Outstanding service! After attempting to donate my non-operational van with a couple of orgs for "Kids" and "Vets", things stalled when they found out that my vehicle location was located in the parking structure of my condo. Their assigned towing company notified me that their truck would not fit and would not help me push the van outside of the structure. Skip had a truck with an adjustable boom so it would my height limitations. Donnie, the driver assisted me in getting the van out of my parking stall w/o violating any of his insurance requirements and was able to hook it up to his tow truck and get it out out the garage. I would like to tell you about my experience with SKIP, DONNIE and WESTSIDE AUTO RECYCLING. Due to my Mother passing, I had to get her house ready to put on the market. My Mom had a non-operation truck and camper in her backyard that needed to be removed. I called several recycling / car buying / donation places in the L.A. / Santa Monica area. Most companies were rude, uninformed or simply didn't answer the phone. The people or robots I dealt with, asked a million questions, only to say days later they didn't accept campers. My opening statements to all was "I have a truck with a CAMPER". I was so frustrated by the unprofessionalism in this industry. Reluctantly I got back on internet and saw WESTSIDE AUTO RECYCLE. I read some great reviews so I decided to try one more company. Being the weekend, I expected to leave a message. Much to my surprise, a friendly gentleman named SKIP answered the phone and was eager to assist. Within one hour SKIP came to the house to see what needed to be removed. Not only was he nice and knowledgable, he was empathetic to my situation. SKIP said he would return days later, with a Tow Truck and Donnie the driver and attempt the removal. I live in Orange County and the drive to Santa Monica on weekends usually takes 2-3 hours. This meant I had to trust SKIP on his word he would return. Much to my surprise, I received a confirming phone call the day before our scheduled pick up. On the pick up date, DONNIE called in the morning and kept me updated. Upon arrival, SKIP & DONNIE of WESTSIDE AUTO RECYCLING were able to removed the truck and camper! I was elated with their OUTSTANDING service, promptness and reasonable pricing. I have been a business owner over 40 years and an R.N. for 38 years. I admit, I am a little jaded and do not hand out compliments easily nor do I do many reviews. I had a non-operational car in my apt parking garage. I got a notice from the landlord to get the car operational or move it - in two weeks. I tried to donate it, but it would require coordinating between several services and I was stressing because of the time constraint. I yelped other local tow companies and read some scary stories! I read the reviews on Westside Auto Recycling and how helpful Skip the owner was, and that's what I wanted: help! I called and got Skip, and, as I poured out my story, I think he could tell I was nearly crying trying to solve this. He was kind, told me he could help me, and that he would work with me every step of the way. He took the time to reassure me: who does that these days? Yes, I had the title ready. Yes, it would need a low tow truck since the parking garage height was low. Yes, the tires were flat. Skip told me his tech Donny (hope I spelled his name right) would call and take good care of me. Donny called me when he was on his way. He expertly extracted the vehicle even with other cars parked next to mine. The tires were too deflated for the road tow, so Skip came over right away and brought an air compressor thing and they inflated the tires for the drive to the junkyard. Two days ago I called Skip in a total panic --- my husband I are leaving next week for a year's travels and are renting out our condo to finance our bucket-list retirement dream. But there was one major obstacle that could prevent us from going -- the 25-year-old car that hasn't worked since 2009 that was in the garage parking space we needed to free up for our tenant. For years my husband had intended to clear up the error the DMV had made --- they had put the wrong car on non-operational status back in 2009 --- but he never got around to it. BIG MISTAKE!!! When he tried to donate the car to several charities last week, they couldn't take it. When he called our assemblyperson's office last week to help resolve the DMV issue, they said it could take weeks. Anxiety doesn't begin to explain how we were feeling as we faced the prospect of our dream trip disappearing before our eyes because of the clunker in our garage! Skip agreed to take the car, and today his tow-truck driver Donnie to extract it from the garage. When he arrived he had doubts that his truck would be able to clear the low ceiling while towing the car out, but he said he'd give it a try. He also promised that if that wasn't possible, he would somehow find a way to get the car out for us. All the while that he worked, he was calm, cheerful and reassuring. When he managed to tow it out after about forty-five minutes, I asked if I could give him a hug. Sometime the cavalry doesn't arrive on a horse, it rides in on a tow truck! So the first provider that I contacted was unreliable because they affirmed they could remove my vehicle from my parking space but after I spoke with their dispatcher they canceled my pickup because of the same reason they accepted the job in the first place. Rightfully frustrated I was looking for another company that would be able to recycle my car and I found this place. Skip was so responsive and quick to help alleviate the problem that I was helping I saw results right then and there. We've had a very old car sitting in our driveway since the start of the pandemic and finally got around to taking care of it this week. What may have been a confusing and frustrating process was made quick and easy by Skip and his team! They were able to come out the same day we called to take a look at our car and haul it away. Even though it was dead and had a very busted tire, they were able to move it out of our driveway with no problems. Skip was a great communicator and so kind - we loved working with him! He even helped us fill out some required paperwork with the DMV so we wouldn't have to worry about doing it ourselves. The entire process took under an hour, and we even came away with some delightful stories about LA back in the 80s. Such a good guy and really helped me out during an otherwise traumatic time. My Toyota Corolla hydroplaned on Sunset during the first rain of the season and ended up hitting the curb and rolling--with me inside it! It was completely totaled. After I crawled out of the broken window and was waiting on the side of the road for the police and ambulance to come, an unscrupulous tow truck came along and used its AAA logo on the side of its truck to get me to trust them without asking any questions in my dazed and shocked state. The tow truck hauled my car away to their lot after the police cleared it, making me pay cash and not giving me a receipt, handing me a business card I didn't realize until later didn't even have the guy's name on it. When I called up the next day to see what could be done about the car, the company tried to pretend I hadn't paid them and told me I now owed them for overnight storage! Then they wanted me to pay them to junk the car! Westside to the rescue! It was the first company I called after a google search, and as soon as he heard where my car was, he told me that tow company has a terrible reputation and will try to take advantage of me. He suggested I call AAA immediately to complain, and he offered to meet me over there in a couple of hours to get the car out of there. He showed up right on time and waited over half an hour with me for the shady tow truck guys to actually show up and open the yard to get my car out. They tried several more times along the way to tell me I owed them more money over the phone, but as soon as they got there and saw I had someone with me, they gave up and gave us the car. He hauled it out of there quick as can be, gave me time to clean out the last of my belongings, and paid me a fair $100 cash for what was really a completely totaled car without much left to salvage.
