I was treated to a platter of delicious pastries from this establishment including cannolis and cream puffs, my favorites. The crusts were nice and flaky, never doughy. I stopped by for the first time the other day, since I now work in the area. It was a Sunday, so they were closing a bit early, but the staff was extremely kind and friendly. They had a huge pastry selection (I'd imagine there are even more earlier in the day), and their menu was easy to navigate. I got a pumpkin iced coffee, a BLT, and an apple danish, and took it to go. All three were fantastic, and the danish seemed really fresh. My total was under $10, which was a great surprise (prices are listed, but aren't necessarily clear once you add things). I'd absolutely come here again. I wasn't there long, but it put me in a good mood being around friendly people. There seems to be a fair amount of seating, and the restrooms were clean. My only complaint would be that the takeout box was styrofoam, but hopefully they'll make a shift toward something more eco-friendly! I'd imagine cost is a factor for smaller places. read more

This bakery will sell you stale baked goods. We received 100 stale cupcakes and they did not care about it. They made up every excuse in the book as to why they could not be stale. My mom said she thinks they were frozen and then thawed the day of the baby shower. The frosting had a funny after taste as well. They said they sold hundreds of cupcakes that day and no one complained. Bad business and rude employees. Then instead of a $45 dollar refund. They gave us a gift card to the shitty bakery. Like we would ever go back. I told Jessica on the phone we would never get anything from them again. So she gives me a gift card. They can take that gift card and get some new product because this bakery has gone downhill. It hasn't been renovated since it opened. It's run down and it's starting to show in the lack of quality in their food. The staff is the worst. If you call there, good luck. They will probably hang up or act as if you are bothering them. Don't call to talk to the owner. He hides behind his employees and does not stand my their work. Do not and I repeat do not go to this establishment. You will be very disappointed. I've lived near this place for years but didn't start stopping in until recently. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food there. The cafe is quick and full of regulars, nice folks who chat us up about the place. Their half sandwich and soup lunch special was out of this world, WAY more food than I expected for $5. Very crowded and popular which is a good sign but not so fun if you aren't interested in waiting in a big pile of people for your order. Prices are a bit hefty for the bakery items. Great selection though. We had a tough time deciding. We ended up going with a breakfast bagel and two bakery items. The bagel was just so so. The egg didn't taste good at all and they did that annoying thing where they just put cheese on one side and overcook the second half of the bagel. Not a fan of that. The piece of apple strudel didn't remind me of a traditional strudel and wasn't that good. The apricot danish, however, was off the charts good. I'd go back and buy five of those and nothing else. My father in law ordered a cake for me from here a week in advance. When he went to pick the cake up at the time he told them he would be there the cake was not ready. They put the cake together as he sat there and waited. He had also brought in a picture of what he wanted the cake to look like which they did not do they made it the way they wanted to. I've only had the cake, which is delicious. Or more specifically, the frosting is the best I've had in quite a while. They do the vanilla butter cream just right. That's the most important part. After going to the Crown Bakery, and not being impressed, we drove across town to Culpeppers. Maybe because it was an off hour, and they were not busy, the servers were very attentive. I was not aware that they do not take your order at the table, but was quickly informed of it. I had a bowl of chicken/corn chowder. It was wonderful. It had a zing to it, and you could taste the peppers in it. My companions also had it, and they loved it too. I then had a chicken salad sandwich on a croissant. That was very good also. The chicken salad could have been chunkier, but it was very good, all the same. For dessert, I shared a tiramisu with one of my peeps, and it was awesome! I also had a cinnamon roll all to myself. Don't put in a drive through if you get pissed off that someone actually uses it. It took them 5 mins to even acknowledge I was there and to top things off, I asked for a very simple bagel with cream cheese and coffee. My coffee is cold and my bagel wasn't even cut. How am I suppose to put the cream cheese on the bagel? I clearly am using your drive through because I have somewhere to go and don't have enough time to sit down and have a meal. For my daughters first birthday, I bought 2 large sheet cakes. One was vanilla, the other chocolate for my guests. I had about 30-40 guests at this party. These cakes were COVERED in mold. My mother took a bite of her chocolate cake and said it tasted weird, we flipped both cakes over and they