Long overdue - Review of Beyond Wax Studio (2021 experience)…read more In April 2021, I scheduled a consultation with professional stylist Kandice Burley at Beyond Wax Studio. I explained I was interested in extensions for my upcoming wedding on April 24th. Because I had previously ordered clip-in extensions from BetterLength Hair with no issues, I specifically asked Kandice to review the company and give me her professional opinion on both the hair quality and which type of extension would be best for my hair type, since I wanted something more permanent this time. Kandice looked over my hair and the BetterLength website, told me the company was fine to order from, and advised that I could do either micro-beads or tape-ins. Based on her professional approval, I proceeded. Unfortunately, the hair from BetterLength was falsely advertised -- it was supposed to be 100% human hair, but it was not -- and micro-beads were not suitable for my hair type. The combination of poor hair quality and the wrong method caused so much damage that I had to cut off my hair following my wedding ceremony, before the reception. When I returned to the salon seeking some kind of resolution, the owner, Teneka, was dismissive, unempathetic, and unprofessional. She told me I should have had my hair done by an "ethnic stylist" (the stylist who worked on me was Caucasian, and I am mixed). At no point was this ever mentioned beforehand, and the comment was both inappropriate and offensive. She also spoke about her own employee, Kandice, in a very unprofessional manner rather than taking responsibility as the owner. She offered no accountability, refused to give me a refund, and when I said I would leave a review, she accused me of "threatening her" and even raised her voice at me. This experience was not only disappointing, it was exhausting and traumatic. I even contacted a lawyer given the severity of what happened, but was unable to receive help. What should have been a joyful preparation for my wedding became a painful and stressful ordeal. The lack of accountability, the refusal to refund, the offensive comment, the unprofessional way she spoke of her own employee, and the hostile response were unacceptable. For these reasons, I cannot recommend Beyond Wax Studio or doing business with Teneka.

I saw the work, read comments from customers, and knew this was definitely the place for me...I can't stress enough to DO YOUR RESEARCH, read reviews, and watch someones work before taking this leap! The owner got back to me personally, she went over and above to work with me and my super busy schedule. When I arrived, she took her time to discuss the shape I wanted, then took more time just to get the shape right before she started working. Yes, getting something similar to a tattoo on your face takes time to get right; which she did. I was worried about the pain, about the healing, the scary "dark" phase as some call it, but there was no pain whatsoever, following her directions made the healing process a breeze (and she provides the ointment), and the "dark" lightened just like she said it would. I have gone for my first, and touch-up appointments and I could not be happier with the results. My confidence has dramatically improved, yes, just the difference having eyebrows can make. No more 15+ minutes trying to pencil in my this brows, having them wash/wipe off. I seriously couldn't be happier with the results! She takes her time with every single lash. Her work is meticulous and clean. The true difference though lays in her attention to detail. She will not stop until her standards are met, and let me tell you, those are pretty high. She's also done my brows and she makes my sad wispy ones look pretty damn good. She has rebranded the studio from the Prime days, and it's so cute! Love the vibe and the music (and the laughs and good conversation!) I booked an appointment with Ashton for microshading (because after over a decade, I'm kind of tired of drawing my brows on every day!) Just as I remember her from almost 10 years ago when she used to do lashes, she was awesome! So sweet and so knowledgeable. She did a great job with my wonky brows! I wanted (or thought I did) my brows to look a certain way, so we agreed that I would come with them done how I normally do them so she could use that as a starting point and map the shape from there. I didn't even check the shape before we started because I trusted her and knew that she was going to get me right! I was SPOOKED the first day/couple of days because the shape was a little bolder and different than I expected, and you know when you're used to seeing your face a certain way every day, any minuscule change is going to be jarring to you (especially eyebrows LOL). BUT after they peeled and healed over in a few days, I L O V E D them. The color was PERFECT, the shape was PERFECT, they looked amazing. There were a couple of little parts that I wanted touched up, which we did two weeks later (on the dot), and now they are legit AMAZING. I am so happy I did this, and after so many years of considering it, I'm SO GLAD I waited until I ironically ended up in Ashton's orbit again and I was able to have her do them!
