I used to love swimming here, but I pay to swim laps for one hour, and the Latino Supervisor plays Bad Bunny Spanish music and says, "He plays it to upset all the old people (including me)". I informed him that "I was going to contact the City Council Member". He said, "So what, he's Mexican too". Now I swim at the YMCA in Lakewood only. It's really sad, I live in Long Beach and can't swim laps there because the music caters to Hispanics only. If you had a meeting in their conference room with all the other swimmers, you'd be surprised that I am not alone in this matter. There are a lot of White Americans, African Americans, and only a few Latino swimmers who swim from 6:00 - 7:00 a.m. This review is long overdue. Water is way too warm 85 and inside. No lanes dividers. I had a lady swimming all over the place. Smell heavy chlorine but that could be because pool is inside. Parking area on street does not look safe :( don't think I'll be back.. Belmont is so much nicer but.. so crowded.. If anybody knows a pool I can lap swim. Please let me know.. read more

Parent and me swim classes are great so far. It's not a formal lesson but really intended to make the child comfortable with the water and understand some of the basic commands like kick, paddle, blow bubbles, hold your breath and duck. I really like that they have some benches and tables near the pool so I can actually sit and watch the swim lessons, rather than have to stand on the sidelines the whole time. Class is about 30mins long, and they encourage swimming with little toys like pails, rubber duckys, swim noodles and the little paddle boards. My son is having a blast. $37 for 10 Saturday sessions. Can't beat it. This place has two pools with the largest going from 5ft to as deep as12ft. The smaller pool is about 3rd all around. They have 2 diving boards. Although there are several classes or groups learning at the pool as the same time, the groups are well separated enough that the toddler group doesn't really get affected by the bigger kids activities. Small facility but bigger isn't necessary better for this class. The changing room areas have plenty of lockers, separate toilet and separate shower areas. Overall it's kept pretty clean, just need people to pick up after themselves for the most part. The changing rooms are locked, so you have to wait to be buzzed in, but there's typically someone always upfront. The staff are young, but very nice. Never get or seen any of the teenage rude attitudes. However, the lobby window to speak to someone is so low that you have to bend over to talk to the staff, who are also bending down. Parking is okay with some right up front and around the side by the park. The area is sketchy, so we try to park as close to the front as possible. And although the lobby area isn't the biggest, a couple of chairs or even a bench would be nice for people to sit on, while waiting for people to come out of the locker rooms. read more

I was invited to join for a 5th birthday party and as hot as summer has been I was really looking forward to a dip, I was even more excited when I arrived and realized it was an indoor pool, not only that but the entire pool was reserved just for the party. With that being said it's not an Olympic size pool but they do have the deep end with 2 diving boards that leads to the swallower end of the pool and entirely pool alone for the little ones. Not only was it a great idea to host a party, they allow to have a dj which they provide you speakers for the music they also provide you tables for your food that you can bring in, tables and chairs for your guest and since you know everyone at the party (most of the time) those whom did not come in bathing suits, where allowed in with as close to a bathing suit that they had. Since it rented out for a private party it is closed off to the public after it's regular business hours which close at 3pm and party hours are from 4-8pm. Plenty of time to get all your splash swimming diving in. My son had a great time, I enjoyed swimming laps and my husband just had to do a canon ball off the high dive. read more

We absolutely love the teacher (the one with the tattoos)! He's good with kids, the kids warm up to him fast & he spends equal time with each child. Our son loves the water but he was scared of the pool at first and quickly learned to start kicking his feet and jumping in the water! Complete trust! He loves showing the teacher what he can do! Lol! Too cute! Next week is his last lesson of the month but we can't wait to continue when we get back from vacation or after the holidays. The only thing I don't like is the changing room...it is small and one of the showers in female shower area is broken so people stand around waiting to rinse off. Oh well...good thing I brought a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle bathrobe for my 2 yr old to wear after getting out of the pool! Lol! Other than that, we love that the pool is indoors and pretty warm. read more

This neighborhood delight is tucked just north of PCH close to DTLB. The restricted hours are the biggest detraction, so once you get over that, the pool offers many delights. It's indoors - no potential weather hazards, nor sunscreen concerns. The temperature is always nice. They have both high and low dives. The separate kiddie pool seems welcoming. My visits are usually during lap swim. Interrstingly, the clientele changes based on the time one chooses to swim. I very much enjoy knowing people from all walks of life benefit from this public pool. Swimming is a life skill. It's fascinating more public pools aren't around the Southland. As a goal of mine to get back into shape this summer, I returned to a pool I frequent when I was younger. King Pool offers lap swim various hours throughout the week. Check the hours online for exact hours. http://fbs.advantageinc.com/longbeachrecreation/summer2015/#38/z (for summer 2015 hours) I went on a Tuesday for the two hour lap session for $3 ($2 for 50 y/o and older or under 18). There were a good amount of people swimming, mostly the older crowd. The pool offers 8 lanes so if you might get your own lane if you're lucky. What I like about this place is that it's clean, the lifeguards play music while you swim, and it has a parking lot right out front. The pool is located near LBCC PCH campus and it is not in the safest neighborhood so I do appreciate that there's a private parking lot right in front. They also offer water exercise classes and it's free for people 50 or older so if you have parents or grandparents that are looking to get some exercise in, come check it out! read more

