My husband and I visited Washington, MO, and on the strength of a recommendation from the mailman (always good!), we ate lunch at Joe's Bakery & Delicatessen. It was GREAT! Joe is the chef, and puts together some FABULOUS eats. We had the chicken artichoke spinach wrap and the Italian wrap, and they were both absolutely delectable! The flavors were perfectly paired in each of the wraps, and the portions were generous. We split a personal-size turtle cheesecake, and it was so yummy! And the prices are extremely reasonable, which made everything even better. The deli is air-conditioned, which was very welcome on such a hot day, as were the ice-cold drinks. The service was fast and friendly, thanks to Joe and Sam at the counter. The entire staff is welcoming and genuinely glad to serve you. We know there are a lot of dining choices in Washington, but we're very glad we ate at Joe's! We'll be back! read more

So after a workout at the ymca and having errands to run I needed a salad. Searched Yelp of course. Not too many pics of salads but gave this place a shot. Joe's had a great salad!! Actually quite a few in the menu. Italian was today's choice. DELISH!! Added on a cup of fantastic (probably not too low caloric) of the yummiest creamy chicken bacon gouda soup. Hubby had a pick two for lunch with a cup of chili and a sandwich. Wonderful as well. Now I love food. And I love Panera. But to get amazing fresh salads and soups from real people...hands down GREAT!! Not to mention some AHHMAZING looking pastries!! Our new go to spot. Best sandwiches in Washington! This was a great place to stop for lunch when my mom and I were shopping downtown recently. One of my favorite restaurants in town. I had the BLT and a side of Mac n cheese. My mom had the Rueben. Both were very tasty. Desserts are always good, but didn't get any on my most recent visit. The inside is cute, but a bit small. On a nice day, it's in a perfect location to get your food to go and enjoy it on the riverfront. They also do catering. read more

Cute place in an adorable town, I highly recommend stopping in for lunch. The simple turkey bacon wrap was a huge hit with my picky kids & the French dip was piled high and pretty good. The Fritz Favorite stole the show, however, as a tasty & unforgettable blend of flavors. For dessert we tried the German chocolate cake, key lime cheesecake & chocolate mousse pie/ tart. Love the food especially when they included a warm gingerbread muffin with the spinach salad. I have not found a meal that I didn't like. The dessert are all homemade and delicious! I am so glad I went with Joe's Bakery! I was looking for a birthday cake for a friend who doesn't like regular cake. He loves snickerdoodle, so I thought I would take a chance to see if I could special order some type of cookie cake. I called up Joe's, much earlier (hours) before their business hours - and to my surprise, they actually picked up! I asked about special ordering this cake and Joe himself told me he could make one up, no problem! I was expecting a flat, two layered cookie cake, but I was pleasantly surprised with a thick, 2 layered cake sized snickerdoodle cookies with beautifully decorated icing. My only regret is that I didn't take a picture of it! Needless to say, it made my friend's birthday. I can't thank Joe enough!! Highly recommend! read more

I was looking for a hamburger, an almost passed up Joe's. The owner said he only offered sandwiches and directed me to a hamburger joint. Luckily, I ended up at Joe's...best beef sandwich ever!!! Beef was cooked onsite; French bread was baked by Joe, and the au juice was yummy! Only $8.00 and half was all I could eat. I will be back, Joe! read more

Amazing selection of goodies at Joe's Bakery. My favorite as of today is the carrot cake...no nuts! Since when does anyone carry carrot cake w/o nuts? Nutless carrot cake is the bomb. The bomb. They also have gorgeous little apple and cherry pies, and cream puffs, and german chocolate cake and coconut cream cake...I could go on, but am making myself hungry. I wish Joe's was in St. Louis. I have to go along with everyone else here so far ... it does rate 5 stars. I met a friend here for lunch today. Of course I got on Yelp to see where to meet and this place popped up and sounded great. Never having been, it was a must try. I had the Fritz's favorite (pork loin, muenster cheese, red onions, pickles, stone ground mustard) and was very good, although for some reason I was thinking thicker cut and not shaved cut (it was probably in the description) and shaved meat is not my favorite choice. I also had the creamy chicken asparagus soup with asiago (best soup I've had in a long time - GET IT!) and potato salad (very good). And the dessert kept calling to me which I tried to resist but just couldn't, but I did get them to go so i can't say for sure how good they are (saving them for the next day or two to try) but they sure looked good. Fresh food, great service, quick and seemingly very popular while I was there. If you go to Washington, definitely try this place. read more

My first trip to Washington, Missouri and this was the first place that we stopped into. It came highly recommended from my sister-in-law who just moved, and I was excited to try it. The interior is adorable, they have an awesome huge old cash register that I stared at for a good long while. They have a lot of variety, and I found it hard to choose. I ended up getting the beef brisket sandwich, which was a great choice as it was amazing. The brisket was tender, moist, and perfect tasting. It came with au jus and was perfect to dip in. They fresh bake the bread next door and it is OH SO GOOD! My husband's turkey sandwich was also very good - one of the best ones we have tasted - but my sandwich just was amazing. I got a strawberry cheesecake to end with and my husband a chocolate chip cookie. They have a variety of rotating dessserts to choose from. While not the most amazing cheesecake, it was good. And my husband's cookie was a very good homemade one! This was my favorite place we ate while in town - sooo good! read more

We are staying in an RV park in Owensville, MO. About 35 miles & 1 hour away. We saw the ratings on YELP and had to try this place out. We love delis. Definitely was not disappointed. We walked in and was greeted right away. Very friendly people. I ordered the Ruben with corned beef on rye. Wife ordered pastrami on rye. Both were excellent. Their home made rye bread was to die for. Both meats were tender, juicy and very flavorful. The sandwiches were really large. May be next time we'll split one & take one home. Joe's is a small-town gem for lunch. Go there. That's all you need to know. But for the longer version... I love the turkey, bacon, ranch sandwich. Joe's bakes fresh bread, it's delicious, and the meat is high quality. No mediocre deli meat like you might find at... a place that rhymes with Wubsay. And in addition to that, it's a hearty sandwich, piled high with meat. It's kind of refreshing to know that people still make sandwiches like this. Salads are extremely fresh and great too. I've been going here for a few years. The Angelo (an Italian sandwich) is literally the best sandwich i've ever had from a deli/sandwich shop. Within The last eight months I've relocated to St. Louis where i have tried many sandwich shops comparable to Joe's including places on The Hill and Blues City Deli..... While those places were really good, Joes is on another level of legitness. The ingredients are awesome (I think their meats come from a local butcher shop who uses natural pork), and the bread is so fresh and delicious. Also, the desserts are ridiculous. read more
