    Playing in Burgess Falls

Had an awesome time! All the staff were great! Our guide John did an excellent job! We did not feel rush and had plenty of time to enjoy the fall!

We did the Burgess Falls trip and Cumberland Kayak was AMAZING! We started by kayaking down the river for about an hour and then a short 10 minute hike to the falls. The entire staff was super friendly. Tyler especially was attentive and knowledgeable. We had an epic experience and would do it again! Highly, highly recommend!

What a great experience! I will definitely rent from them again - and hope to try some of their other trips. My friends and I went kayaking at Long Hunter, and it was so easy and beautiful. The kayaks, paddles, and life jackets were clean and in great condition. We booked online and the staff was there to meet us, show us to parking right by the put in, and get us on the water. And the staff could not have been friendlier and more helpful. I called with questions and they were professional and answered everything quickly (even fixed my problem with a coupon code over the phone). And Jordan who met us was wonderful. He took pictures (including the one attached), explained everything clearly, and gave helpful instructions. I've never had someone explain good paddle technique before!

Our excursion got canceled last minute due to Sir Elton John's third farewell performance. We had the sunset excursion booked to enjoy the Nashville skyline. Kayak Company was restricted from accessing Cumberland Park to pick us up. Hoped we could have been accommodated by getting picked up a little further down stream like Cumberland River Greenway area, but it seemed there was more interest in finding a way to say no than a yes. Only option offered was to go the following morning or not at all. We enjoyed our morning excursion but we had to checkout of our hotel early for our final day in Nash. Maybe someone will post sunset photographs soon. Took some great morning photographs, you're welcome.

We are two locals who decided to book a reservation online for the Nashville Skyline Paddle after seeing the groups out. We rented a double kayak, which was nicer because we were able to talk as we paddled. The kayaks are "sit on top" and are spacious. If you bring belongings with or a phone, I recommend bringing a drawstring bag or belt bag that you are ok with getting wet. We stayed dry mostly the entire time because they help you launch and dock the kayaks. They have a very seamless process in place and they shuttle you back to your car.

Cumberland Kayak provided a great afternoon adventure! I did their Percy Priest Lake route. Everything was so easy! You can park right next to the kayak drop point and get right into the water. Our kayak guide was masked and everything felt really safe! He gave us a tutorial before pushing us off and gave some good recommendations of places to explore.

Super easy to book online- last minute kayak trip. Load in to load out took about 2 hours and the yak itself was about an hour. So much fun- beautiful view. The guys got the yaks ready for us and pulled us out of the water, and then shuttled us back to Shelby Park to our vehicles. You don't have to be any kind of expert to kayak this route, and the view is absolutely to die for. 10/10 recommend.

    Beautiful day for a paddle

It was easy in and out and we got to spend a magnificent day paddling the Cumberland River near the Nashville Skyline. The Kayaks are right on the water at the park under the walking bridge. We filled out the forms at the tent setup near the water, and that was a little tedious, because we did it on the clerk's phone. Seems that some kind of ipad or station would be better, so I'd advise doing it ahead of time to save a minor annoyance, however, it's pretty easy and we paid $35 per person for an hour. We got the life vests, paddles, and some minor instruction and away we went. I'd recommend a sunny and still day because any kind of wind could make it challenging. It's a really free, and fun feeling to be out there on your own and able to paddle where you want and as you wish. If you're not an experienced paddler, 1 hour is more than enough time to have fun without exhausting yourself. We got lucky and enjoyed a gorgeous day of exploring the river and the riverbanks. The staff was very helpful and friendly and got us checked in and into the water with ease.

What a great way to spend the late afternoon. We booked it the morning of and were able to get the 4pm tour. This worked out great since it was such a hot day and by 4pm there was a breeze and had cooled off a bit. Also it was not a crowded tour and was a total of only 4 of us. Julian was our guide and should be requested. He was super nice, attractive and friendly. While the 4 of us went to the restroom prior to our trip he started the van to cool it off. We took a less than 10 minute drive to an area I had never been to before. Julian explained how to use our paddles, creatures we might see along the way, the giving back program this company does and pointed out the landmarks we would pass and what to expect. He also let us know the best way to avoid being splashed by boaters. The waterways were busy since it was Labor Day. He also offers to keep our valuables in the van and to refill our water bottles before our trip. What a relaxing, enjoyable and peaceful time we had. We do wish that we had paddled slower since it seemed to end much quicker than we wanted it to. Again this was such an enjoyable, peaceful time that we never wanted it to end. The 4pm slot will not get you any award winning photos of the skyline since the sun was brutal but that's a minor thing. TIP:bring a water bottle with you! Public restrooms are available prior to leaving. Limited free parking available at the end of the Victory street. Put your cell phones in ziplock bag with a floater key fob in case it goes overboard. Absolutely would look into doing the other routes the next time I come back to town.

