I'm glad to see this option for those in the community who are not necessarily students to be able to take fitness classes @ The Beach. Some of the classes look more geared toward faculty and staff and are offered during lunch hours, but some of them are open to the community and are in the evenings. The fitness classes include golf, rowbics, walking, belly dancing, hatha yoga, pilates, capoeira, stretching, water aerobics, and cross training. I've been taking the hatha yoga class, which at $40 for 6 weeks is a total bargain as far as yoga classes go - I highly recommend it. My only complaint is the schedule is related to the school's semester schedule, so there's been a big gap between the end of the spring schedule and the beginning of the summer schedule. I haven't really looked too closely at the other classes but from the flyer they are all very reasonably priced. Worth a look if you're on or near the CSULB campus. I've been focusing on the fitness & wellness classes, but CSULB Club Sports & Recreation also includes all of CSULB's competitive and noncompetitive sports clubs, which are many, as well as CSULB's recreation facilities, including the pool, track & fields, tennis courts, etc. In all my years of living in Long Beach on top of attending CSULB I never knew that the CSULB pool had open swim for the public for limited hours, for only $1! The racquetball courts are free and don't require reservations. CSULB Club Sports & Recreation also has Academic Enrichment Camps for kids during the summer. All in all, it's a very cool program.

Well, I'm only a freshman but it's AMAZING inside. 2 levels of exercising equipment, an indoor track upstairs, 2-3 racquetball rooms and rock climbing down stairs and not to mention the beautiful pool area outside! Oh yes, the sandy volley ball court also. They have cardio machines with a TV hooked onto individual ones! How cool's that? There are tons of lockers outside of locker rooms and inside. Their electronic lockers so you can make a pin and use it again to open it again. If you're unlucky, you get one that doesn't work like I did :( But the staff are more than happy to help you solve the problem, although I did it while only using a towel to cover myself. -___- But they end up putting an "Out of Order" sign on it. I usually go in the morning so it's not very crowded. However, passing by it during the afternoon and looking through the glass windows they have , ^____^, most of the machines are being used. Classes are available also, free and cheap ones. They range from yoga to zumba classes! Staff is also friendly. Ugh I'm tired from the gym..

Came through mid-week around 6p-ish and boy: parking is a complete challenge! It made me wonder why it was so crowded on a random weekday and then saw the after-school program sign. That might have been it. Found a spot in no time and walked to the tennis/pickleball area. It's kinda cool they converted tennis courts to pickleball courts. At least it's being used: the two tennis courts were left empty. Got a couple of warm up drills and a game in, and that was fun. (Didn't get the chance to take pictures: I got thrown in drills soon as I arrived!) Will most likely return if there are any more pickleball practice runs!

The city of Long Beach does a really wonderful job at taking care of its seniors through this park…read more They have activities for them almost everyday at the hall that include bingo, Zumba classes, karaoke, tai chi and many others. Sometimes, the seniors even get fed for free and go on field trips. (Space is limited for field trips so, sign up early.) I love seeing the little leaguers play at the baseball field and hearing their families cheer them on. I forgot to mention that Silverado Park just installed a new playground with rubberized playground surfacing. I would suggest leaving this park before the sun goes down. The park is unfortunately known for being dangerous at night.

I love this pool because it's in my neighborhood and my family doesn't have a personal one at home…read more However, the staff can at times seem passive aggressive and are really strict with the rules, a couple years back this seemed to be a larger issue when my son took swim lessons and there was one grouch on duty at all times during the free swims, she would be better suited as a boot camp instructor than a lifeguard....but this problem seems to have subsided this year and I haven't seen her since. The older lady at the front can seem a bit uptight if you haven't been here before, but I think that's just her personality and I don't think she means it in a harmful way. The pool is nice but there are limitations and swim tests so it's not like a fully free swim (as expected from a public pool) and the floor can get slimy and gross in the front of the pool where there is no test required to enter. I hope they fix the slimy floor because that is a build up of algae and a slipping risk...but all in all it's a really good place to know about so you can stop by when there's nothing to do or it's a bit hot.

This is the greatest swim group ever! We have members of all ages and abilities. Some of us…read moreregularly compete in USMS swimming meets, some of us are social swimmers. We have lots of workouts and lots of fun. We have respect for all individuals no matter what their background or ability. We have a number of social events and we regularly travel to swim meets together. I have met many individuals who will be lifelong friends. I chose this team over all the other masters teams in the area 8 years ago and my decision has been validated many times over.
