It is two stories big offering stairs and elevators. They have security on each art room/ theme area. I was able to observe many paintings that were diverse and unique. Some are antiques kept there for everyone to admire. They have clean restrooms available as well. Bring comfortable shoes because there is pretty to walk around. Staff were very nice and checking went smoothly as well. The sticker you are given can be used all day long to come back to the same Museum. Most museums open at 10AM but plenty of people arrive earlier. I took public transportation to get up there and that was easy.

The museum created an atmosphere of this exhibit with a deeply emotional connection and experience. Graciela Iturbide, arguably Latin America's best-known living photographer from Mexico. This exhibition surveys her most iconic photographs, primarily captured in Mexico, but also worldwide. Also, Dutch Paintings on loan from Boston Museum of Fine Arts. I came during the Great Exchange and it was free if you have membership with a participating museum. It's also free for San Diego residents on the third Tuesday of the month. Two things that surprised me: The first being half of upstairs was closed to prepare for new exhibits. Secondly, several Gallery Attendants behaved very strangely and were definitely not friendly or welcoming. There were two different exhibits where I was viewing the museum app on my phone and witnessed the attendants walking around in circles quickly. It was distracting and odd. I got the impression they didn't want me to linger but I ignored them and they finally stopped. I asked a question to another attendant and he seemed annoyed like I was disturbing him. The friendly women security guards were absolutely wonderful! Lastly, free parking was available for several hours as long as you previously registered with the city. I was gifted a 3-hour private training session with Julie (from my wife). I have been shooting with…read morea DSLR for over 3 years and would say going into the lesson, I am an above average photographer (as a hobby). My session was jam packed with valuable information that was tailored just to me. Before we actually met, Julie interviewed my wife and I for what type of instruction would be most helpful. She also sent me a brief survey to get an accurate representation of my skill level and desires for moving forward. Lastly, Julie assigned me a few tasks to do before we met to make my training time more useful. We met in old town, and spent quite a bit of time discussing and trying out various techniques. One of my weak points was how to use my built-in flash. I learned about camera settings I didn't know my camera had and learned invaluable flash techniques. If that was all we had covered, I would have left the training as a happy camper. I've already used what I learned about flash. She also spent time discussing how a professional photographer approaches a shot. Some of the techniques I know, some were new and together it was all very powerful and meaningful. We then had a practice session where I was to take as many different shots of a single subject (a park object, not a person) in a finite amount of time while she did the same on a different subject. We then swapped subjects and repeated the process and finished by comparing our photos and discussing them. It was very useful to see the different shots and techniques she used vs what I had done as well as learning how I could improve a few of my shots. The last focus of my lesson was on shooting people (my weakest part of photography). She did a great job describing how you would change the shot depending on the situation. She also discussed the importance of preparing and practicing for a shot before involving strangers, so that once you ask a person if you can take their picture, you're ready and they don't have to wait while you adjust your camera. I don't know what my wife paid for the session, but it was worth every penny. I had fun and I learned a whole lot of new stuff. Julie also followed up with a post-session email to help reinforce what I learned. I would sign up again with Julie in a heartbeat. And I bet her group lead photo tours are great as well, she was very knowledgeable about the historic sites around Old Town.

There is SO much to do here, and the park is absolutely stunning and very well maintained. When living downtown, I was here pretty much every weekend. I love walking through the park, running the trails, and bringing my dog. The dog park is huge and gives them plenty of room to run around, which is a major plus. You could easily spend hours just walking and exploring everything Balboa Park has to offer. Between the trails, architecture, museums, gardens, recreational areas, and incredible history, there is always something to see or do. Even after coming here so often, I still enjoy simply walking around and taking it all in. The history and architecture are really what make Balboa Park special. It's beautiful, full of character, and such an incredible part of San Diego. Whether you want to exercise, walk your dog, explore, have a picnic, visit a museum, or just enjoy being outside, this park has something for everyone. An easy 5/5 for me. Africa did not disappoint. I thought I was going to see the animals, but it was so much more than…read morethat. From the incredible places we stayed, to the incredible people we met, both working with passion, learning about their way of living, From the sun rises to the sunsets, to the stars, twinkling in the sky and learning about the constellations, Kim did an incredible job of planning it all out. I love the independence that my friend and I had as we traveled, and yet we're taking care of every step of the way. Kim, you rock, and it was a perfect holiday with so much to see and experience. At first when I went to Africa, I thought I want to see the animals and we saw the big 5+ so much more. And then I finally got in the groove of it, and didn't just see them, but witnessed them in their natural habitat. the places we stayed were absolutely incredible. Each one had its own experience.