This was my first official visit to Nashville. I was visiting a friend, and stayed with her. However, a group of us wanted to check out some spots downtown. The 21c Museum (and hotel) is a must. I cannot speak to the accommodations, but we certainly fell in love with the contemporary art museum. It is a must-see, with 3 levels of inspiring and thought-provoking exhibits. They had everything from digital to canvas. I highly recommend making a stop here if you have an appreciation for good art. Even if you don't, guaranteed you will find something you like.

From the moment we arrived, the welcome was cold and hostile. The service? Absolutely unacceptable. A heavyset white woman with short hair -- who was clearly not happy to see people like us -- immediately started questioning our English. Mind you, we were communicating just fine. Still, she continued to belittle us, asking if we "even understood" what she was saying, in front of other customers. It didn't stop there. The owner, "Dave", came over while we were calmly sitting down and filling out the forms. He suddenly turned on my brother's wife, demanding that she speak English only, and his tone was aggressive and demeaning. That was the final straw. We ripped up the papers, stood up, and decided we were not going to spend a dime in a place that treats people this way. And just when we thought it was over -- Dave came outside and started taking pictures of our license plates, as if we had done something wrong. Apparently, walking away from their dirty little business upset him. To make things worse, we later found reviews saying they keep the $500 deposits from customers. This whole operation feels like a scam with a side of racism. Thanks for ruining our weekend, Cap'n Dave's. We will never come back -- and we'll make sure others know what you really are.

Foggy Bottoms is a super cute spot with tons of charm and very friendly staff. We arrived to check in (no reservation) at 10:30am and the staff gave us a very honest warning that water levels were SUPER low. They explained the pain points of canoeing in such low water levels very thoroughly, but despite the warnings, we decided to give a go and I'm so glad we did! Because of the staffs transparency, we knew what to expect and we were prepared to encounter a few spots along the way that gave us a little trouble. All in all, it wasn't bad at all! We spent 6 hours on this 3 hour ride making tons of stops along the way to float in the inter tubes we brought along with us. Had such a great time and can't wait to come back!

Once they get your boat into the water you make your way back and it's just such a gorgeous way to spend a summer or fall day! Pack a lunch and paddle away! Staff is kind. Fellow canoe-ers and kayak-ers are fun to talk to along the way. I think my only complaint would be that many large groups go and sometimes just sit in the middle of the river in a clump and it can be difficult to get around them. That however, is not Foggy Bottoms fault. If you are looking to get outside and do something active I highly recommend you use FB. They are convenient and a great way to spend your day. I wouldn't call myself an "outdoorsy" broad as I have been a professional heel clicker in the concrete jungle circuit. Bright lights, big city... holler at your Girl Scout. However, when a member of the Nashville Hiking Meetup reached out in the last few months to form a partnership with Yelp and was actively posting some pretty interesting events on our homepage calendar, I started to get the itch to enjoy the great outdoors while attempting to stay fit. How many calories was in my martini again? Sh*t. Back to the Smokey the Bear's hangouts... no, really. I can NOT express what a spectacular time I had last night for Nashville Hiking Meetup's hike at Radnor Lake. Can you believe that this was my first visit to the park? I wasn't joking when I told you that I am a little naive about things of this nature. I pulled into the parking lot at 6pm where I was immediately greeted by a friendly pack of NHM hikers that consisted of a diverse group of men and women. A hiking leader even supplied me with a bottle of water as I didn't have time to pick some up on my way there. We chatted for just a few minutes and cut to the chase by starting our way on the trail. These people do not mess around. I was feeling pretty good about myself when we made our first stop assuming that we were near the end, only to find out that we still have quite a bit to go. Every inch of my body was put to work as we marched through various terrains and hiked up steep slopes. So this is how Jane Fonda really achieved those Buns of Steel. I felt my adrenaline go into overdrive as I wanted to kick this trails arse. It felt fantastic to be part of a crew as we maneuvered our way through the woods. I nearly had sensory overload with all the beautiful sights of deer, other creatures, view of the sky and lake, but the natural scent of the park is simply comforting. I could feel stress levels come down as my mental high elevated. Hopefully my tush will follow in pursuit? Fast forward to 8pm when I flung my sweaty yet blissful self into my car seat. The group generally goes and grabs a bite and brews after but I wanted to relish in my quiet victory. I'm ready to do it all again next week! TIP. Be sure to check out their website for all the scheduled year round group hikes that even include an Urban Hike that circles through the East Nashville and Downtown areas! There are hikes for people at all levels of fitness, and plentiful social and volunteer events as well. I'm in a lot of meetup groups and I don't know another that is so well-organized or that has a calendar so chock-full of diverse events. My best advice for new members: some popular events "fill up" fast, but many, many people drop out at the last minute. Join the waiting list and be patient. Chances are very, very good that you'll get moved to a "yes" (but probably in the last 24 hours before the event). There are also tons of events that never have a waiting list at all. Also, on your first event, it may seem like everyone knows one another, but this is actually never true. There is a core group of regulars at pretty much every event, but you are never the only "new person". Tell the trip leader that you're new and don't know anyone. Chances are they will take special care of you.