were both covered in mold spots. I was absolutely disgusted and enraged! The allergy rate of penicillin is HIGH and I had a large group over!!! I called Culpeppers Bakery & Cafe to address this issue. I was told that they were closing and they couldn't do anything about it- CLICK- Talk about fantastic customer service and compassion, right?!?!? I was absolutely astonished, never again!! They didn't care that they I PAID for 2 LARGE cakes that they SOLD to me, covered in MOLD. It was like they already knew about it and tried getting away with it anyway. Gross. If not for the service, I would give this place 5 stars. The food was very good, prices extremely reasonable and the bakery was phenomenal. The difficulty was with the disinterested and somewhat unpleasant service. We waited 40 minutes for 2 sandwiches and a burger, although I am told they usually deliver orders quickly. When I inquired about the delay, I was told that they were remaking one of the sandwiches as it had been dropped on the floor. When the food was finally delivered, not a word was spoken in apology for the delay. In fact, not a word was spoken at all--she placed the plates on the table and walked away. When we left, I could see the dropped sandwich still on the floor at the counter. Nobody cared enough to even pick it up. Second year, I watched some wildebeest counter clerk take my order right off the counter in front of me to give to the person she was waiting on. When you complain because this is the second year in a row that they have done this, the rude, irate, staff in this grimy, filthy place will verbally assault you in front of the crowded bakery, unable to be controlled by the bakery manager. OMG this place is amazing!!!! the food is great, but the pastries are even better i order a cake for my birthday every year from them i love it so much. the staff knows your name or at least your face if you go in a lot, like i do. I am sad to say i have not gone as of yet. I have a son that has a severe peanut allergy and was elated when I saw them on Chronicle. Finally, a place that get it, or so we thought. My husband called this past week to inquire about donuts. The girl whom answered the phone could not answer any questions about the donuts other than they do not fry in peanut oil. He then asked about the ingredients in the donuts, to which she replied "i don't know but it should be safe". To say we are disappointed is an understatement. "Should be safe" isn't "safe" enough when dealing with a life threatening allergy. I thought we were finally going to be able to take him for a treat he has been so looking forward to. :-( read more

So don't expect 5 star dining there are signs on every booth that say no table service. So yes, you have to do some work and order your food up front. And the drive thru is meant for those getting baked goods or had previously ordered or are just ordering coffee. They aren't a dunkin donuts. Call your order beforehand and they will be glad to give you your food thru the drive thru. It's not too difficult right? First off, the breakfast is good. That' why it get's a 3. I've been here quite a few time as it's convenient spot for meeting friends. Good amount of food, and fresh. I don't care for the home fries, seems they take the lazy way out, no flavor, and barely cooked. The bakery items are great! I just don't like how this place is run, especially at busy times, it's super inefficient, my debit card passed through 3 hands today, instead of waitstaff #1 just taking it, and finishing the cash out. You have to order at counter, while the waitstaff run around ignoring you, They all run over each other confused as to what they are doing. I literally stood there today contemplating in my head how (during the 45 min wait to cash out) that I should speak up and manage everything because it was such a shit show today. I've been going to Culpeppers on and off for about five years now and will never step foot in the place again!!! The food is reasonably priced and tastes good enough, however, the service recently has been horrible. I recently asked a "waitress" who I've seen there for years for more ketchup, and she literally rolled her eyes at me and said "In a minute." She continued to text on her Iphone, talk to other staff (she could be heard asking other staff members to buy her alcohol and "weed"), and flirt with the boys that were there. After five minutes, she returned with mustard. I asked for ketchup again (said please and smiled) and was again given the eye roll. At that point I asked to speak to a manager and was told "I am the manager." As a forty year old man, having a twenty something roll their eyes at me is disrespectful enough; her tone of voice when she spoke to me was beyond my limit. I will never go back and now my company, which had previously ordered all of our pastries/cakes, will no longer be patronizing this establishment. It's sad that this experience was horrible enough to make me not want to return, but there are plenty of options for both good food and bakery items in Worcester at establishments that still put customer service first. The owner should seriously evaluate his current staffing choices and see if they are helping or hindering his business. read more