The place is very clean. The facility overall is kept very clean as well the lifeguards on duty are absolutely nice and attentive with everyone. I come here three times a week for lap swimming and exercise. This place it's not only indoors but the temperature and the water is perfect there is a deepside and shallow side for the people that can't swim. It's $3 for adults and $1 for children overall I love this face it's close to home and very affordable. For those over 50 I believe they have a free exercise program.. read more

My kids loved the free swim there were a lot of lifeguards so that was nice my kids were free to get in and I was $3 so super cheap it was also clean that was a plus and there was not a lot of people we went at the 6:30 time on Tuesday we will be back again this summer read more

We have had both our boys in the city run swim classes for nearly two years. The facilities are always clean. The instructors are great with the kids. 10 lessons for $40......can't beat that. This is an excellent swimming pool--the pool itself, but the facilities (the women's locker/changing rooms and showers to be specific) are filthy beyond belief. I doubt seriously if the floors are rinsed nightly; and as for cleaning (soap, water, scrubbing), the filth along the edges of the walls and floors in the locker room, as well as the untouchable tiles and grout in the showers, will attest to the lack thereof for eons. I truly believe those rooms to be dangerous health hazards. To all those who frequent this lovely pool, please be warned: wear some kind of water-shoe on your feet whenever walking on those floors. If one can get athlete's foot on cleaned tiles, who knows what you might get walking on the filthy tiled floors at the King Park Swimming Pool. read more

Different sections and you have to have armbands saying where you are allowed. Weird, but might be ok IF they explained the rules ahead of time instead of just yelling at you when you are in the "wrong" place. Half of the pool was empty and the other half very crowded because of this division. Staff being bossy and unfriendly to a small child, without having explained how things worked. we complied once we knew what was up, didn't need to be scolded. Won't be going back. read more

I have been taking my kids to this pool almost everyday. We love coming here. Great enjoyable workout plus the water feels delicious on the skin. During summertime there is no fee for minors. The lifeguards are very attentive with everyone. I would had given this pool 5 stars if it wasn't because the kiddie pool is only open, if the big pool is crowded. A piece of advice try to get here before 1 since there are a lot of summer programs which they take kids to the pool and it gets crowded and they would not let you go in until there is a spot. read more

This is a great place for keeping fit year round, especially for Seniors. The park has a shallow water exercise class that meets Tue, Th, and Fri. @ 8a that is invigorating, fun, diverse, and FREE for Seniors 50+. Well I don't usually write negative reviews, I'm all positive vives but I this case I will. The pool is always very crowded but that's not the bad thing here. What it dissatisfied me was how dirty the pools are, looks like there is almost no maintenance. All around the big pool is all green and slimy and the floors in the shower have mold all over ew.... so I never took my kids back because I was afraid they would get something on their feet. the water is keep a little warm that is a + but they definatelly need to clean that place please! read more

Today I had a bad experience at the recreational pool. I was swimming in the deep end using the exercise dumbbells which I found out is against the rules. I didn't know this until the lifeguard on duty told me, so then I swam to the side of the pool to get the dumbbells out of the water. I did as she said and then she was still upset at me and watching. She was waving her arms in a side to side gesture and yelled what are you doing not once but twice at me. I was surprised like why is she talking to me like that? Those aggressive physical gestures and the sharp tone of her voice made me wonder if she was going to come in the water and get me? I was treading water thinking what am I doing wrong now? There was no one else around me in the deep end that I was blocking and I wasn't in the way of the diving boards. So I don't know if she was having a rough day or just wanted to make an example out of me to the rest of the swimmers who were watching. Usually the lifeguards are nice though especially in the front desk area. read more

Came here on Easter so not sure how pack this place usually is but there was about 7 other kids here without their parents but a life guard on duty. I understand they are doing their job but I get a negative vibe that they don't want to be here because how they answer you when you ask a simple question. You can't go to the deep end until you pass a test swimming to the end and back, my niece could only make it the the end and back halfway because she got tired. So she got stuck with the non swimmers. It was $1 for the kids and $3 for me overall it wasn't bad but the workers attitudes could be a little more human like they're only kids you don't have to yell at them like they something wrong. I been here less than an hour and they switched life guard twice already and they all have the same attitude. Not sure if I'll be back maybe if it gets really hot. Until then I'm sitting on the tables watching my kids making sure they don't yell at them for nothing. read more

My kids have been taking lessons here since we first moved to Long Beach. You can't beat the price and low class size at some times during the year. It may not be the in the best neighborhood but we have never had a problem. The teachers are great too! read more

My 3yr. old son took lesson there and I was not very pleased. The pool itself, however, seems decent and life guards seem attentive. Unfortunately for them they get only 2 stars, due to one of the younger, Latino swim instructors they have there (looks about 19 yrs. old). His personality and social skills are zero to none. Does not know how to interact with young children and does not motivate them to do better. And not just with my 3 yr. old, but with all the children. He pulls them along while they hold on to the flotation device, meanwhile his attention is else where, all around the pool except for the child he is supposed to be helping. I am not alone in this thinking. Other parents agreed with me and we couldn't help but think that our money was wasted on these swimming lessons with this instructor in particular. I observed other instructors and they seem far more experienced and motivating than the guy our children were so unfortunate to get. I really hope they replace him or at least train him better on teaching toddlers. read more
