Amazing crepes, friendly service and great location with usually a short wait if that.

On my kid's last full day in Montreal, we were walking around Old Montreal, deciding what to do for lunch, when we realized, we need to have a quintessentially French meal - but something light, and crepes immediately came to mind. And this creperie was centrally located on the main drag (Rue St. Paul), and I know it's been here for years and years, as I've passed the sign for eons. So in we went! The restaurant is located up a flight of stairs and there is no elevator, FYI, so if you are mobility challenged, this would not be ideal. Upstairs, the interior is warm and chalet-like, with wooden planks on walls, exposed brick, lots of light from the windows, and wall shelving containing European and Quebec chocolates, maple syrups, etc. Behind the counter you can see the guy making the crepes one by one. Pretty legit. We wanted to get a savory and a sweet crepe and share them both. We first ordered a chicken and cheese crepe (my kid LOVES chicken) but we were told they had no chicken (strange, at lunch-time in a busy restaurant in a busy part of town, eh? Chicken is so....basic). So we opted for a cheese and asparagus crepe. For the dessert crepe we ordered a classic strawberry crepe. We said we'd share them both and have the strawberry one "for dessert", thinking they'd bring out the savory one first. Perhaps there was a language barrier, but the server brought out both crepes at the same time. Oh well. Both crepes were made with the PERFECT crepe-pancake: super thin, delicate, with the perfect firmness and perfect sweetness. I've not had better crepes even in France. As for the fillings....we weren't that keen on the cheese and asparagus crepe. The asparagus was stringy, and the cheese was way too salty. This savory crepe came with a small salad on the side and, for me, this salad was the best. part of this dish; the lettuce was super fresh and the salad dressing was delicious.The strawberry crepe was wonderful: perfectly filed with the right amount of sweetened fresh strawberries and small dollops of fresh whipped cream. Definitely the strawberry crepe was the hit of the meal. The cheese-asparagus crepe cost $17 and the strawberry one, $15. I thought these prices somewhat high but I guess, for freshly made crepes in a touristy part of town, it's par for the course. read more

Let's be honest... I'm a huge crêpe fan. So when we stumbled upon Crêperie St. Paul, we walked right in (I mean it's eat-o'clock somewhere). The interior of this second floor restaurant is small and cute. They have a large selection of crêpes to choose from, so if you're feeling sweet or salty, there's a variety of options. We got my go-to Nutella with strawberry and banana and a savory chicken and bacon. The crêpes were good and hit the spot. The plus side is the restaurant is located in the heart of old town Montréal, but thankfully the prices were reasonable. The service is very chill, it has definitely more of a cafeteria feel to it than a sit down establishment. So if you're looking for something quick with no frills, Crêperie St. Paul is a good option. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here famished from my morning and saw a captivating sign for crepes. Lots of options between savory and sweet. I ultimately went with a nutella strawberry banana crepe. It took a while for it to come out. In the middle of the crepe, I had to use the bathroom and when I came back out, they threw it away. They were nice enough to make another but yeesh. If you are looking for the most delicious fruit crepe, this is the place! Everything tastes incredibly fresh and is cooked to perfection. They have both indoor and outdoor dining! Service is attentive. This is a great place for tourists to dine. It was so good that we were willing to walk 30 min from Downtown to Rue St. Paul to dine there twice during our week-long stay in Montreal. This was our last day in Montreal and we wanted to get a crêpe and I must say this place is so cute. It's upstairs above some of the stores down the cobble Street behind our hotel and we were walked in. It looked like a little farm house. They had all sorts of crepes I decided to get the one that all the locals get with cheese and hotdog, and it was amazing and served the salad. I love that. While it is definitely very touristy, they still offer terrific crêpes of all flavors and sweetness levels. About half of the crepes available are dessert crepes, and the other half can be considered a meal-type crepe, sweet or savory, with a variety of meat, cheese, or vegetable options to put in them. I thought the crepes were delicious, and they came out quickly. The savory crepes were nicely seasoned. Unfortunately, we ordered a crepe which included bacon, and they were out of bacon. But they were glad to include or substitute anything else we wanted in the crepe, such as a vegetable or a second helping of meat. Your beverage options here are limited, essentially either canned or bottled beverages or smoothies. I was disappointed in the smoothies. I thought they'd look similar to the ones on the menu (looked like a 16oz. cup). What you get is a glass about half that size, with a strong fruit-flavored beverage, topped with a dollop of whipped cream, at room temperature. One guy was banging out all the food as fast as he could, with another serving. I ordered a mango smoothie, which was awful. Basically, it was mango nectar from a carton topped with whipped cream from a can. The crepe was better. I had the popular strawberry and cream cheese crepe. We ordered a savory crepe that had chicken and asparagus. We weren't sure what to expect and were delighted with its beautiful presentation, flavor and texture. We also enjoyed a lemon crepe which was a perfect balance of flavor and sweetness. So often places over do it with sweetness, but not at Creperie St-Paul! Next time we will order an extra serving of whip cream. On a totally personal note, when deciding to eat outside or in, maybe ask how the wasp population is. Mediocre crepes - I've eaten at another crepe restaurant in Old Montreal and it was so good but sadly the place was closed and decided to try this restaurant out. I had the asparagus and cheese crepe, I think the crepes should come with another topping. Most of the items on the menu come with 2 toppings, but I think ham would've been the perfect addition. Found this little crepe restaurant by chance while walking abound Old Montreal. There's a sign on the street level with an arrow to go up the stairs. It's very small but has a warm and welcoming vibe to it. The cooks and wait staff are friendly. I stood at the entrance for a while waiting for someone to seat me...to no avail. Then I made my way inside and asked if I could take a seat anywhere. Then the gentleman cleaned a table for me. I got my own menu and got someone's attention to place my order. I ordered the chicken and asparagus crepe with tossed salad and a mango smoothie. Food was delivered to my table (without cutlery) and I once again waved at someone to get their attention. Such a wonderful gem in heart of Old Montréal. Restaurants in Old Montréal tend to be pricier than those in other locations. However, this creperie joint is a breath of fresh air (and quite inexpensive). The customer service was awesome from the moment we walked in until the moment we exited. It also has quite the French flair. As we sat and waited to order, we couldn't help but drool over the fresh creperies coming out to the table. We couldn't wait to order ours. We came just in time as well since the tables started filling up after we sat. The young brother behind the counter is a pro at fixing up multiple crepes at a time. It was like we had a front row seat to a demonstration. Impressive! My partner ordered a Perrier water and I ordered a mango paradise smoothie (freshly cut mangoes with maple syrup and ice). The smoothie was refreshingly delicious but I just wish it had a thicker consistency and was colder. Otherwise I enjoyed it. The service was horrible!!! and St Paul has a lot of restaurants to choose from. We should have walked out. It was a hot day but the restaurant was 30% - 40% occupied. We ordered lunch and drinks (sprite, bottled water) . The drinks never came. One meal never showed up. We tried to order non crepes and were told they were not available by our waiter only to see other tables with them. The crepes (savory) were tasty although it was almost 40 minutes to get them.
