This is truly an Asian Supermarket. There are products from different parts of Asia. Took one star because squash had gnats flying around it. I was trying to find a certain item and I tried asking a worker and the first thing he asked was if I spoke Spanish. I was surprised by the question and didn't get any help. This review is for the cafe side. I am a regular customer at this supermarket and at many occasions I order their duck. This time I saw a review of the pho and it is recommended to ask for ribs and oxtail which I did that. I just got back from Vietnam not too long ago and let me tell you this is hands down the best pho in San Antonio! The owner is so so friendly! He took me to the kitchen showing me how he cook the broth. We had a chat about Vietnam and the food and different style of pho between north and south. At the end of my meal he brought out snacks and insisted on me taking a hand full of them! I believe this pho is only offered on weekends and make sure to ask for the mix. Pros: - Pretty good selection for San Antonio. - Freshness varies relative to when you visit vs. when they got a shipment, but it can be decent! Cons: - Not fully stocked .. ever?? There's always gaps in the shelves from sold out products.. but there's probably a serviceable substitute available. Also prices aren't always clearly displayed - Asian grocery store smell (or maybe it's a pro if you're feeling nostalgic haha) This store leans Vietnamese and Chinese but, true to its name, it also carries a decent selection of other Asian products (like Japanese and Korean, I'm personally not as familiar with Thai so can't speak on that). It's great to have fresh Asian produce that's reasonably priced - i.e. $1.50-2.50 / lb for leafy greens. $2 for enoki mushrooms. There's also a strong seafood section with live fish. Location is super convenient off of I-35. Parking is easy. I come here once a month or so to restock my Asian groceries. read more

Do not purchase produce at Asia Supermarket. Two days ago, I purchased a Cherimoya fruit at this market (that I frequently shop at). Today, I went in to return/exchange what I discovered to be rotten fruit. There was dark matter on the bottom of the fruit, as shown in the video. The store manager refused to do the return/exchange, and I am left with the thought that customers are then expected to purchase bad fruit from them, with no recourse. Love this store, but do yourself a favor, and get your produce from somewhere else. read more

This is one of two preferred grocery stores I love going to here in San Antonio, neither near my home. I have been coming to this one since they opened their doors & barely had anything on the shelves, look at them now busting at the seems. I'm loving it for them! I love the options & selections of Asian food here. Not being a fan of traditional, umm... American food I prefer this grocery store because I can stick up on all of my grocery items. I have a lot of spices, & this store & the other, allow me to find what I need at not stupid prices. I love that I can go in & buy 15# of rice for $15. Or I can walk up & pick out fresh jack fruit, not just in the can, take it home & prepare it for a variety of meals from savory to sweet. I can find more fresh mushrooms here than I can at some "whole" big chain. Don't even start me on Kimchi! I love that I have options!!!! Back to the fruit for a moment, I can always come here & choose a new fruit to try out. I like trying new foods, which is another reason I shop here. The people are also helpful & willing to tell you how to prepare things. It's not as scary as you may think. Now, past the produce is the fish, then the meat & butcher - yeah! A butcher! Go pick out a fresh LIVE fish & have it prepped, or go choose your cut of meat of your choice - now I've noticed it's primarily beef, chicken & pork. (If you would like goat or lamb, you'll need to go to my other favorite place Alibaba. Worth it!) The meat is fresh & the prices are great. They have a great frozen food area for things you might light to try out, go take a look - from prepare yourself, to premade stuff. Go on. Get over there. Take your time, not only are the employees great, fellow customers are kind & helpful as well. It's open, clean & easy to get around. It's not loud & I'm not sure if music is playing, as I'm hearing impaired. So, I don't hear it. Lastly, they have a small restaurant off on the side of the store. Go! They have an amazing Sushi Chef there Wednesday through Sunday, if you catch him - order all you can. Lol his stuff is phenomenal! You can also get fresh roasted pork & duck. Let me tell you - that pork I start nomming as soon as I get in my car! The crack of the skin. Omg! Yes!!! But, they do close the restaurant around 2 or 3. So, be sure to get there beforehand. Prices have gone way up due to inflation, but it also seems like a little more than that. On a recent detour to Austin, I found the grocery stores there are considerably lower priced on the same exact items. Also usually a much quieter and less hectic feeling ambiance for those that care about that. One of the best in town? Great. That means I come here from necessity. That does not necessitate a five star review, however. Still, compared to other Asian markets near this location, they stay competitive and have the best fresh produce selection within a 20 minute radius probably. That is the main draw for me. Prices are often incorrectly labeled and customer service is limited any time you are there. I do like that they have a hot food section, some bulk purchase item selections, products from multiple Asian cultures, and even seasonal. Today they had mooncakes! Get them wild they're hot? Cold? Only once a year for The Mid-Autumn Festival, unless you want to lasso my very best friend Google into assisting with your purchase. As I have said in previous reviews, call me spoiled coming from California, but this is not the quality level I have come to expect. I would say excellent product inventory, great selection, good product quality, subpar price value, but negative shopping experience in regards to inaccurate pricing on the shelves coupled with unfindable customer service. Easily the best Asian supermarket in the San Antonio area. Good service, excellent produce section with East-Asian vegetables, mushrooms, and fresh rice products. Great fish and frozen section as well with plenty of choices in the areas of dumplings and dim sum. Not really a negative: There are some highly rated Vietnamese sandwich and Chinese take-out places on one side of the store...but they never seem to be open when I show up, LOL! I always come here- although the selection isn't the best- it's the best you have unless you drive to Austin- I went to buy sticky rice and noticed the was loose rice when the cashier checked me out but she said it was probably fine. When I made it home 30 min drive later and put the rice away in the package I noticed small scratches and bites on the holes. I went back thinking a fluke since I've never had a probable and noticed all the rice and mice droppings everywhere. I def hope they get this cleaned and corrected soon. read more

