Sometimes in life you get hungry and you take a chance on a place with little to no insight or information as to what you should expect. That was me when I found myself rolling through Crawford, Nebraska and saw the sign for C's Drive in. I could not have been more pleasantly surprised with my overall experience here. The couple who owns and operates the place are exceptionally friendly and are doing classic grease-pit burgers/fries/milkshakes etc but with a notably personal touch. I spent some time talking to them as the place wasn't busy when I arrived, and I can tell you that they are working hard and paying close attention to the food that they're serving. No cut corners, just a couple of people who understand the value of serving good food as a way to make a restaurant succeed. They are passionate. I learned about the way they source the curds for their cheese curds and how they batter and fry them to perfection. I learned about the quality of their beef for the burger patties and how they tried a few combinations before deciding on what they use, (which is delicious), I learned about broasted chicken which is a way that chicken is prepared that leads to a fantastic outcome, (think fried chicken, but more crispy, never dry and loaded with juices). I feel like I can say with confidence that if you stop here and place an order, that the person preparing it will be taking their time and paying attention in order to serve you something that they can be proud of. Classic menu, exceptional execution. Don't second guess it. I had a double bacon cheeseburger, hand cut curly fries and the cheese curds because they sounded so appealing. Would order it all again. Still thinking about those cheese curds every day. All in all this is place is a great example of how good simple things can be when the people behind them show up and care about what they're doing. If you're in the area do not second guess it. The prices are right, the food is pure comfort, and you will leave kind of shocked at the overall quality and value of the place. 5 stars. read more

Local owner doing it right! Hands down the best burger I had on my 17 state road trip. Burgers made from 80/20 hand pressed bison, so you get that juicy drip They even allowed me to swap out the cheese with ghost pepper cheddar I got from a dairy farm in Wisconsin. The hand cut curly fries are dropped to order and are best when fisted into your mouth. Do not skip the cheese curds! Cheese straight from Wisconsin and hand breaded. The soft served ice cream will complete your food coma. read more

Bad weather routed us through Crawford and we stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant. Huge menu, something for everyone! The pizza burger and grilled cheese were a kid favorite. Of course you have to order ice cream - try the ice cream nachos!! Excellent service- very helpful navigating the menu. No public restrooms, but lots of covered seating (picnic tables). Great for groups of all sizes. We will be back!! read more

My goodness, what can I say...absolutely incredible little gem in Crawford! This is hands down the best fried chicken I've ever had (technically, it's broasted). Moist and juicy inside with a crispy, flavorful, perfect crust on the outside. Finished it off with some amazing huckleberry ice cream (they have a bunch of other unique flavors, such as cherry nut and strawberry rhubarb). Everyone was super friendly, as well. Definitely adding this to my list of must-stops any time I'm in the Crawford area! read more

Really good broasted chicken. The broasted potatoes were creamy and delicious too. We ordered a family size order of onoon rings. It was huge and tasty. The pasta salad was listed on a sign and recommended by the gal taking our order, so we couldn't resist. It was delicious! Fun place with the standard small diner fare-- burgers and fries and the lot. But well done with good ingredients! Cheese curds were spectacular and had an optional marshmallow dip which put them over the edge of tasty. We also had the pickle fries which also were top tier. The owners took pride in what they do and asked opinions. Also keep in mind that it's a small business and during peak hours you might have a little more of a wait. read more

Stopped at Staab's during a road trip with the hubs. The service was amazing. The girl that took our order was very friendly, had no problems answering our questions and recommended either the spicy chicken sandwich, cheeseburger or the broasted chicken (which she said is made by a pressure cooker). The hubs tried the spicy chicken sandwich with macaroni salad and I tried the cheeseburger. Both were better than average, however, we won't go specifically out of our way for them again. Overall, I would say give Staab's a try. Maybe try the ice cream and see if that's the food to come back for! Happy eating Yelpers! read more

Very small town near fort Robinson, good food and service, I try and stop there every time I go through the area. Well worth stopping for...

What a great little place. We stopped here on a whim for lunch on our way back to CO from South Dakota with two large families. The service was quick, friendly and accurate. Food was enjoyed by everyone. I personally had the broasted chicken and enjoyed the whole two piece box with fries. My twins gobbled up their corn dogs and asked for seconds. Other items enjoyed were hamburgers, chicken tenders, and gizzards. Everyone enjoyed their flurries and slushes. Would stop again if our road trips take us by in the future. read more

This is really the epitome of the one-numerous, now-vanishing small town drive-in. The food is prepared quickly and expertly, and the soft serve has the creamy texture that bespeaks a dispensing machine that is cleaned often. I had a really good burger - hand-formed Patty, perfectly melted cheese - that really reminds me of the In-N-Out I left behind in California. If you are on your way to visit historic Fort Robinson, you should definitely stop here. read more

I've got relatives in Crawford, so have been visiting town on average about once a year. Some of the most popular spots have closed over time, but Staab's is still there. This is a family-run joint with a lot of love for what they do, and it shines through in the service and the food. The food is the typical roadside menu. But it's done well. Places to get food are few and far between in the northwestern corner of Nebraska, so I was relieved to see a couple of eateries listed on Google Maps on my route from Agate Fossil Beds National Historic Site toward Hot Springs, SD. Better yet, the two places had decent reviews. Staab's Drive Inn, which fronts US-20, is a food counter that offers burgers, broasted chicken, ice cream, and the like. Although the place looks like a throwback to the middle of the previous century, they accept credit cards. My husband had a burger, which he said was good, if small. I had the 2-piece (wing + breast) broasted chicken basket. The cashier warned that the chicken was hot; it was so hot, in fact, that after my husband finished his burger, we packed up and I ate in the car. There is a roofed picnic area at the back of the parking lot that holds 4 picnic tables. The flies were pretty fierce in early July, so lingering/waiting for food to cool wasn't practical. The broasted chicken was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside, and still pretty darned hot after 10 minutes in an air-conditioned car. I waited for my watermelon slushy to mostly melt before drinking it--it was good, not great--my husband made the mistake of drinking his right away, and ended up with a mound of ice, like a snow cone with insufficient syrup. Whenever we head to South Dakota, we stop at Staab's Drive-In in Crawford, NE on the way. It's just off the highway, and it never disappoints when it comes to flavor. Most recently we stopped on our way to the Volksmarch @ Crazy Horse, and ordered two cheeseburgers, fries, and a chocolate shake. The cheeseburgers came with TWO patties apiece and ample cheese -- highly satisfying for famished roadtrippers. You can tell the ingredients are high quality (exactly what you'd expect in the Midwest). The fries, to be honest, aren't anything special. Ours were a bit overcooked. The shake was knock-your-socks-off good, and made with real ice cream. Our only complaint: we were told it would take 10 minutes for our food to be ready, when it actually took 30 minutes. I understand that it takes some time to make good food; I only wish they'd have been a bit more realistic in quoting us a time. read more

Which is a meal that you can not pass on. Or if you are just looking for a great burger this is your place too. Plus most of the frozen sweets that you can think of which are great also.
