Crystal Mall is an enclosed, two-level regional mall in Waterford, Connecticut. It is situated in a central retail area off the Hartford Turnpike (Route 85), across from a smaller, open-air shopping center, Waterford Commons. The mall covers an area of 782,786 sq ft, making it Connecticut's ninth largest mall by area. Its primary trade area includes a trade population of 296,161 people, mostly serving the nearby towns of Waterford, Stonington, Norwich, Groton and New London. I personally like this mall but I've been there one time, and that was back in early 2019 when I did some window shopping hence browsing stores. What I like the most about this mall is that they house a special chandelier that is made of fake crystal. The mall was named because of that very special, valuable treasure that's been in existence since the mall's opening in 1984. Additionally, they also have a nice selection of restaurants in the food court. Overall, I thought it was a nice mall when I came here that day but I think it's still as beautiful although there are some vacant stores that have yet to be filled like a former SEARS I know that closed down and Olympia Sports. Since there's no way to just do a review on a certain place, I'm gonna do a review on the whole mall. I like this small mall. It has a indoor toddler playground that I like taking my daughter to. And a few shops I like to shop at. I love when Spirit Halloween is here too. But then there's this one disappointment in the mall right next to JCPenny's close to the food court. The WOW Family Entertainment Center. When was the last time they checked on the place? There's broken and not working games. No one has put a sign there saying "Out of order". So basically, they're stealing money from people when they put their coins in broken games. Cause there's no one there to help anyone retrieve their coins. DO NOT waste your time in this place, cause apparently your prizes also get stuck in the machine. And it'll eat your tickets and not count it right. The mall is fine, but this so called family center pisses me off. They should just tear that shit down if they're not gonna bother fixing anything in that place. read more

Been to this stellar shopping mall numerous times and love it! Doesn't matter so much if I see the same stuff all the time, it's still a nice place to be. It's seems to never be overcrowded and employees throughout the shops in Crystal Mall are very friendly and helpful. It also has a few great sports shops here if that's your thing. Then only thing I wish is that it had a wider number of food outlets in the food court. It's not too bad with the ones they have. It surely won't keep anyone away! This is a two-leveal mall with easy access to any outlet you wish to visit. It has Penny's, Sears, and Macy's for the larger department stores and you can often find some pretty good deals at all three. Take a visit some time! It's a fun place to visit. This mall's alright. My boyfriend wanted to show me the Toy Vault here since it was one of his favorites during college. The mall itself is pretty basic, it has all of your typical stores, decent sized food court and whatnot. It seems to draw a bit of a ghetto crowd but it's not too bad. Having witnessed everything I'm saying---They have mice - dead and alive - cockroaches and God knows what else. How many pest control trucks and "death smells" are going to pop up before you tent the entire mall and blast it with chemicals. I shouldn't know what death smells like but because of this mall- I do. I have also looked down on the ground to find drugs on stairs/hallways- not in the stores, but in the mall. And watch yourself while eating- you will get a rag on your table while you are eating from the cleaning..ahem.. ladies. They also give no cares about sweeping over your feet while you are trying to enjoy a burger you waited 25 (no joke) minutes for at BK. Besides the rudest security iv ever met......I really really really don't recommend this mall to anyone - make the drive to the Clinton Outlets if you want a mall atmosphere without the rodents and rudeness. read more

Once a crappy mall, always a crappy mall. That is not to say I didn't spend the best mall rat years of my life here, because I did. And the stores have drastically improved too! I could barely believe my eyes when I came home for the holidays and discovered it had finally secured an H&M and Forever 21...those would've been seriously dangerous to my wallet in high school. Sears needs to close and make room for some more good stores, since the merger with KMart it basically LOOKS like a KMart now. The other chain stores are holding their own though - the addition of Christmas Tree Shop and Bed Bath & Beyond where Filenes used to be is a definite bonus. But if this is your favorite mall, seriously consider taking the 45-minute ride to Manchester or Providence... If this mall survives the economic hardships, I'm it will continue to serve the SE CT area with most of its retail bliss, for this it deserves a mediocre 3 stars. read more

I'd consider this a pretty good mall. Okay, so maybe there are better malls (especially Providence Place in Providence, RI) but as for the New London area this is a pretty good mall! They have a lot of reputable stores and they have some stores that you can't find anywhere but at a mall (namely, Crystal Mall). Pros: Lots of parking (except by food court), lots of stores, pretty clean Cons: parking near food court is hard to find, food court is sub-par, there's better malls not far away, no movie theater attached Overall summary: It all depends on your preference and what stores you're into... check it out and formulate your own opinion on it! read more

Yes. I am a fan of the Crystal Mall even if it has a few warts. The anchors are a bit weak. If I'm shopping for clothes for myself I'd rather make the trip to West Farms or Providence Place. The Sears does have a Portrait Studio where we do all our kids pictures at which is a major plus. Bed Bath & Beyond has some useful stuff but I'm not the type to even step foot in a Christmas Tree Shop. I go to a mall to shop, not eat. The food court is over run with all types of miscreants hanging out which keeps me away more than the awful food selection. I abhor fast food so this does nothing for me. I could be wrong but I think the only bathroom is located here which means you have to risk your life just to relieve yourself. Back to the shopping. I spend the majority of my money here on children's clothes. Even though the Children's Place went out they still have H&M and Old Navy for reasonable priced clothes along with Gap. Do they sell adult size clothes in Abercombie or Hollister? I have never had a problem finding a parking spot & they are in the middle of renovating the place so it will end up looking a bit more modern. They also just put in a Buffalo Wild Wings (& I reviewed it) which might bring people in. And how could I forget the Lens Crafters? There's a bunch of sneaker shops & a Lids which isn't that bad. There's also crappy kiosks that sell crap you don't need & random shops that seem to fill out every mall. It's not high end by any stretch of the imagination but does serve it's purpose. read more

