Special sign with petrified wood pyramid

We saw the Crystal Forest Museum and Gift Shop as we entered the road to the Petrified Forest. It is a large building but not the fancy ones you see on I-40. The outside has huge petrified wood (really all mineral) laying outside, forming their sign and even used as a planter for cactus growing outside. The gigantic amethyst in the entrance is beautiful and about 200 pounds or it would be in my home right now. (That and the guesstimated price of $10,000, of course. There were some online with $140,000 price tags!) Do not judge the business from the outside. The inside is nice with gorgeous rocks, fossils and petrified wood in every form. The most amazing was the coffee tables made of the finest colors of petrified wood. They were gorgeous and would make a statement piece in someone's home. And the large museum quality fossils makes this store equal to the other stores I've explored. There are the nicer examples inside and another large area outside with tons of geodes, fossils and petrified wood of all sizes-and good prices. I definitely recommend the Crystal Forest Museum and Gift Shop. It is a wonderful place to spend time before or after going to the Petrified Forest.

It's right there: Clean rest rooms. Except not so clean either.

My bill came to $17 so rather than paying by credit card, I pulled out a $50 bill to pay. Store owner: "OH GOD REALLY? I'M 50 MILES AWAY FROM THE NEAREST BANK. I CAN'T CHANGE THAT!" She said this while surrounded by merchandise and six feet away from a room that was a safe. I went to see if I had enough singles to pay the bill and said I might have to use a card. That's when she saw one of my hundred dollar bills and said she would be able to break thar. What the heck? I hope the twenties are good. During the time we were in the store she greeted every guest by screaming "I HIPE YOU LOOK AROUND AFTER USING THE RESTROOM". Oddly, a "clean restroom" is one of the draws on the sign. Prices can be double on the same items in stores nearby. Save money and angst and shop elsewhere.

Extremely rude and overpriced. Don't bother stopping. Visit the shops inside the park.
