Nothing around but mountains. We had three young kids in the car and it was terrifying, as semi after semi hurtled past us. After calling 911 and being told we would probably need to wait a long time before anyone could get to us (and AAA telling us the same as well), suddenly JNO Towing pulled up and parked in front of us. They rescued us. While I was terrified and in shock, they both calmly and sweetly ushered us all into the 2nd seat of their truck, got our van secured on the tow, and offered to drive us all wherever we decided we wanted to go. As they drove all the way to Bakersfield and my husband and I tried to call rental car companies that would rent us a last-minute one-way rental (a tall order), they each got on their phones with car rental places in the area as well to inquire our behalf - without us even asking them to. When we were striking out with every company we talked to and it was becoming more obvious that we weren't going to successfully find a car rental that late in the afternoon, these incredibly generous men offered to drive us all the way home to the Bay Area. With young kids we ultimately decided we needed to get a little more space and seat restraints + boosters for such a long drive home, but we were so moved by their offer to do whatever they could to help in such a stressful and vulnerable situation, especially with three young children. They pulled over to a Costco, helped us retrieve a few things from the van, and stayed with us until our Uber arrived. Then they towed our van all the way back to our house in the Bay Area for us (arriving very late at night) and I think they may have even driven back home to LA that same night/into the early morning hours. They didn't act annoyed or put out even once. The entire ordeal, they kept expressing concern and care for us, clearly feeling bad for the situation we were in and offering help in ways we didn't even ask. They also offered their guidance about what to say when we took the van to Honda repair - how the transmission should be covered under warranty, etc. They went above and beyond in every single way, for a *very* good deal, all things considered (cheaper than AAA would have been!!). I will forever remember Omar and his associate (I regret that we didn't get his name!) because they saved our family, and reminded me that there really ARE good people in the world. Kind, good samaritans who remain calm under pressure and offer to help those in need. THANK YOU SO MUCH from the bottom of my heart!!!!

I contacted insurance immediately and the tracking information said I'd get help in about an hour and a half. Ten minutes later, I get a call from Ivan T. who stated that he was a part of roadside service and that he'd arrive in 10-15 minutes. What a blessing! He came through and jumpstarted my car in under a minute while truthfully answering questions I had about my car's battery. Sadly my car had to sit in the tow lot for a week/weekend while I was getting things sorted with the DMV and having my title shipped here. The shitty part, is that there are two categories of tow. "Sherriff" and "Private" posted outside the window. I thought my car fell under the category of "Sherif" tow that charged $52/day storage, so when the person at the window told me it was $1,280 (plus a 3% surcharge) to get my car back I genuinely almost threw up. My car was actually charged $90/day, and when I asked why it wasn't $52/day they condescendingly said "we don't work for free sweetie" then explained the "Sheriff" rate is only from the sheriffs office. Essentially, I left in tears because I was so in shock with the extreme pricing, walked two blocks to the lot, and did the walk of shame through it to find my car. 0/10 would recommend. These companies are thieves man.

When I called to retrieve it, I was told it had been taken to a lot 45 minutes away, which is completely unreasonable. When I arrived to pick up my car, I was shocked by the fees. They were not only outrageous, but felt like an outright scam. My car hadn't even been there for a full day, yet I was still charged a storage fee. How this is allowed is beyond me--it feels like they are intentionally exploiting people who have no choice but to pay. On top of that, the process itself is ridiculous. Being told to go pay in one place and then go somewhere else to retrieve my car is unnecessary, frustrating, and clearly designed to make the experience as inconvenient as possible. They should bring the car to the customer, not send people on a runaround after already taking their money. This company's practices are predatory, overpriced, and unacceptable. They are clearly taking advantage of people, and businesses like this should not be allowed to operate this way.