For the size of the place, you would think they would utilize the space a bit better. We got here later in the evening so some stores were closed. From what we were able to see, it has some pretty good shopping options. The mall isn't huge, but there is definitely something for everyone. The Bed Bath and Beyond was probably the best stop! read more

Today I visited the crystal mall with a friend of mine to purchase a pair of boots. While here, we went to the food court and ate at Pizza Hut. If I must say so myself, superb customer service and kindness from our server. 10/10 would visit this Pizza Hut location again. read more

Stopped in on my way home from Captain Scott's. Crystal Mall is a nice mall that's recently been renovated. One can find the usual anchors here, with many nice restaurants on the out parcels. Easy parking, clean as could be, and wide aisles make this mall navigable. The Macy's here is one the company got when they bought out Jordan Marsh, and it shows. However, it's well kept and clean. I've seen a few of the older stores that are...well...never mind. ;) I won't frequent Crystal Mall often...simply because I work in WestFarms. But I recommend it to anyone in the area. read more

The anchor stores are a mess - even Macys has lower end merchandise at their Crystal Mall store than at Westfarms or Providence Place, and it is cluttered and poorly displayed. The other anchor stores: a dying Sears and JC Penney. There is no Abercrombie or J. Crew, and the Walking Company closed after a short stint. The service at all stores is marginal. A few bright spots: Starbucks, Dairy Queen, Hollister, and a fairly new Chicos which I doubt will survive. I would rather shop online or go to Westfarms. read more

So 2/5/16 they stay open during a blizzard so I bring my wife in no problem for work. Well the mall looses power fire alarms go off and smoke fills and I mean fills the food court, pacsun, champs area. We get evacuated by the Waterford FD saying that the mall is on fire in two places. Next day go on the Crystal Mall Facebook page and they are saying they only closed the mall for power outages not the fact that there was smoke or fire and we all had to be evacuated out. So I call them out and ask why the heck they would say that they closed due to a power outage and not the real reason a fire. They tell me that there is no fire and block me because "I was talking bad about the mall and it's against their facebook pages rules." Talk to the fire department and although there was no open flame when firemen reached the scene."There was electric wiring, panels and escalators that had been shorted by constant power surges within the mall causing the smoke and also causing fire alarms to go on threw out the mall. I am disgusted that when a husband of a disabled employee (my wife is legally blind hence why I have to drive her back and forth to work) that works at the mall asks what is really going on they have the nerve to cover over the real reason and block a concerned family member. I have no idea how a business can be run so dangerously and coldly as this place but its horrific. The individual shops and stores are great but the people running the actual mall need to learn how to deal with public relations and fire there facebook manager. read more

This mall is horrendous. It smells, the walls are dirty and its boring. Do yourself a favor and make a trip elsewhere.

I'll have to agree with Stacey: this mall has come a LONG way. Thank goodness for its' makeover. Now it's a normal mall and not a piece of total crap! Anyway, I don't know that I can say much about a mall... I mean it's a place with stores that you'll find in plenty of other malls in CT. For New London, it is decent shopping. Teenagers will be happy to find Abercrombie, Hollister, and American Eagle. For the 20-something crowd, it gets a bit harder. If you are looking for casual wear H&M, Ann Taylor Loft and a few more generic stores are there. Men's wear and formal wear are almost nonexistent. I usually only go for the EMS. Clinton's Crossing outlets and Providence Place are a drive a way, but more worth it. read more

Conveniently located near I-95 exit 82 on Rt 85, with plenty more shopping nearby (Target, EMS, Best Buy) in case you don't find what you're looking for at the mall. I have come all the way to CT for a small getaway, and my family and I visited this mall. Let me tell you the prices are really cheap compared to MA, which is a plus. Besides the fact the mall seems to be not well taken care of, it seemed a little dirty to me. The food court was small and there were birds flying around me while I ate. I guess it is hard to control that but I didn't really enjoy that. It is fairly big with lots of stores. I would have to say there are a lot of young kids, who have absolutely no respect, and there is not much security from what I can see. One thing I have to say is that the employees here are exceptionally polite! I was shocked come from Boston where everyone is rude as hell I was shocked and pleased at how I was treated. I will make a day trip down to this mall just for the great deals! read more

I'm a teenager and this is one of the worst malls I've been to. Unfortunately, I live in East Lyme so it's the only mall close to me. I would suggest taking the time to go to either Westfarms or Providence Place instead of wasting time at this place.There's Abercrombie/Hollister/ American Eagle for my age group. But now I don't like those stores, and only can choose from Gap, Forever 21 or H&M now. There's a load of ghetto kids, and little children screaming and running around.You can't even walk into this mall without being creeped on some guy standing directly in the entrance. Plus, the food court is disgusting,so Charley's is the only food you have around there, which is somewhat exepensive. read more

Looks like a recent remodel, middle market stores with JC PENNY, MACYS, SEARS and CHRISTMAS TREE stores as anchors. Home DEPOT is across the street as well as several new stores. Certainly in a location with tons of shopping. read more