Groceries are good, especially the meat and produce department --- but the restaurant in back? When I went there earlier this week, they didn't have any pork or duck hanging in their barbecue display but when I went today, they did. I bought half a duck. In my ongoing search for all things Asian, I don't think I've found a more robust Asian supermarket than Asia Super Market (#1). Located just outside San Antonio in nearby Windcrest, it is probably the largest and most versatile Asian supermarket in the SA metropolitan area. It's large, clean, new'ish, plenty of parking, and more importantly loaded with lots of Asian goods. Whether it's produce, sauces, drinks, snacks, hot food, baked goods, etc. they really do have it all. The shopping carts may be a bit on the small side, but hey, no one's perfect. They also have a restaurant / eating area where there is pho and other Vietnamese dishes available. They rock a BBQ display of duck, chicken, and pork, which makes this a convenient option for a little food in addition to the shopping. The customer service is good. They're quick on the registers and aren't shy about helping people find what they want. Hands down probably the best Asian market in SAT. I usually get my groceries in H-Mart (Austin), but if I am busy this is my alternative option. For produce, they usually have bok boy, watercress, Chinese broccoli (gai lan), and bean sprouts. They also have pho, rice noodles, and a variety of udon/ramen. This is an excellent Asian grocer, and an excellent grocery store in general. The produce looks good and is priced competitively. The sauce, rice, and snack selections are extensive. You can even find some of the best butter ever (Bretel) hidden inside the aisles. Be sure to check out all the imported chip flavors to share with friends. Off the the left side of the store there's even a small counter service food service area with lunch specials and some good selection by the pound (one lb minimum) including duck. I had heard about this grocery store and had heard from my sister in law that they had reasonably-priced sushi. A neighbor was interested to check it out so we went today when I took the day off. Just from the outside, I could tell there were going to be many selections and also posted outside advertising the lunch specials. There was quite a variety in the produce section. Lots of live lobsters in the tanks. Some were so huge it would never fit in our pots to cook, maybe fit in an oven. I had never seen lobsters that big. Many fresh fish selections. I was so excited to see Magnolia ice creams and so many flavors available. I had grown up eating Magnolia ice cream. I didn't buy the ice cream this time but will definitely have to go back. I was so ecstatic to see misua birthday noodles. Now my husband and I can try to make the traditional birthday noodles. There was a bakery section too which is nice. I had never seen balut sold at any Asian grocery store in the U.S. Love the restaurant section of the store! There's duck prepared different ways, roast pork, char siu, nigiri sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls, smoothies and more. The lunch specials comes with a choice of steamed or fried rice and 2 sides (today, there were 2 veggie options, chicken wings, pork adobo and fish). All for $6.49! Really impressive for San Antonio! I ordered the sashimi mix of salmon, yellowtail and escolar for $9.50 and 4 unagi/eel nigiri sushi which came with 2 futomakis at $1.50 each. Delicious lunch that fed both my husband and myself. Asia Super Market is truly a godsend for when I can't find a niche ingredient for a dish and for finding seemingly "luxury" ingredients at other stores at a much lower price. From duck eggs to entire mountains of rice (the only correct quantity in which to buy it) this place has it all. What I am most impressed by is their collection of produce, while places like Central Market have recently been amping up their selections, they continue to pail in comparison in terms of variety when it comes to Asian cooking. I also love the great selection of fresh seafood- there is nothing quite like a scallop still in it's shell tied shut with a rubber band to let you know it's alive! Getting to the market is quite a trek for me, during which I pass several other speciality markets, but it is always worth it because I look forward to all the hidden gems I am sure to uncover each visit! read more

BEWARE of meats: I shop at this store all the time and always buy pre-sliced meats here. Today I bought a package of beef round eye. I picked the package that looked the most fresh, after coming home and thawing it in the fridge I noticed the bottom two layers looked older than the top layer (see photo), then, my husband mentioned that the safety tab was not on the plastic container. We then noticed that a newer sticker was placed on top of an old sticker (see photo) so in essence only the top layer is fresh, the bottom two layers were old and was packed August 3. The best kept sushi secret in San Antonio is here in this market! The food court here overall is a must try. They offer a variety of Vietnamese foods/specialities, from banh mi to broken rice to pho. The highlight for us is the sushi counter. The chef who works here is originally from Osaka and is an experienced sushi chef. While they do have a menu he can make whatever rolls you would like and also is able to make catering trays if you order ahead of time. Our favorite is the chirashi bowl. For $9.50 you get a variety of perfectly cut sashimi over perfectly seasoned sushi rice--this is definitely the best chirashi bowl in all of San Antonio hands down.
