shrimp grilled and flavorful and the cake was the sweet treat that topped off the delicious meal. The music and sing along was inspiring and the atmosphere was a true A. I. M. vibe. We were able to get signed CDs, t-shirts, and a selfie with Aloe Blacc‼. i wrote out a huge, furious review and i think yelp dumped it bc my language was very heated lol. the manager has been dealing out mealy mouthed apologies for the exact same issues im about to mention for the past 3 years so dont expect anything to actually ever get better. -horrible, uncomfortable seating. insane layout. everyone is practically sitting on each others laps. -vile food. fig and goat cheese served with stale bread. floppy, undercooked flatbread. chicken kebab had a weird flavor. limoncello tastes like pledge. beer was warm. half the menu was unavailable despite the fact that any reasonable person would have enough food on hand for a planned event. i dont get how you run out of downeast. just go down the street lol. -you see more of the waiter's heads than anything on stage bc they dont ever cut off food or drink service during performances. this feels like a solved problem every other locale on earth knows is a faux pas. -unbelievably expensive for something that sucks so bad. woe to anyone who wants to see anything here! the worst a city has to offer! read more

Great experience at City Winery! The bartender Andres was phenomenal, super friendly, attentive, and made the whole night even better. We went here for a Sheila E. Show and we loved it! We had a charcuterie board that was delicious! They have wines and mixed drinks as well. The service was really nice and the waitstaff were friendly and engaging! The place is beautiful with nice decor and wine themed lighting. They have a little pizza place in there too that looked good. The only downside is there is only one restroom in the place and it is downstairs, it has lots of stalls, it's just the only one. If you're going here because you are attending a show here JUST DON'T. Go elsewhere for food. I wished I'd read reviews here and on Google before coming here. Initially thought this was going to be super nice. Only reason I decided to eat here is because we were seeing a show and it gave an option to book a reservation for dinner. My mom and I were excited for a nice night out after work. The person who seated us was extremely nice and professional, welcoming. Was excited to take a seat and order dinner first. Was told options were: eating inside the venue for the show or eating outside at the bar or a table. We opted for eating outside at a table before the show started. The dining seating is very nice. High ceilings, comfortable to sit at. - Ordered the burrata - sold out - Ordered butternut squash soup. One came out cold and the other was ok temp wise. Tasted it and it had a seafood-like taste. Was surprised to find crab in it! There was also pieces of shell from the crab that got stuck in between my molars. - Ordered crispy chicken sandwich. Ice cold. Cheese on top was not even melted. Fries cold. Ordered Pad Thai and it was congealed noodles also cold. Told management and she was apologetic. We just wanted the food to be hot. We were also hungry and had no other place we could go to as we were seeing the show after, no real time to go somewhere else all together. Also mentioned the soups and was told there is crab in it- upon looking at the menu it was in small type at the bottom. Should be larger. I just saw butternut squash bisque and wouldn't have thought there'd be crab. The food came back out hot. No cheese on my sandwich now. By the time I saw the waiter and told him, he came back when I had 2 bites left to my sandwich. So didn't even end up eating the cheese. The second Pad Thai was hot but had no flavor. The meals were comped which was the right thing to do and we were thankful. I'm still hungry now. ------------------------------------- Fast forward to show time. Got into the venue which is a room off on the side (see photos) and it is nice enough but seats are close together. A host brought us to our seat. Only to find out they brought us to the wrong seats. So we ended up having to move after making friends with our "neighbors" and just ordering their White Flights Got to new correct seats. Another server took our order. We were under the impression the first person we gave our order to completes the order. Nope. So reordered with this woman and she told us the white flights were sold out!! Aahhhh SO, we didn't order anything for wine. Then decided to just get tea and dessert. Out of the rum cake. So ordered the chocolate buddino.... And my mom got the maple bacon creme brûlée. Talked to our "new neighbors" they told us they were out of beet salad, beer, etc... apparently there was an event last night and cleared the place out. Unacceptable if you have an event the following night and you're out of tons of stuff. I understand there are supply chain issues, but really?! What a night so far. Have never experienced anything like this. I just hope the show is good!!!! Sheesh. Updated to add: show was excellent! Would see Jim Brickman again just hopefully not at this location. We ordered earl grey tea and our desserts. The desserts were the highlight of the meal both really good. However, the earl grey tea was not early grey- came out and it was English breakfast tea. I visited here again Thursday night to see Boney James and his band. The performance was outstanding. James is a real showman and displays all of his talents. The band members--rhythm and bass guitar, drummer, keyboardist--were incredible and performed some amazing solos. They had the place rockin'! The service experience was great, from ticket-checkers to servers. I've figured out how to get the best experience.... arrive at least 30 minutes before showtime to get food and drink orders in early. Also pick seats at the end of a long table so you can turn and have room to stretch your legs (without getting in the way of hardworking servers). My companion and I both had wine and a Margarita Pizza each, which was cooked to order (extra cheese, lightly cooked). The location of City Winery is a challenge. We've finally decided it's best to ride-share in, and even then it's a nightmare with downtown traffic, just not my nightmare. Area parking is hard to come by, especially if there is an event at nearby TD Garden. That said, I look forward to my next visit and scan the schedule routinely to see who is coming up that I'd like to see. read more

My wife and I have gone to two events, Andrew Yang in October 2021 and Eugene Mirman and friends comedy show Dec 2022. Both shows were in the Main Venue, with seating for 200 at long narrow tables. It feels pretty intimate, you can easily meet your neighbors across the table. Most seats are close enough to the stage. I wouldn't order dinner there just because you get served in the middle of the show and you're eating in view of people who are trying to watch the entertainment. And you're whispering loudly to the waiter, etc, it's all just sort of awkward. Eat before you go, maybe get a drink there. Great venue and lots of variety, a different show every night if the week! read more
