I thought this place was going to be a tourist trap or kind of cheesy. It's not! Super cool rocks, native history collection, huge selection of really cool things made from petrified wood. We thought we'd be in and out, but spent about an hour there before going into the national park. I highly suggest you check it out if you're coming to the national park.

We enjoyed this store. Unlike other reviewers, we found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Bought lots of stuff -- jewelry, gifts, clothing, knickknacks -- and a small jigsaw puzzle ("Welcome to the Petrified Forest"), which unfortunately had three missing pieces. It was around $6-7 bucks as I recall, so I'll just donate it to the thrift store with a note.

Road Trip must stop. Great air conditioning and really clean bathrooms too. Oh yea and quite the selection on petrified wood, polished and cut rocks, fossils and the rest of it is here. Make sure you pick up the coupon for free petrified wood (8oz.). You can find a coupon in one of those tourist stuff to do card holders deals at stores and hotels. Make sure to ask for Vanessa she's cheerful and happy to help, tell her you read it on Yelp. foodguy-martin

Rude staff. We came here with our service dogs after asking politely if it was ok, and the staff was extremely rude and unwelcoming. They made us feel very uncomfortable. They spoke with each other out loud about having to mop the floors, suggesting the dogs are making them dirty. Our dogs are well groomed and obviously better behaved than the staff here. Not a good experience, I wouldn't suggest stopping by.

    Woooow!! This is amazing!

Man this place is amazing! We stopped in since we live nearby and we were so glad! This shop has everything you could ever imagine as far as fossils and gems. They have a section that is all not for sale that will blow your mind. One specimen in particular was what looked like a spinal bone with an arrowhead lodged in it from lord knows when! So cool! Los to purchase! Prices are pretty fair too. We spent about 45 minutes here I think. Bought a few raw copper pieces as gifts. Sweet spot!

The dinosaurs are huge but then so are the piles upon piles of petrified wood and other rocks surrounding the building. I believe my husband was grateful they were closed, he seemed to relax a bit more as we strolled around the perimeter!! I definitely would have loved to get my hands on some of the fine specimens they had just laying in the dirt! Everywhere we looked it said they were open the afternoon we drove through town but unfortunately it was all locked up and no sign of anybody around. Since we found it on Roadside Attractions, we treated it as such and just enjoyed the unique dinosaurs and a chance to stretch our legs! Perhaps some day we'll return and one of the beautiful rocks will come home with me!

We stopped in to peruse the inventory and basically got into an argument with the crabby old guy who was manning the place. I was just curious on where they get all of their petrified wood, etc. and he told me I asked too many questions and then started to grill me on rocks and the origin of petrified wood??!! Really weird customer service. While my wife was shopping inside he followed me outside - he said he didn't trust me. Like I was going to shoplift a 100 pound rock... The more valuable stuff was inside anyway. What an old coot. Stop for the pictures and move on.
