***BE AWARE*** Today, I drove about an hour to the CSL Plasma center in Fairfield, CA, to donate plasma and was turned away immediately because I have viable veins in only one arm. I am an experienced returning donor and familiar with the donation process. The manager told me that this location recently created a rule requiring both arms to be available for plasma collection. Staff said this rule applies only here, BUT it isn't written or disclosed in the donor eligibility information anywhere. I am not aware of any clearly published FDA requirement stating that plasma donors must have two usable arms, which makes this situation even more confusing. FDA materials describe donor eligibility and collection requirements for source plasma, but I did not find a clear federal rule phrased that way. I'm writing this based on my personal experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]2 days in a row I came to donate both days I drank a total of 120fl oz water 1st day plain water I was told come back tomorrow and add IV liquid to water I did as told.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Both days 2 phlebotomist tried finding my vein 1st day no one found my veins by touch, 2nd day 1 found the vein but she said your not like normal people that veins pop your seem to disappear she called for a second opinion same thing then she called the nurse the nurse vaguely touched my arms and said sorry come back another day we can't do it. It's like they are afraid or maybe don't know how to work with people with small veins. I was happy to donate sadly phlebotomist are not trained to find small veins only veins that are pronounced. Today I drove 30 miles to donate and I was deferred due to very minor bruising, caused by the previous person who helped me when Aizhan and Aubrielle were not there. They seem to have a lot of people with a low level of experience working there and they allow them to essentially practice inserting needles on you. Aubrielle and Aizhan both know exactly how to touch, treat and assess people for issues prior to even getting started. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I am mentioning them because they made it worth my time. I would recommend this place to everybody, but due to my own experience I'm giving a 1 star. On my 6th donation visit an inexperienced phlebotomist inserted the needle wrong, entirely missing the vein, which caused a slight bruise to form on my arm (not to mention when they went to use my other arm another employee made a mistake that ended up in a sizable amount of my blood squirting onto the ground). When I went back 3 days later to donate I was denied because of the bruise that they caused. Also had to wait an hour outside the nurses office as well. They have trainees on site that missed my vein causing me to bruise and I couldn't donate. Sent me away multiple times because of said bruise even when it was gone. Let my friend with a bruise donate though. When I did donate the app said I donated but I never received my $100. This place is not operated well AT ALL!!! I went to donate on Tuesday and the moment I get on the machine not even a minute in the machine breaks on me. They have people with no experience setting up the machines and that's a MAJOR reason why people are not having their blood return to them. So because of this the person that's donating receives a RBC loss due to the lack and negligence of staff. Why isn't anyone checking and ensuring the machine is working properly before hooking a donor on it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Then instead of tending to me correctly they send me to wait in the waiting area for 15 mins and never communicated anything else.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So here I am driving here on Thursday mind you I come from out of town and I'm pulled in the nurse office and told I'm deferred until the end of January because they couldn't determine how much blood I lossed so they automatically marked it for 200 when I know in fact I didn't lose no where near that. It's just pure laziness and lack of care. I started donating last week for first time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Loved the welcoming crew up at the reception.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was first put off by the fact that it took 1.5 hours, in total but the nice manager reassured me that future visits would be shorter in time, and he was correct. When i returned to donate again, the process was quick. If your going to donate eat and drink. Be well hydrated. I have to tell you this place is kept very clean, staff are nice, respectful, and well trained.
