I also ordered their lunch special for the following day's lunch.... Smoked turkey with bacon, avocado, lettuce and tomato on their homemade sourdough bun. Poor customer service / Lack of products. Anytime I visit this business they are always out of something. They forget items in your order. They are overpriced. Placed an order for pick up a 11:15 AM. The order was placed an hour in advanced; they didn't have the order ready till almost 11:40 AM. We stopped for lunch at Cuba Bakery based on previous good reviews. Cuba Bakery is in its own building close to the Highway exit and is very easy to find. This business has many parts. I'm addition to the bakery, it has a coffee shop, and a local foods market. We bought some of the cinnamon rolls to take home. To order at the deli, you have to fill out a piece of paper to say exactly what you want on your sandwich or salad. It was what you would expect at a typical deli, mostly cheese and meat choices with some vegetable toppings. They don't offer any sort of specialty sandwich creations, which is something I personally hoped for. We ordered sandwiches, a salad, and the soup of the day, which was white chicken chili. All the ingredients tasted very fresh and were good. I enjoyed our visit, and it may be worth a re-visit for more pastries. But I'd probably try somewhere new for lunch. read more

I had an amazing sandwich Friday at Cuba Bakery and Deli. I don't normally eat processed meats, and especially not bologna (I was grossed out as a kid by my brother frying it and eating it with ketchup!), but I was very intrigued by the phrase "Sweet Lebanon" on the list of meats that I could choose from for my sandwich. I figured, why not, I've never seen this meat before, and who knows if I ever would again. Sweet Lebanon is bologna that is smoked and, yes, is sweet, just a bit. Just imagine if honey ham and salami had an all-beef baby! This was very thinly sliced on my sandwich, and I added smoked cheddar and jalapeño mustard to go with it on my honey-oat bread - totally delicious! I also picked up a loaf of excellent jalapeño cheddar bread and some big soft chewy molasses cookies with icing. They had many other cookie choices there, along with other breads and cinnamon rolls, and I imagine they were all wonderful. They also had lots of gluten-free goodies. Best of all, it's all made with natural and "real" ingredients! My favorite way to go! When you go in to order a sandwich, they give you a sheet of paper with all of your choices for breads, meats, cheeses and condiments. My sandwich was ready in less than five minutes even though it was lunchtime. Prices were very reasonable, so check them out if you are in the area! read more

I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon while out and about in Cuba, MO. They had a small selection of fresh breads and cookies. They had a lot of gluten free baking products. There was a freezer with some gluten free baked goods and some take home and bake pies. There was a very nice selection of jarred pickled items, none of which they made. Also there was a deli counter where you could have sandwiches made and lots of tables to sit and dine. I bought a package of molasses crinkle cookies and a jar of spicy chow chow. We stumbled across this little gem while passing by on Hwy 44. We were looking for a bakery to pick up something sweet to take to our out of town friends. This cute little bakery/deli faces the railroad tracks on one end of town. One side is packed with all sorts of baking items. The other is a deli for sandwiches and salads. We found a couple of bags of half-dozen cookies that were perfect, and delicious. Next time we'll come hungry and try the lunch. read more

UPDATE: The Cuba Bakery and Deli has moved from its previous location by the Railroad tracks to Highway P (Exit 208 off Hwy 44). They are now located across from the Midwest Truckstop and between the Super 8 Motel and Huddle House restaurant. Sandwiches on thickly sliced homemade bread, meats and cheeses right from the deli display case and dill pickles with a lot of crunch. What's not to like? I haven't found anything yet. This is a hidden gem in the city of Cuba, MO. Located along the railroad tracks in the middle of town it doesn't offer quaint views, but the food is amazing. Sometimes you just need a "Sammich" to hit the spot and the ones you can order here hit hard and fast in a very good way. You grab a ticket, fill out what bread/toppings/sides you want; hand the ticket to the lady behind the counter and, while you wait for your sandwich to be made, go off and pick a drink. There's fresh lemonade, a large variety of juices, coffee and tea. You can dine in or take it to go and you can also pick up sweet or savory snacks while you are there. The last time I ordered I had turkey (piled high), swiss, tomato on white bread as well as a bag of chips, a pickle and a coffee for less than $8.00. The bread was fresh, the turkey and cheese delicious and even the coffee was good. Try that at that other sandwich place.....well, I won't go there. Opening hours are 7 - 5:30 Tuesday through Friday, 7 - 3:00 on Saturdays and they are closed on Sundays and Mondays. read more

Sit on the veranda, enjoy your meal and get away from all of the chain / franchise stuff that's just a few blocks away. This may be our favorite little deli! We were desperate for a bite to eat and found the great reviews, so decided to give it a go. We were not disappointed! Upon arriving, there was a table with a sample of "tidbits" aka donut holes. What a delight. The ladies at the counter explained the order process...fill out an order slip and within moments you'll have an absolutely amazing sandwich. The bread is the softest bread imaginable; the meat is plentiful and stacked high and the fresh made dill pickle is fantastic. If you leave still hungry, it's not the fault of this place! Great quick lunch option for sandwiches. The place has an Amish theme, with Amish goods available. Tons of candies, dry soups, jams, etc. for sale. Sandwiches made to order. Since switching owners this bakery has went down hill. The wait to order is ridiculous. They ignore the customers. Order a coffee and it's not sweet. Instead of just adding more caramel she remade it and took forever. Next time we went we just got baked goods go to the register and the woman checking us out was too busy talking to another woman working on the other register about what was wrong with it to check us out! Rude! And the cookies were old. Not going back. read more

I love this place! We go there every weekend. I have no idea what they do to the deli meat & cheese but it taste different and delicious. My favorite cheese is the butter cheese. The baked goods are homemade and to die for. The kids say the best thing in the menu is the sandwiches. read more

This saddens me to leave this review. We were traveling to see some elderly friends that we provide grocery's. We have stopped in Cuba Bakery & Deli before. We were ready to enjoy a late lunch and shop several AMISH items for our Ways & Means Table to raise money for Shriner Children. We were informed that we were not having her, the server, to make us a sandwich. She was snippy & offered we could buy some bakery goods. This server was not friendly and lacked the sensibility to understand she was costing her manager money, and sales. We left without purchasing a single item. You never forget how someone treats you. Being kind is a gift this young person did not possess. The door was not locked to the Deli and it was 3:00 PM. We were customers, Hungary travelers that just wanted a sandwich. This place is wonderful. They have a ton of snacks and ingredients you can buy. They have fantastic cookies and their fresh salads and sandwiches are great for lunch.
